  1. I just got my 5 years license renewed in Chiang Mai. Car and motorbike, both expired more than 2 years. Here is my experience. Condition: Entered Thailand with non-imm visa in late July Applied renewal on 1/Aug Out of Thailand for 3 years due to COVID Licenses were expired more than 2 years Documents: Residence certificate (I paid an agent to do it through immigration, because I didn't have time. Embassy option was not possible due to the length I stayed here, too short to issue it). Passport Photocopy of passport Medical certificate expired license Printout of the QR code of the online course certificate Procedure: Took online course even before I arrive in Thailand. Walk in to the Chiang Mai hang dong branch, arrived at 8.00. There was already a long que. Entered the building at 8.15, queued again at the information on the second floor. However if you are sure with the document, probably you can skip this process. Go to counter 27 without any numbers assigned, just directly give the document at the counter As my license was expired over 1 year, exam at 10.00. 2 exams, one for car, one for motorbike. They register your fingerprint for verification. Pass the exam. Over 45/50. Go to counter 27. They gave me the number for other counters to pay. Number called, fee paid. Proceed to take pictures, and print the new license, good until 2028. It's renewed license, not new. So the date when I got the license first remains as 2014. The good thing is that in Chiang Mai you don't need booking and you can process it on the same day. I originally thought of doing it in Bangkok, but online booking was fully booked until September. I also contacted some agents in Pattaya, I didn't mind paying if it can be done quickly. However, they told me they need to book it when I arrive in Thailand, then from that point it could be a few days, or weeks to wait. They also said if it's expired over 2 years, it's complete new license, starting from 2 years temporary license again. I contacted 2 agents in Pattaya they sell these supporting services and both said the same thing. In the end, coming to chiang mai and doing it by myself was the fastest and also the best result.
  2. Just to update. I just renewed my car and motorbike license that were expired more than 2 years. The residence certificate from the immigration was enough, but I had to do the written exam. In chiang mai Hang Dong, no booking is required, walk-in, take test, renew.
  3. At Hang Dong - Do you need to make an appointment first, then actual renewal? Or can you walk in and done? I don't find Hang Dong branch to book online. I heard in Bangkok the appointment could be weeks later...
  4. Actually the one I could book online was Fang branch, not the one on Hang Dong... Is Hang Dong branch available for walk in and get appointment in a few days?
  5. This is a great news. I am in the same situation, mine expired in 2020, I am planning to go back to CM to do the renewal. I already booked a slot online in August. But can you just walk in there and appointment in 3 days? Can you get the residency certificate in CM in a few days with hotel stay? I won't have a proper rental contract this time. In Bangkok I heard it would 2 weeks to get residency certificate... I thought of paying to an agent to get it done, but maybe if it can be done with the hotel, I can give it a try by myself first.
  6. Hello! Anyone have experience renewing over 2 years expired license in Chiang Mai? I booked a slot online. But I am reading mixed information that over 1 year I have to start from scratch. I am thinking to do it in Chiang Mai.
  7. @norbra Did you have a luck with expired licence renewal?
  8. Mine has been expired over 2 years during covid. On DLT website it says below. So I assume I can "renew", just need to take theory test. However, I've also heard the theory / practical test booking to be made on the day of the appointment, so another week or month to wait... Mine is 5 years license. The first 2 years it was with CM address, but I moved to BKK, so the address on the expired one is BKK address. REMARK : 1 IN CASE OF DRIVING LICENCE EXPIRED MORE THAN 1 YEAR - TAKE A THEORY TEST 2 IN CASE OF DRIVING LICENCE EXPIRED MORE THAN 3 YEARS - TAKE A THEORY TEST AND PRACTICAL TEST
  9. Hello, I am in the same situation. On DLT website it says below. So I understand it is possible to Renew, you just need to take written and practical test depending on how long it's been expired. I have 5 years license, and I don't want to go back to 2 years by starting from scratch... I don't mind taking test. However, a company I am in contact told me that in this case it is treated as "new", so the booking will be one month later. I already booked renewal online. When booking it asked the expiry date, I said 2020. It let me book "renewal". Does anyone have this experience, in Chiang Mai or somewhere else? https://www.dlt.go.th/en/two-year-license/ REMARK : 1 IN CASE OF DRIVING LICENCE EXPIRED MORE THAN 1 YEAR - TAKE A THEORY TEST 2 IN CASE OF DRIVING LICENCE EXPIRED MORE THAN 3 YEARS - TAKE A THEORY TEST AND PRACTICAL TEST
  10. Thank you everyone. @Tracyb somehow I could not change my language anymore, probably because I registered myself as a foreigner. Who's the "license folks" there in chiang mai? I probably need help to get the residence certificate. I thought to do it through the embassy, but they told me that I can't do it right after I arrive in Thailand, I have to be there for a while to be a "resident". Last time I was in Thailand (with Non-imm visa) was before COVID, I don't have address there yet. I don't mind paying extra to someone to sort this out quickly for me in Chiang Mai, or even in Bangkok (I'm flying in to Bangkok about a week before the appointment date in CM).
  11. Hello. I just booked license renewal (car and motorbike) online in Chiang Mai. One of the requirements was below. I understand the first part (resident certificate, I plan to do it through embassy), but I am not sure about the second part. "Present Address Verification Document". What does it mean? Does anyone has clue? 3. CERTIFICATE OF PRESENT RESIDENT ADDRESS IN THAILAND ISSUED BY EMBASSY OR IMMIGRATION BUREAU, WITH PRESENT ADDRESS VERIFICATION DOCUMENT (ORIGINAL AND PHOTOCOPY) I will be flying in to Thailand, basically for renewing the driving license, and stay around for 2-3 months with ED-Visa. I want to do this renewal as the first thing in Thailand, so most likely I'll be at a short-term hotel stay. I'd find long term stays at some point, but at the point of license renewal, I don't have a proper rent. Does anyone know what I can do about this...? Thank you!
