  1. I’m hoping some of you knowledgeable guys can help with a question I have please.

My swimming pool pump wasn’t on when it should have been so I checked the control panel and found that the overload light was on. I understand this to be similar to a basic fuse in a plug which stops the appliance buggering up?

I got the pool company who built the pool 5 years ago to come and look at it and they said the windings had burnt out.

However I read this on the Hayward website...

Motor Shuts OFF – Check For:

    1. Low voltage at motor or power drop (frequently caused by undersized wiring or extension cord use).

Solution: Contact qualified professional to check that the wiring gauge is heavy enough.

NOTE - Your Hayward pump motor is equipped with an “automatic thermal overload protector.” The motor will automatically shut off if power supply drops before heat damage can build up causing windings to burn out. The “thermal overload protector” will allow the motor to automatically restart once the motor has cooled. It will continue to cut On/Off until the problem is corrected. Be sure to correct cause of overheating.

So surely this facility should have prevented the windings from burning out, correct?

    Thanks, Phil

  2. Yes you can save the set M online form and go back to each section in the order you prefer.

However unless I’ve missed something there is no info telling you which supporting documents you need to send with the application.

For documents required see this link which is for the form to complete with a pen but you can use it for guidance.

BTW are you sending a supporting letter?

  3. Having entered all your previous addresses, have you tried leaving the subsequent boxes blank instead of entering 'as above' and simply clicking on 'Next' and moving on?

I tried leaving the boxes blank but the page must be clicked where it says “check this section” and after clicking, the message in red comes up saying there are errors.

I don’t suppose you have an email address for the UKBA that someone might actually reply to and even know what they are talking about?

  4. I’m hoping someone who has completed the service set M ILR application form online can please help with a problem I have with the stupid form.

On the section 3, “your UK contact details” I have added our present address. Then the form asks for previous addresses for the last 2 years.

I have entered the details for 2 previous addresses but then another page appears asking for yet another address. I filled in the details typing simply “as above” but then another stupid page appears asking for another address.

It says there are errors when I try to click “check this section”

Has anyone else had this problem and know how to solve it please?

    Thanks,

    Phil

  5. Sorry to resurrect this thread but my partner had a similar issue regarding having to wait 2 years before being able to apply for ILR.

I queried it and was given the following reply which confirms that after passing the life in the Uk test ILR can be applied for straight away.

The full thread can be read here

    Dear Mr xxx

    Thank you for your enquiry.

Indefinite Leave to Enter is no longer granted due to the introduction of the Life in the UK test. Instead those who have been living abroad in a relationship akin to marriage are granted two years Leave to Enter in order for the applicant to complete the Life in the UK test. Once the test has been successfully completed the applicant is able to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain using the SET(M) application form, this can be done at any time during the two years. The applicant does not have to wait until they have completed 23 months in the UK.

    Yours sincerely,

  6. You don't say how big your pool is. The stuff your friend gave you may be algaecide, or clarifier - nobody knows. The sensible thing to do is to leave it alone and either refill the pool or chlorinate the water properly and use a clarifier to remove the algae. Clarifier is expensive, it usually comes in liquid form and some pool shops charge as much as 1,500 baht for a 3.78 litre (1 US gallon) bottle, At that price it may be cheaper to change the water and give the pool a good scrub down.

It costs a lot more than 1500 baht for the water and for tankers to bring it.

  7. A green pool is caused by algae, which means that levels of the primary sanitizer (chlorine) are low. Personally, I would not be putting strange chemicals in my pool if I was not sure what the chemical is. Get the chlorine level up, balance pH and check alkalinity.

    Gil

The powder is from a friend of mine for use in his village pool in the past when it went green. It was bought from Swimming pool warehouse on Thepprasit Road so it is the correct stuff, I just don’t know what quantity to put in the pool.

    Any idea?

  8. Our swimming pool has turned green. We have a 1-1.5 Kg bag of yellow powder to clear it.

Has anyone used this before and know how much powder should be put in the pool?

There are no instructions on the bag.

    Thanks, Phil

  9. This was the reply I received from the UKBA which may be of help to others.

See the rest of this thread for the full story.

  11. I only have the Complaints Dept BIA Customer focus Team in Croydon E Mail Other than the web site. .www. bia.homeoffice.gov.uk

it is ( [email protected] ) You could ask them + I have lots of phone No's depending on your Enquiries.

Hi Kenkate, thanks for your reply. My partner was issued with the incorrect settlement visa so I need to contact the UKBA but don’t know which department?

So any numbers you have would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Phil

  12. It seems from what they say that the entry clearance she has been granted means she will need to have been in the UK for 24 months, and satisfied KOL of course, before she can apply for ILR.

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that this is the wrong entry clearance.

However, my advice is to wait until you are both in the UK and then sort it out with the UKBA; I believe that at least one member had a similar problem which was successfully resolved once in the UK.

Hi 7by7, thanks for your reply. I think you are correct also.

We are in the UK now so I’ll contact the UKBA and try to sort this out.

    Thanks,

    Phil

  13. Regarding my query about my partners visa, I emailed the British embassy to ask about my partner’s visa status. Their reply is as follows.

In order to qualify for Indefinite Leave to Enter, the couple should be living together outside the UK for at least four years and the applicant has sufficient knowledge of the English language and sufficient knowledge about life in the United Kingdom, unless he/she is aged 65 or over at the time he/she makes the application. See SET16 Knowledge of Language and Life in the UK (the KOL provision).

Given that the applicant has not provided the document to prove that she has met the requirement of English language therefore we are satisfied that the decision to issue an unmarried partner visa was correct.

For further comprehensive guidance can be found from www.ukvisas.gov.uk

We hope this clarifies the position.

    Yours sincerely,

I thought her visa would have been for ILE subject to KoL?

Does anyone please know if this means she can still take the KoL test and apply for ILR straight away, or does she have to wait 27 months?

    Thanks,

    Phil

  14. Thanks for your reply 7by7.

I’m not the wiser as on my girlfriend’s passport it states.

TYPE Visa to join partner (then my name & date of birth)

    Valid = from 1/7/10

    Valid = until 1/10/12

Others = No recourse to public funds

Any idea what she was given?

    Look at the visa endorsement.

If a 27 month spouse visa it will say "Spouse Code 1 (your name)" and will give an expiry date.

If ILE, but she hasn't passed the LitUK test it will say " Settlement Spouse (KOL Req) Code 1 (your name)" and will give an expiry date.

If full ILE, i.e. she has passed the LitUK test, then it will say "Settlement Spouse (your name)" and will have no expiry date.

BTW, Code 1 means no recourse to public funds.

  15. Just today my girlfriend received a text saying her passport is ready for collection. (at last)

The application was submitted on 11th May but 2 weeks was lost because of the British embassy closing through the idiots in BKK

So now we just have to wit until monday.

    Good luck

Thanks for that Stament. She got it!

Does anyone know how I can tell if she has been given ILE as opposed to a spouse visa?

  16. Please can anyone who has applied for a new British passport in Thailand tell me what they ticked for section 4 of the C1 form where it asks,

"is the previous passport or travel document attached"

If I tick no then I need to answer all sorts of stupid irrelevant questions. But I can’t tick yes as I understand I do not need (or want) to include my present passport with my application when I send it to Hong Kong, so I would be lying if I tick yes.

    Thanks, Phil

  17. Now they are closing the B E so I would try to phone them as they take forever to reply to emails.

If they post your wife's passport back to you then what about your pile of supporting documents? I doubt they will pay to post lots of stuff!
