  1. Flying to Vienna next month to spend a month hiking. Would really appreciate it if you could suggest a few places in Slovakia
  2. I have several friends in the exact same position as you. Retired here after being posted to the embassy. None of them have any concerns about this.
  3. My suggestion is that you ignore the speculative comments regarding the LTR. The official word from BOI is that remittances to Thailand are not taxable. Why pay any attention to comments made regarding the LTR by people who do not even hold the LTR?
  4. By email. I also received the following by email “We want to clarify that the tax exemption for overseas income will commence from the month you receive the LTR Visa onward, which typically falls within the next tax year. Any income earned in the period prior to holding the LTR Visa will not be considered for tax exemption.”
  5. Since you deleted the sender details, I assume that this response did not come from BOI. Here is the response I received from BOI regarding this issue: If you hold LTR Visa and transfer the money from your oversea account into Thailand account, it will be considered as oversea income which will be exempted from Thai tax with LTR Visa benefit.
  6. I received a follow up telephone call from BOI. I asked the specific question regarding transferring money earned from prior employment outside of Thailand and received the response that it would not be exempt

  8. Received this from BOI today, tax exempt only for prior year: Greetings from the LTR Visa Unit. We want to clarify that the tax exemption for overseas income will commence from the month you receive the LTR Visa onward, which typically falls within the next tax year. Any income earned in the period prior to holding the LTR Visa will not be considered for tax exemption.

  12. I believe that you meant “will be taxable”. In any event, not a concern for me, as I only became a tax resident this year and have the LTR
  13. This could not possibly be more clear: From Royal decree 743: "Section 5 Income tax under Part 2 of Chapter 3 in Title 2 of the Revenue Code shall be exempted for a foreigner categorised as Wealthy Global Citizen, Wealthy Pensioner, or Workfrom-Thailand Professional who is granted a Long-Term Resident Visa under immigration law for assessable income under section 40 of the Revenue Code derived in the previous tax year from an employment, or from business carried on abroad, or from a property situated abroad, and brought into Thailand." 2 Quote
  14. LTR holders who have posted seem quite confident that they are tax exempt. If you are truly interested in the LTR and do not have confidence in what has been posted by LTR holders, why don’t you go directly to the BOI and ask them? I did this last week and received a prompt and satisfactory answer.
