  1. Sydney used to be so quiet and remote with beautiful unspoilt beachs

then somebody dumped thier garbage there [prisioners]

and now its a heaving metropolis where drugs are readily avaliable [if you know where to find them]

alcohol is freely available [even brew thier own]

beaches are no longer pristine and many walk naked on the beachs [or near enough]

ive been there once and god forbid dont want to go back[im still talking about sydney]

  2. hi all

my understanding of the yellow book was that ,as a foreigner is allowed their name on it so you dont need to visit the immigration all the time for their endorsement of your registered address

supposedly free but on samui around 10,000 baht is asked /demanded/requested

with the immigration charging 500 baht each time , they surely dont want you to have one

Why post dubious information about cost of 10,000bt please provide some proof.

not dubious is it as the original post stated 10,000 baht was requested

and now 30,000 has been asked for ?????

  3. We live in a Sansiri house now for 8 years. Superficially all looks very good, but beneath the surface we have problems that stem from substandard construction. One only finds them, when a little repair is needed, or something goes wrong.

I found wood used in parts of the roof where there should be steel, I found electric switches wrongly wired, plumbing issues, terraces going down, low quality materials as it turned out etc.etc.

Of course all that starts to surface after warranty period is over...

We have decided the next time we buy a house, we built it ourselfs.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

if you have been around construction in thailand you will know that this is normal practice

theres very little in the way of qualified building inspectors /project managers to look after these things

as for the original post theres nothing said about how the actual problem is going to be resolved?

just blacklist the contractor?????[that will work]

    nothing like

ok we will get some qualified people in to rectify the problem, thanks for pointing this out , and we will try to fix it in the future

normal construction procedure in thailand is to take the money and never return

ive built many houses here and oversee them all myself

would never buy a finished property without watching the construction

  4. hi

ive no problem drinking tap water [unless its brown or smells]

ive found most well water is fine

after boiling most/all water is drinkable

supot electric has a good range of water filters

because if you buy one make sure you can buy replacement [filters]

dont fall into the trap of buying one then cant get parts

that really gets your blood boiling

    cheers

  5. copied this from tripadvisor

    Fridays

[in Bophut at fisherman’s village from 5 pm till 11pm [about],first and largest on Samui and usually very busy if weather permits , huge amount of street food and clothing as well as souvenirs and gifts ,the road is closed to traffic so find parking outside the village and walk on in, allow a few hours to stroll the many side avenues,Most restaurants are open and enjoying the crowds ]

    Saturdays

[ in the capitol ,Nathon walking street is along a minor street between the main[one way] road and the beach road , 5pm onwards also closed to traffic with prices usually a bit cheaper than other markets and still a great place to eat and shop, some different food is sometimes available here ]

note that everyday on the waterfront there is a local food market

    Sundays

[Lamai main beach road from bridge to market area ,5 pm onwards not as large as Bophut but probably? second,Road is closed to traffic along part of the main beach road ]

    Mondays[?]

Chaweng main beach road is one big market every day

    Tuesdays[?]

Chaweng main beach road is one big market everyday

    Wednesdays

[Choeng mon outside Muang Samui hotel, miniature floating market theme ,5 pm onwards along both sides of the main road. traffic is not closed, so be careful crossing the road ,quite a good variety of food and goods for a small village Market and worth a visit if you are in the area ]

another on bangrak pier as well

    Thursdays

[Maenam main intersection down to the beach ,5pm onwards ,traffic is closed on the 2 side streets leading down to Maenam beach, more relaxed and laid back than Bophut but has a more local feel about it ,great selection of food and many times theres a show outside the Chinese temple ]

  6. hi

my reply as that it should be done daily

pool sanitation is best done in small amounts and often

daily is best so as not to put your pool water out of balance

hi and low chlorine levels are not ideal [constant levels are ]

so by dosing your pool 2 times weekly you are in fact making your chlorine levels up and down

a salt system takes all the time [wasted ] out of the equation and[once set up correctly]

needs very little more work required

myself now tests ph weekly and chlorine probably monthly

and if set correctly only gives your pool the correct amount of chlorine pretty much most of the time , therefore you are not swimming with excess chlorine [which isnt very nice ]

again if set correctly you should never get [red eye] irritation or bleaching

your grout will stay put [not erode over time ]

and you are swimming in a very slight saline solution which is rather less harsh that some water [especially on samui]

your tear drops are slightly saline so when you open your eyes in a salt pool there should be no irritation [which you will feel with an overdose of chlorine ]

    twice weekly still isnt good

    daily would be better

    up to you tho

i prefer to hardly touch my pool and swim/bathe in a little salt

and not touch/smell/inhale/ breathe, chlorine at all

theres also a self cleaning pool system available so soon we may not have to do so much of that as well

    cheers

  7. if your putting chlorine in your pool weekly then you are doing it wrong

chlorine should be put in your pool daily in small amounts to keep everything in balance

not just big lots all at once

thats the benifit of a salt system

chlorination is done daily and adjustable on the timing system

once set up and monitered correctly you can leave your salt system for a long time

i can leave my pool for weeks without problems

overdosing your pool in chlorine can ruin the grouting on your pools [ive repaired a few ]

so keep going and useing your chlorine weekly

it may cost you in the end

  8. Samui got city status this year and is therefore able to receive more funding/assistance from government

anyhow we are long awaiting the first [using metred taxi in samui ]

at which time i will start informing my guests to use them , until then we advise all to rent a car

its cheaper than a return taxi fare

cant wait to see the results of this crackdown????

  9. they will need to re write the companies act to ever be able to enforce this [rubbish]

by forming a thai company you create a thai juristic entity[person]

there is only a few ways to get shareholders in a company[any company in the world] [you nominate them]

or they purchase shares[even if they borrowed the money to purchase the shares , it doesnt matter]

foreigners do not own land in thailand

    thai juristic persons [companies ]do

you may be a shareholder in the thai company[which owns the land ] but it does not belong to you [or the nominee/s or the directors]

until the companies act is changed they are pi55ing in the wind

  10. get rid of all normal taxis

only allow hybrids or better still electric ones

then make them use metres and then pay thier tax

    big earner already there

we dont need a mass transit system [we have it already , they are called songtaews ]

just make them run on gas/electric/enviro friendly system and design some fixed routes and keep some people employed at the same time

samui already is way ahead of phuket [imo]

by changing the 12 metre rule samui will just follow phuket into a horrible multi storied beach resort

make all properties on samui use bio septic tanks [no more leeching /discharging in the soil/sea ]

chaweng may not stink so much then [maybe ]

promote solar power on the island

restrict sales of small land plots and put in place regulations for planning

[forgot they have that already and dont enforce it ]

all these things are already being done in many countries

nothing new here at all just a mind set change [long distant planning ]

which we all know is not a thai trait

    ho hum

  11. hi guys

galvanising is a coating on top of the steel

you can weld [as above ] and paint with special paint on the welded area

you can readily buy galvanised pipe on samui [used for water lines ]

only seen round shape not seen anything square or rectangular

small parts can be sent to suratThani for galvanising

    cheers

  12. what is the legal rate per KM for taxis to charge ?

    any body have any ideas?

as on samui Taxis are allowed to charge 90 baht [then the metred rate ]

ive just done a km check from the airport to chaweng [3 kms to start of the one way system]

and chaweng is 5 kms long

so max distance would be less than 10 kms

@ 10 baht per km [plus one off charge 90 baht ] = total 190 baht from airport to chaweng

taxi cost on samui for this trip around 400 baht

blatant overcharging by at least 100%[probably untaxed also ]

which equals millions and millions of baht per year rip off and untaxed
