  1. The UK passport office in Hong Kong recommends that you use DHL as there is a special arrangement in place. If in Thailand the application for a new passport takes about 3/4 weeks. Lots of comments on TV forum about this subject or look up the UK Goverment website for further information

  2. i used kun summalee if i remember the name correctly -from thanin law recently -and while not the cheapest -she definitely delivered in every aspect of the trade

the office is in thanin rd -santitam

I second that. Sumalee Jennapa of 29 Tanin Co Ltd Tel: 053 410174. Did the wills for my wife and l and has dealt with other family matters. Excellent lawyer

  3. Walk into any clinic and the doctor will do a qiuck test for about 100baht. I used Klaimor Hosp on the Hangdong Road before. Walk in and out in about 30 minutes then only a short ride up the road to the Dept of Transportation

  4. About 3 months ago l booked and printed out an appointment for renewing my 1 year extention of stay. I understand that now you are not able to book an appointment if it is over 100 days prior to the date l requested. Does this mean l have to re-book my appointment or will my previous request be accepted, I booked for 24 September so this is still out of the 100 days so cannot re-book until next week. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

  5. i really dont get it. yes they are expensive, but i use mach 3 blades and shave every day, and i have a very thick beard.

The blades last 2 to 3 months so i get a minimum of 6 months from a pack of 4.

anything else i have to relpace every 2-3 weeks, if not moree frequently.

so it is a hassle as well as a false economy

I agree you get a better shave with Mach 3 or Mach 3 turbo. The last time l bought replacement blades was in Phnom Penh where they were 180 baht for 4 so a lot cheaper than in LOS. As the blades each last a couple of months l will have enough until l go back to Phnom Penh for a holiday and to stock up again

  6. If the couple were legally married according to the laws of Thailand the marriage will be recognised in the UK. She will be entitled to claim a Death Allowance of 2000 GBP and a reduced pension (expect about 20K baht every 4 weeks) for one calendar year. The allowance and pension must be claimed from the Department of Works and Pensions based in Newcastle who will pay into his widow's bank account. She will need the assistance of an English speaker to complete all the documentation and to understand what documentary proof she must supply to substantiate her claim. If the deceased did the right thing and registered his wife with the DWP and she was issued with a National Insurance number she can claim a UK State Pension when she reaches her early 60's. The costs of his funeral should be borne from his estate and this should take precedence over all other claims. Depending upon his UK family's honesty she may have an uphill fight to claim what is left over. All too often the UK family members want to snaffle all that they can and object to handing over to somebody who they might classify as a 'jungle bunny.' If he died intesate she is entitled (I think) to the first 250K GBP of his estate after the funeral expenses have been met.

Full information about the DWP can be obtained by use of any search engine. If the deceased was drawing a works pension they may make a cash settlement to her or pay her a reduced pension depending upon the rules of the pension fund.

I acted for my wife's aunt and managed to get over 600K baht for her.

Correct and very good advice from Bagwan.

  7. I've driven my bro-in-laws top model 4wd a few times and its powerful enough. The 2wd should be even better, and better on fuel economy. I'm not sure of his economy though as I never asked. I find it a little noisy on hard acceleration, but I guess that is to be expected for a diesel (I normally drive a sedan). I think the 2wd is better value then the 4wd. Is that the only difference between the two? Looking at the ranger the 4wd system is worth 100K more, so I think 200K difference is not justified, especially as you don't plan to do offroading. My only concern would be the tan interior will need a lot of work to keep it looking good, especially if you got kids! It's worth a test drive.

Many thanks for your views. Will book a test drive. No kids so the interior should be ok. Do not know why the Pajero Sport does not offer different coloured interior

  8. almost tempted to wait and see if they bring out a face lifted fortuner or pajero this year

The new Pajero Sport 2.5VG Turbo is now on the market and the 2wd is 1,179.000 baht (excluding discount). Looks great but not had a test drive yet

  9. I had a look at the new Pajero Sport 2.5VG Turbo 2wd GT yesterday and was pretty impressed. It has lots of extras and the 2wd did not seem that expensive at 1,179.000 baht (before discount) when compared to other similar vehicles. Have any TV members had a test drive in the new Pajero Sport. I was quoted July delivery but want to find out a little more about the vehicle. Its quite a big vehicle and l was wondering if the engine is underpowered for a vehicle of its size and should l consider the 4wd drive option which costs about 200,000 baht more. Not interested in off roading but think the 4wd will be not be as good on the fuel economy. Any advice or thoughts would be most appreciated. Thank you

  10. on the B2S website there are ads for Kindle and if you google on Kindle Thailand, there is a Thai website selling them for 5 K baht

Good information, just looked at that site and is seems easy to buy it here in Thailand.

I bought my Kindle from Kindle Thailand in Bangkok via the internet. Excellent service and delivered in 2 days

  11. My wife could make calls on her Dtac sim in Sansai in the morning but l could not. Okay in the afternoon.

Thaimiller have you bought the forthcoming baby a new phone yet. Use AIS just in case

  12. Quite a shock opening up Thai Visa this morning and reading about the death of Blinky Bil. Met him a couple of times in Mad Dog and he seemed a very pleasant guy to talk to. So sad for his family and he will be missed by all on this forum. RIP

  13. Not been in Mad Dog for a couple of weeks as l have been in Cambodia for Songkran. Nick did not mention anything about refurbishment when l saw him shortly before my departure. I am keen to find out what is happening and will telephone one of his staff to see whats happening

  14. During the past week or so my internet connection has been very slow. I have the 3BB premium package costing just over 1000 baht a month and l live in the Sansai area. Any other TV members having similar problems? Its the slowest l have known it for years. Many thanks
