I have lived in Tambon Long Khod, 70K from CM, route 1001 to Amphoe Phrao for 17 years. 1 hour run to the City25 minute to Phrao with excellent market. Even the smoke is not too bad. Thoroughly recommend you have a look, plenty of properties to rent or buy.

The pink card is very useful signing in to a Government Hospital, It photocopies easily into their automated document system.

Not sure I follow you. If I read your post correctly you had proof of 28k monthly income and 423k in bank deposit. That only totals 759k, which is not enough to qualify for a retirement extension.

What? This well over the 68,000 required, isn't it?

So you are the actual victim.
Did you get an embassy letter confirming the pension as well?
If I read your sentence correctly, you are changing from a retirement to a marriage visa instead? Is that right?
UK, no Embassy letter, so yes, had to change to mariage visa extension. Visited by IO at home, certified everything OK. Interesting comment from him 'this will be the preffered method in the future'. More changes on the way?

I am the one who was flatly refused the combination at CM earlier this month. My bank book and letter clearly showed 28,000 monthly income from UK, correctly coded by Bangkok bank. I had Government Bank letter with423000 baht for the year. Mai die, they said..
Had to use the bank letter for married to Thai, complete next week.

I was refused the combination method in Chiang Mai 3 weeks ago. I had 28,000 income per month and 40,000 in the bank, fully documented. I had the palaver of switching to 'Married to a Thai', 40 minutes of bureaucracy, as if it was my first time. Had a visit from an officer, who gave the tip, stick with it safer in the long run. Go back 3 Sept to get the full stamp.

Good luck with Plan C m8.
Achieved it, but ye Gods, what a bureaucratic nonsense. Took 40 minutes, all Thai with the officer chatting to my wife and photocopying everything in sight.
Thanks for your good luck note.

Kor Raw 2, available at any amphur office, just show your marriage certificate, costs 20bht.
CM immigration always want that for marriage extension.
Sorry, you are wrong. To get ours, we drove the 100k to our own Amphur in Phrao. No, they said, must be where all the paperwork is at the Amphur where you were married. So, drive the 100k back to central CM only to find the office has now moved to the Government complex at Mai Rim. Sorted it out and paid 40 baht for 2 copies.

Retirement Extension refused at Chiang Mai
This would have been my 12th extension for retirement, previously done without problem with the Embassy letter, income method. I have always done it myself, no agent. OK, the rules have changed but my income hasn’t. I use 3 pensions, 2 are paid in monthly to Bangkok Bank, about 28 to 29 thousand. The other pension, my occupational pension is paid into my Lloyds bank UK. I use this to pay some UK commitments like alimony from my 1st marriage, so I can’t bring it all direct to Thailand.
Every month I draw by ATM on the last day of the month, when the pension is paid, 40,000 baht. This is done at Bangkok Bank, Chiang Mai and paid straight into my account with them. This then totals the 68,000 or so for my income statement. I retain the debit card slips, together with the Lloyds bank account showing it paid into Thailand.
At Immigration, I presented all this paperwork, including the Income statement from Bangkok bank. Rejected, the money has to come direct into the bank account, not via an ATM, even though it is shown beyond all doubt it is from UK and is not recycled.
Plan B, as a reserve backup, I have my emergency fund with Government Savings Bank, of 400,000 baht. I acquired the letter from them, it has been there for over a year. So, I presented this to Immigration, saying if they won’t accept the 40,000 baht monthly income, do the combination method. Complete news to me, I was told that this has been discontinued, it is 800,000 only for the bank account system.
OK, move to plan C, extension by married to a Thai. I am now in the process of constructing all the additional paperwork that is required, including going back to the Amphur where we were married, to get a ‘Tor Ror 2’ verification of marriage, something again new to me.
I post this as an advisory note to others.

Had ours for a year now; delighted with it. Handling, room, comfort, can't think of a better car in that range. Wife took a group of 6 others to a funeral 100k away, all impressed - one passenger placed an order for a new one the next week.

Yes, have one and easy to get. Fully accepted at police checkpoint.
opened a new account at Government Bank with one; they preferred it to my passport. So it's a positive for those having difficulty in opening accounts.

The usefulness of the farang ID card has been questioned elsewhere. I opened another account with one, easy, no questions.

Young surgeon there said it was a clean break, no movement so in a caste. 30,000 bt covered by motorbike insurance. Very professioal in all aspects, so Nokornping for me.

I have spent most of my working life in the catering industry, mainly in an executive or management position. However, early on I cooked under some first rate Chefs. Now, aged 80, I have gone back to my roots and thoroughly enjoy being creative in the kitchen. The Internet is great, I am constantly finding new dishes to try. I have a superb freezer, so I can cook and preserve a lot.

I asked my bank (BKK bank, Thapae, CM) if hey would supply a letter confirming my income of about 70,000 bt a month. This is 2 direct pension inputs of 15,000 each, plus 40,000 bt I put in from ATM from my UK bank ( also a pension income). They said 'No' (mai dai). So my only hope next August is IO CM will accept my bank book with this information.
I don't like the idea of paying some crook of an agent to 'season' me 80,000 for a day at 20,000 bt a whack, some of it going to a wonky IO officer on the take..

My wife of 17 years here in CM is already making plans to sell some land to raise the 800,000 bt needed. Over the the years I have contributed to the family capital and business and there was no question they would help out. I am grateful indeed.

If a letter from the bank to prove a balance of 800,000 baht is acceptable, I do not see why a letter from the bank to prove monthly foreign transfers of 65,000 baht or more should not be acceptable (or the equivalent quarterly/biannual foreign transfers).
Clearly, the 800,000 baht in the bank option is much more susceptible to fraud than the monthly foreign transfer.
EI asked BKK bank CM if they would do this for me. Answer - No.

Maybe Thai banks can issue official letters confirming that a minimum of 65,000 Bt each month has been deposited in your account with them. This will be the same kind of letters that the bank issues for the seasoned 800K.
I have just checked with BKK bank main office in Chiang Mai (Thapae Road), and they maintain that they are unable to issue a letter confirming income. The lady said 'surely the bank passbook is proof enough'.
Interesting, checked with Thai Immigration Chiang Mai, they were unaware of the B Embassy stopping the service. I asked if the bank book, with 70,000 p month income would be sufficient. He said he didn't know, The problem is that it will require a years income into the book to show it's a regular thing, so I need to set this up now.

Although in reasonable good health, at the age of 80, it is impossible, emphasise impossible to get meaningful health insurance. So any entreaties to do so are not in the realm of reality. All I can do is try and build an emergency fund; but this keeps getting raided as part of normal life.

I spent my working life in catering. Apart from tecnical skills, the next is place, situation and location (ie, the same thing). Passing trade is important to get established. So many fail because they are off the beaten track. Another thread suggests work permit no longer an issue, this might open the door for you. Best of luck.

My wife has gout and been advised to avoid bamboo shoots. A friend in UK suggested Allopurinol. Very effective, so now she doses up with it, before continuing to eat bamboo shoots. A very 'Thai' approach.

I get stopped at our Tambon check point on the Phrao road frequently. The local bobby wants to exchange football remarks; he is a Chelsea fan & I am Liverpool. We both agree, with a thumbs down that Man U are 'kayaa' with hoots of laughter. Last week, with the world cup under way, I was waved through with a broad grin and 'Angkhrit pai dee'.
Is Bangkok Bank still open in Chiang Mai during lockdown ?
