  1. I think that is highly unlikely. Should they decide to tax us foreigners and that is still not yet a given, we would not be required to file a tax return until early next year. (The Thai tax year being 1st Jan to 31st Dec) Therefor we cannot be denied an extension because we wouldn't have done anything wrong, at least not this year. Imagine the panic if they suddenly said 'No tax docs' no extension!'. More likely we would receive notification from Immigration (the obvious channel) that next year (2025) we would be required to prove that we are complying with the tax rules. Once again the community is getting themselves all stressed out before we have any solid information. How's about we just cool it a bit. That's a hint @Mike Lister
  2. I'll not remove him from my 'ignore user'. list just yet. Just in case.
  3. As far as I'm aware, nothing further has been announced and I think that most folks have now adopted a 'wait and see' attitude. Quite wisely IMO Regarding your specific query, ref pensions, this was mentioned at the time of the announcement in the Thai Enquirer, plus other publications. They reported, I quote: 'Also exempt will be those who have been taxed in a foreign country that has a standing Double Tax Agreement with Thailand'. I, along with many others are taking shelter (at least psychologically ) behind that sentence. Full article is here
  4. A Wise account cannot be registered in Thailand. As a UK citizen your account, like mine will be registered in London. As no money actually moves from your account in London to your Thai account, (remember money does not cross borders with Wise) the only way that the Thai RD would know whether you have transferred money is if you tell them and I'm sure you're not going to rush to do so anymore than I am.
  5. You just might be wrong there. I know this article pertains to France, but note the first paragraph: ‘Life certificates’ sent to UK pensioners living abroad, including in France, could be moved online. https://www.connexionfrance.com/article/French-news/Proof-of-life-certificates-may-go-online-for-UK-pensioners-in-France
  6. Yup they're completely gone from the shelves of all supermarkets in Sakon Nakhon. I've just ordered 2 boxes (200 bags) via Lazada.
  7. I received an email from one of my 3 pension providers recently. I was invited to download an app, enter the unique code that they provided and follow the instructions, Once I opened the app I answered a few basic questions regarding my contact details and then I was asked to provide a picture of a photo ID. (used my Thai D/L) I then had to take a short selfie video (presumably they wanted to see me blink) and they then compared the license photo with my selfie. I passed so they now know that I'm still alive and the follow up email confirmed this and said I'm good to go for another year. It was all done in about 20-30 minutes. Let's hope that other providers catch on and put an end to these bothersome life certificates. For the Luddites amongst us, they did provide the option to download a hard copy and do it old the fashioned way. As if!
  8. Not difficult at all. A large house and 2 A/C units will do that.
  9. Absolutely right. Airborne pollution knows no borders. Until there is an ASEAN wide holistic approach, nothing much will be achieved. Although in our region of Thailand there has been quite a lot of progress as far as agriculture is concerned. I've lived in the rural north east for 8 years now and the amount of field burning has been greatly reduced thanks to mechanization. Consequently we enjoy a fairly good standard of air quality. But we are just one small region and I sympathize with those who have to put up with this crappy air day after day. I might also point out that castigating the Prime Minister isn't going to achieve very much either.
  10. That is complete nonsense. As I've previously mentioned, I live in a village with 40 or more dogs roaming free. Not one of those dogs has ever been trained to 'behave correctly' within the community and yet there hasn't been a single incident where anyone has been harmed by a dog. And I've lived here now for 8 years, almost the lifespan of many dogs. Dogs behave badly when they're treated badly and every incident that I have read about on this forum has involved dogs that been mistreated, usually by caging them or chaining them, thus preventing them from following their natural instinct to interact with humans.
  11. So it's best left well alone isn't it. Left to their own devices and in a suitable environment, dogs will poop discreetly, therefor mankind has no need to worry about it. As I've already said we do not have a dog poop problem at all in our rural village. It's the modern environment that has screwed up the man/dog relationship.
  12. I have no idea where Robinson, Phuket is.
  13. And once he returned from his sabbatical in India, he was very quickly 'back in the saddle'. Watch this space.
  14. Especially as excrement deposited in the right place, as dogs will do if they have the freedom to, actually benefits the environment. Crap has been fertilizing the planet for millions of years.
  15. Yes, we had the same up in our village near Sakon Nakhon. Both my wife and I had persistent coughs for 2 or 3 weeks and she tells me several other family members were affected. We can't attribute this to bad as we generally enjoy quite good air quality around here. We never sought medical advise, just sucked a lot of Fisherman's Friends. Lozenges that is, before anyone starts.
