  1. I think hard to find. BKK - Mahasarakhan - BKK ca. 1000 km. Pickup or Van consume ca. 10 l/km 100 liter at ca. 30 = 3000 THB for Diesel !!! Standard Pickup eg. Toyota Vigo ca. 1000 THB / day without driver !!! :(

uuups I was told 800 KM and hoped for LPG...

    :(

    Thx anyway!

  2. Hi,

I am looking for a reliable driver with a van or pick up who can drive me to Mahasarakhan early Sunday and back to Bangkok same day. I need to pick up a motorbike over there.

My budget is 2500 THB which is approx 1000 THB for LPG / Diesel plus 1500 THB fpr the driver, what I hope I a fair deal.

    Any idea or recommondation?

    Thx in advance,

    C

  3. What about a train from Khon Kaen? It'd be a lot cheaper. You can also 'post' a motorbike... though I don't know how this works (I've seen them for collection in Chiangmai PO with about B.1000 in stamps plastered on the seat.)

Thx for the input, I heard about a way to "mail" it from post office to post office for a cheap price too (no kiddin), but it will take about 3 days, I can not attend / support / control it and need to pick it up at Lak Si post office in BKK, which would be the least problem...

I stil prefer a private pick up or van with LPG and joining this trip and are willing to pay approx 2,000 THB (1000 for LPG and 1000+ for pocket money).

Anyone nothing better to do this Sunday early afternoon as going to Bangkok?

    ;)

  4. EVA air...I've taken them on this run for years. New 777s (and some old 747s) used on the route but the 747s are easy to avoid when you make your online or phone bookings. Really good economy fares and if you can swing a little more, their economy-deluxe class is almost like being in business. Business class, with its much larger seats, is very nice. The in-flight service is very friendly and professional but the food is only ordinary (and that's in business class...in economy you better bring a sandwich).

EVA Air Economy Deluxe rocks!!! It is really comfortable and once, because the plane was fully booked, I even got an upgrade to their first / business class which was awesome...

I salute EVA Air for sure.

  5. Hi,

I am thinking about buying a motorcycle in Mahasarakham on Saturday / Sunday and need a lift for me and my new bike back to BKK.

So, does anyone know somebody with a pick up or a van would drive "us" to BKK on Sunday for a fair price?

    Thx in advance,

    C

P.S.: It a is smaller vintage bike, which I do not want to waste the first day on 400 km thai streets!

  6. Wifey just said when they make the announcement for 18-23 year old men to register for 'selection' they ask that they boys have a Thai mum & a Thai dad...

My 5 yr old keeps informing me and his mum that he's going to be a soldier when he grows up but we're convinced he can't be.

    Sounds great, thx.

Well, and for your son, isn't this the age, where they all want to become a Fire Worker?

    LOL

I think you'll find this advice is erronious. If the boy has a Thai parent and lives in Thailand then there is no automatic exemption.

My sons lives in Thailand, is listed in the Tabien Baan and has a Thai ID too...

  8. If he was my son I would allow my son to be in the lottery to join the forces. It will be the best two years of his life it will teach many lessons & skills you could never teach him he may even just find his direction in life. He learns how to work with others & discipline and the importance of having it. I was in the forces as a boy volunteer turned out to be some of the best years of life & skills I still use in my work today. If you never had to do national service in Germany you may not fully understand, give the boy the option plus he will gain respect among his peers. Let alone the ladies nothing smarter than a guy in uniform.

Again, I do NOT want to discuss it at all, and I have my serious doubts, that he could learn anything needful serving in the Thai army at all.

  9. Hey,

I am posting here, becasue this is the most frequented forum.

My son just turned 18 and holds a German and a Thai passport. Although Germany just skipped the military duty for youngsters finally, here in Thailand with his Thai passport, he might get chosen.

I have heard of a lottery system where names are pulled by (un)lucky chance and those have to serve the Thai army. Is this true? And if so, is there a way out?

    Please advise.

    Cheers,

    Sven

P.S.: I do NOT want to discuss the sense or non sense of serving any army here, thx.

  10. No, its standard reporting and has been a requirement for a very long time but is now being enforced. Its similar to the reporting hotels must do when you check in.

OK, but what is the process here? Traveling abroad almost every 2 weeks means I have to renew this paper / arrival card copy?

    How? Where? When?

  11. Yeah, I used the WiFi at a coffee shop in BKK the other day but first had to let them make a copy of my passport and then I had to sign a form.

Sign o' the times I guess.

Huh, I was "talking" about my condo and this form related to it, like a registration form, but if the coffee shop WIFI story is true, it gets even worse.

  12. Hey,

I just found in my mailbox (old school hardcopy) a form to fill out named "Personal Information Form" from my Building Management Office saying, based on new regulations of the immigration department following the "Domestic Safety and Security Control"

Not only, that I have to fill out the form, the request a copy of my passport and the arrival card.

Anybody here know how serious this is and whether this need to be updated whenever I leave and return to Thailand from business trip?

  13. Bump

This is a manual wind, gold platted (micron) wristwatch with small second hand.

Basically the emotional value is much more than the actual, I would estimate this watch up to max. 400 EURO, but better check out wwwDOTebayDOTde and look for similar models from same brand TUDOR. TUDOR in fact is a brand owned by ROLEX but never made it super valueable, except the "look a like" Daytona models, esp. the 70th ones...

  14. Ah, the wonders of Thaivisa forum. Any drug story and all the mindless punishers jump in. Even a drug story that is so badly written that no reader can actually tell what the real story is.

    Some notes:

    1) Drugs should be decriminalised worldwide and their supply closely regulated.

    2) Scandasia should employ somebody who can actually write in English.

Sorry, but pls specify "drugs", do you include alcohol, nicotine and caffeine too here?

This would be half as fun as it is now...

    :(
