  1. I got a good quality handed made leather one from the Thepprasit Nightmarket there's a row of pet supply stalls to the back of where all the food stalls are ,,,The stall in the middle of the row has the best selection ..they start to open just after 4pm ...go then before it gets busy it's easier to park and not really crowded.

it's worth haggling the price too.

  2. Hi All .....My Brother Printer/scanner/fax machine (MFC250) needs servicing....the ink flow on a couple of the colours seems to be blocked and needs flushing or cleaning out can anyone please recommend somewhere which could do this.......Please don't just say Tuk Com can you say which floor and the name of the shop ....I don't fancy lugging it from one shop to another on the off chance that one of them can do it.

    Thanks in anticipation Cheers

  3. RabC I would be very keen to know where you actually got a 1.5Tb disk for 3000 baht

Soutpeel So would I......I bought a 1 T disk and it cost around THB 5k

Check out Tesco Lotus ...."Acer hard drive" 1.5 TB that's where I bought mine from about 7 months ago ... I definitely did not pay any more than ฿3500. that's why I said ฿3000 'ish'

  4. Yes I was there in August.......you can get a city saver ticket that let's you visit various attractions at a discounted price. I flew in with Airasia and when I presented my flight ticket to the ticket office I got a very substantial discount, though I can't remember exactly how much it was to be honest.

The theme park is ok, no more than that, anyone who has been to the theme parks in the US would be disappointed, although there are some highpoint attractions such as The Mummy, to my recollection I went through the park in about three hours, again in the parks in the US that would never happen. It would take you a whole day to traverse Universal Studios Orlando, and you would happily go back.

On the other hand, it's a good start for Singapore, it may develop into something more. I would suggest you also visit the Singapore Flyer, and try to get on that after night falls, that is quite spectacular and well worth the money, apparently if you have a mastercard and you pre-book you get a discount of about 20%?? Have a look at the Singapore Flyer website for special offers.

On a Friday and a Sunday you have the horse racing at the Singapore Turf Club, it's at the far side of the island but the MRT is quick and efficient. Entry is quite cheap, and tourists must use the gold lounge. The good news is that the gold lounge is excellent, air conditioned, and the food and drink are cheap by Singapore standards. A great night out.

I tend to stay in an area called Geylang, it's the red light / Chinese immigrant area. I agree that the hotels in Singapore are vastly over-priced so I use one called the Amrise, which is cheap, clean and efficient, although the rooms are tiny ( and I mean tiny ). However I take the attitude that it's only a clean bed and shower I'm after as there is plenty to see in Singapore to keep you out all day. There is an excellent street cafe vibe going on in Geylang, mainly Chinese food, and the beer is fairly priced by Singapore standards, expect to pay about $5.50 ( Singapore dollars ) for a large Carlsberg, I think that's a fair price compared to most developed cities.

Be careful Downtown though, around Raffles and City Hall area they know how to charge, so keep an eye on your spending. There are is an excellent park called Fort Canning about 5 minutes walk from City Hall MRT with an area called the Battle Box that tells the story of the Fall of Singapore, and the park is lovely. Singapore Art Museum is worth a visit, particularly after 6.00pm on a Friday as it is free admission. The National Museum of Singapore is superb, allocate at least three hours to visit it, and more if you can, when you see it you will know why.

Going back to Sentosa Island, there is plenty to do there, and I believe there is a decent beach however I didn't get a chance to visit it. Tourists also get free access to the giant casino at Sentosa so if you like a flutter carry on......it's well worth a look

By the way, don't get the airport taxi....walk downstairs and get on the MRT, that will get you into the city within 15 minutes and it is cheap, most tourists stay around the Orchard Street area, and Little India and Chinatown are nearby.......though I prefer the rough and ready real Chinatown in Geylang.

You can easily spend 7 days in Singapore, especially if you are a history buff and want to visit Changi Prison and the Old Ford Factory.....enjoy your trip!!

Thank you very much for your comprehensive reply.cheers

  5. WOW !!! some people seem to forget this is a tropical country and heavy down pours are the normal not the exception ....I would challenge any country in the world both developed and developing to cope with sudden large deluges without some kind of localised flooding

Is it that some people just like to complain for complaining s sake....I reckon the same people would complain that the Sahara Desert is too dry and why isn't the local mayor doing his "cloud dance" to summon the rains Gods.

  6. I was also wondering what happened when I tried to buy butter this morning in foodland.

Try " Lotus Express" the ones slightly out of town ....I've manage to buy butter there over the last week or so..

  7. I have owned a few Great Danes in the passed and I can concur that there are a drain on you both financially and emotionally .....these dogs are a great companions and are second to non but they are a very short lived dog compare too non giant breeds ..... after 6 years old these dogs can and do just die and this will not be helped by the extra stress of the heat and humidity of Thailand .

Please think long and hard before committing to a G/D

  8. Its maybe a watch thing..I was in Central Festival in BKK and my Big Crown ORIS was showing its age with a few scatches on the glass and body. I handed in to a young guy at their Watch repair point. 20 minutes later my watch looked like the day I bought it. All the scratches polished and buffed away. The young man refused any payment.

I agree with the OP. People are people, it is very easy to generalise, I know I am guilty of this myself. Better we promote the good in people

The worse thing is if I'd have said I was ripped off in Sio Buakhoa market THIS thread would now have been full of negative replies ...Why Oh why are people so adept at promoting the negative but never at advertising the positive ? ]

  9. I was doing some early Xmas shopping at Soi Buakhao Market today when the bracelet on my Tag watch came apart ....a very nice lady at a handbag stall pointed me in the direction of a watch seller and repairman at the market ....I hot footed it over to him showed him my watch and within 3 minutes he had repaired it ....I asked him how much to which he replied "free no change " and he refused the money I offered him to show my gratitude

One in the eye for all the non believers .....NOT ALL THAI's are here to rip you off ......95% of all Thai are wonderful and generous people I for one feel privileged to be a guest/living in there Country.

This posting is not meant to start a debate on Quote :- "Well ! I was ripped off " So all the whinger ,whiner and grumpy old men out there go somewhere else to do your moaning and groaning please .

  10. Instead of waiting to read off-topic comments, just call or visit the orphanage and ask what they need.

    TOPIC CLOSED

jehricholic "TOPIC CLOSED " Are you a moderator now ? or just another Ebenezer Scrooge trying to kill the Spirit of Christmas .....Bah !! HUMBUG .

I would seriously appreciate sensible ideas .

  11. This year instead of send cards and presents back to the UK at stupid expense I have decided to donate the equivalent to one of the local orphanages ....I do not want to give money for obvious reasons so I was wondering what would be the best thing to donate ....food ,cloths .books etc? any sensible idea's would be appreciated..

  12. I bet the girls just love getting to grips with some sweaty fat blokes tackle that has been sat on a long haul flight for hours on end.

Probably no better or worse than a sweaty fat bloke who's been sat on a bar stool for hours on end in 36 dgs temp and 90% humidity whistling.gif

  13. Where possible buy a house that is already in a company name ............

And what about if the government starts to crack down on these kind of Company's ? (Company's that only exist to buy a House)

You maybe forced to sell at a loss or worse .....

Are you talking by experience???? ...where do you get your information from? and or do you happen to be one of the renting brigade I mentioned ????? do you actually live in Thailand ? or are you just one of the many doom and gloom brigade who frequent TV ?

I live here and own a Condo and 2 Houses (in my wife's name) and I said "What if"

You actually said I quote "what about" NOT "What if " there's a big difference.
