The Army should be supporting elections not trying to stop them from happening. You the Army gave their support and did something we would have elections. However, is that is real goal?
Their real and stated goal is to prevent bloodshed. Which part of this apparently simple concept don't you understand?

If martial law can only be ended by a Royal Decree then would it be correct to say that it can only be enforced by royal endorsement too? Surely you can't have one without the other... even in Thailand.
The army has the authority to declare martial law under (I think its) section 188 of the constitution.

Don't think so. There are mainly expats on this forum and they are smart enough not to overreact to certain situations and news...me think.will this somehow have an impact on this forum?
We have no shortage of resident nut cases, however.

Coup in progress. Step 1: disperse the Reds, but not the PRDC. Step 2: Senate replaces govt illegally. Coup complete.
Cap, you forgot Step 3: Civil war begins
Today's declaration of coup step 1 is to announce to the Reds that they can forget positioning themselves at Rachaprasong this time to interfere with the transfer of power back to the ammart. I don't think the Reds believe they can fight the army itself.
Even Jatuporn said "its not a coup".
Why is it that never every post with the word "ammart" in it is written by a nut? There isn't going to be a civil war either, that's just crap.

I suspect the martial law has been imposed in reaction to Suthep upping the stakes. I guess hunting down government ministers is considered a step too far. I expect the General to come out in the next week and say that elections will take place under martial law which will prevent them being disrupted by the PDRC. Affectively, martial law is doing the job the police were prevented from doing by the General.
More likely a result of various threats to clean up the PDRC camp made on the red stage last night.

No problem with seeing this, but will they do the same with the PDRC anti-gov protesters?
It is reported on Australian news that they are doing exactly the same to the PDRC. The Military wants both sides to disperse.
The Riot Act has now been read.
Edit: And about bloody time too.

Okay, any list of real restrictions and limitations that are in effect on our everyday lives?
I guess you're accepting this and waiting for a list to bow-down to?

Where is the Royal Proclamation?
It's not an exclusive power. The army can also declare martial law in 'urgent cases' under section 188 of the constitution.

Another mature, calm, and collected statement by the PM, never allowing herself to be dragged down by the hate mongers.. why these pad/pdrc creeps hate her so much is beyond a reasonable persons comprehension.
You mean she didn't cry this time? Why do you bother posting this crap, you seriously expect anyone to believe it?
What PK is saying is true, but that hurts you doesn't it.
Wait one more month and after you see your worst nightmare come true, you can just go on hating Thailand and maybe yourself.
Cough cough

Suthep, bad monk, Jatuporn and all their hardcore lackeys should go home and take some rest and think about the damage done so far.
Now the Army should be rounding up everyone from both sides who have warrants against them. Suthep and his guards will be no match against the military.
Unless they are the military

You're a bit of a disgrace yourself, jackboots and goon squad and oh so tolerant. What a joke. Buddhist eh?
Do you really think this guy is not mad , he has a team of violent thugs who go out and seriously injure people, who try to kidnap people to bring them before him (German journalist) He admits himself that his people are violent. The guy is the devil reincarnated. How is that derogatory? He is a monk and he is mad, insane lunatic. Monks do not act this way.
I'm actually extremely surprised that you can continue to call Buddha Issara the Mad Monk! There seems to be so much hatred on here towards people who do not support/idolise and worship Suthep and the Mad Monk. There is almost a call for thier extermination from some.
For that is NOT his name but a derogatory term for him.

spot on.
i am Buddhist and I respect monks, especially the ones that live the Buddhas teachings... this fake monk however is pure evil.
spawn from the devil, and an absolute disgrace to buddhism. previously I thought Suthep was the worst of the worst, this evil fake monk with his posse of gun toting thugs takes the number one spot.

I thought all politicians took assault rifles with them for lunch, dinner and the like. To show of their expertise and knowledge of such. Look, this is how you check if it's unloaded ... ...
A few years back one accidentally hosed down an assistant or someone putting his uzi on a restaurant table. It was lunch time, if I recall correctly.

The stink of desperation is palpable.
Personally I don't give a flying <deleted> what pig is at the trough. But surely this whole tragic, sorry episode has got to end. Maybe K. Prayuth can put them all out of their misery.....start by telling all (both sides) of them to get off the streets.
Already has.

Let the fascist Suthep has his last hurrah before spend jail time. The caretaker government will not bow to him neither are the Reds. They keep re-cycling their allies and plans. Same old face Komsan, staunch Suthep lackey who called for general strike last November and not many responded and the attempt went flat. The Senate can do their song and dance but it will never get their interim PM as their act and speaker are illegal. This week will pass like any other week and by next week, Suthep will announce another Mother of all final push.
I've never seen any of the rich and/or famous go to jail in Thailand, no matter how badly they deserve it. Don't hold your breath.

It's about time they caught this third hand and shot it. Frigging menace to society.

If some of the accused are "abroad", some of the accused won't be coming back.

"If the EC refuses to hold the new election, the EC members will violate the laws and will face jail term," Chalerm said.
Have another drink Chalerm. Have another bottle.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.
It's also a bit rich to hear PDRC criminals on the loose complaining about police not arresting other criminals.
Had the police arrested certain other criminals, PDRC would never have happened.
