You'll find Nonthaburi very boring and ugly compared to Phuket. It's Bangkok without any of the attractions that make Bangkok great. Now if you were moving to lower Sukhumvit, that would be a different proposition...

Seriously, who comes to live in Thailand to watch TV, especially the TV from your home country? You come to Thailand to get away from all that, to escape the culture that obviously doesn't suit you if you choose to be an expat. Some people need to get out more...

Out of curiosity I looked up the prices of a few items both in Thailand and in the UK, expecting the Thai price to be significantly higher because of import taxes. I had two surprises: (1) every single item I looked up was available in both countries, (2) for many items Thailand was actually cheaper.
UK prices (in parentheses) converted to THB at an exchange rate of 54:
Klippan pouffe 2290 (2700 )
Stenklover quilt cover + pillowcases 990 (810)
Skanka set of pans 1590 (2430)
Bumerang clothes hangers 169 (297)
Slitbar bread knife 850 (1188)
Dombas wardrobe 3490 (4320)
Hemnes bedframe 1190 (8910)
Edit for format - table looked OK in preview.
Stenklover, Skanka and Slitbar... I'm pretty sure all of those are bars on the 3rd floor of Nana Plaza.

150,000 baht... That's 4,286 short-trip taxi fares at the minimum of 35 baht per fare, or one fare every single day for 11 years and 9 months. (Puts away calculator.) He's going to have to pick up a lot of extra fares to make up for the loss of this potential "windfall", but perhaps the good karma gained will make it all worthwhile! By the way, does anyone know if they are EVER going to increase the minimum fare from 35 baht? That is ridiculously cheap considering it sometimes seems you can travel about 1 mile before it goes up to 37 baht! I think 50 baht would be very reasonable and would give taxi drivers a better income.

Don't buy property in Thailand, only ever rent it. You'll be glad you did in the long term. You have the flexibility of being able to leave at any time and go elsewhere in the country, or leave the country if the relationship with your Thai partner ends, as is often the case, plus to be honest property is not a strong investment in Thailand. The property market here is structured such that rental rates are often quite low and in some cases you could rent a house/apartment for 15-30 years for less money than it would cost you to buy it. Renting is definitely the way to go!

Why use ATMs anyway? Just take your bank card and passport to any major bank and you don't even have to go inside the bank, just go to the money exchange window on the street, takes about 1 minute, the teller inserts your card in a machine and charges it for any amount you want (up to whatever is available in your account) and you sign a paper, depending on the card type you may or may not have to enter your PIN, then they hand you the cash. No fee whatsoever and no limit on the withdrawal amount. I have taken out up to 100,000 baht on several occasions.

This might seem like an obvious question, but if you have no money in the bank, why would you consider retiring? You're putting yourself in a very dangerous situation.

Completely different, at least in terms of perception by the locals.
If you shop in IKEA in Thailand people assume that you're wealthy, whereas in the West it is considered more an "entry" market in terms of obtaining furnitures...
Items on offer and shop layout is mostly identical.
Well hey, SIZZLER is considered an upmarket restaurant for wealthy people by Thais... You have to see some of them dress up in their Sunday best to go and eat there!

"Shanks". Lamb shanks maybe? Must be special request from the Farhang contingent.
A shank is a makeshift knife made inside prison, so they weren't strictly shanks because they were made outside of the prison. Not to be confused with a shawshank, which can be your redemption. Alternatively, could have been a typo for "skanks".

Next time, they might get idea of dropping a dozen fully loaded automatic weapons and hand grenades instead of yaba and phones to yabber on, and then they might actually be able to break out!!!

I need to go to Panthip and 2 banks in Silom and Rama 4....
What's the situation coming from Morchit with the 77 bus to Silom , past the Victory monument !!! and around Lumpini park !!! to Silom road and then to Rama 4 road a bit east of the boxing stadium ? Do the busses ride on Rama 4 past Lumpini ?
Is everything normal in Panthip plaza ?
Why on earth would you want come all the way from Mo Chit on a BUS? There's a BTS station in Mo Chit that will get you to Silom 5 times faster than a bus.

To the OP Chalongian: Bangkok is a LOT safer than Chalong. The crime level in Phuket in general is way higher, as it is in Pattaya.

Replace the word "women" with "men" everywhere in your post and it's still equally applicable. What exactly is a "professional Thai woman"? Is that a matter of authenticity, as opposed to an "amateur Thai woman" which would be a ladyboy?

I can point you in the direction of some ladies who are very well used and blow just like a trumpet, should cost you 1,000 or less. However, the ones I'm thinking of are not in Silom. Would soi 4 at Nana be too far out of the way for you?

Hey, you can't really call it "shooting raw footage" unless you get shot in the foot and then return immediately with a raw wound. I wonder if it hurt much, because his surname means "pain in the night" in German?

You're not allowed to run a business on Ebay selling out of Thailand unless you have a work permit, and no Thai company is going to give you a work permit for that, so selling on Ebay from Thailand is work reserved for Thais only. Your business is illegal and I suggest you shut it down before you get caught.

Ya, AV still has his British passport and that also make him a British subject.Have some important info for Tarrit.
Even the leader from this country is a foreigner, he has a Montenegro passport.
Send from my Mobile
Abhisit claims he doesn't and has never had a British passport, as does Korn. While I think it unlikely they never had them, given their long years of study there they would have been foolish not to apply, they are British citizens whether or not they have passports, until they have formally renounced citizenship, paid a chunky fee, and it has been approved by the Home Secretary. British citizens who don't want to apply for passports can also claim right of abode in the UK and (for another fat fee) obtain a certificate of entitlement in their foreign passports. This will also entitle them to visa free travel some other countries, including Gibraltar, and easier visas to others. I can believe that AV hasn't had a British passport since he became party leader but he may well have a CoE nestling in his Thai passport and can apply for a British passport at any time. His daughters are also British by descent. Thaksin's son was born American but apparently renounced US citizenship about the time his father transferred SHIN shares to him which would have caused complications due to the US policy of global taxation.
Abhisit is a Geordie. He was born in Wallsend. The true colour of his shirt is actually black and white, which explains well enough why his hatred of red shirts is instilled since birth. Buddha help the other side if he decides to enlist the Toon Army to do his dirty work. Fuelled by enough cans of Brown Ale, the coup will be over in less than a day, the first Thai coup orchestrated by the Toon Army and then a thousand-year reign of peace and political stability will spread across the land. All he needs to do is arrange free or cheap flights from NCL to BKK and that would be his strategic master stroke.

Just saw this list from large US news network of vacations spots with go or do not go recommendations.
Mexico, Brazil and St. Petersburg Russia made the "to go" list.
Only Thailand and Egypt made the don't go list. I think I would feel much safer in Thailand than either Mexico or Brazil at the present time.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure Thailand is safer than St. Petersburg too! Oddly enough (or perhaps not oddly, not sure if others would agree with me) even in these protest times I feel that Bangkok is a much safer city to live in than Pattaya or Patong Beach. Both of the latter have a very large low-life thug element, whereas the parts of Bangkok I hang out in are full of well-groomed middle-class Thais who couldn't be more non-threatening. Pattaya and Patong are both massive black holes that are attractors of riffraff both foreign and domestic. Bangkok, EVEN NOW, seems one of the safest cities I have ever lived in. The only two I can think of that seem even safer (to the point of being too boring) are Hong Kong and Singapore. Who agrees?

Who told you that H&M is "decent quality"? True, it's very cheap indeed, but it's worthless rubbish. Better to buy true quality items that about cost 3 times more to buy, but will look more stylish, with better materials and workmanship, and as a result will often more than 3 times longer, making them "cheaper" than H&M but with a bigger initial investment.
