  1. Thanks for the quick reply! I'm German, I guess all western nationalities are eligible. I've traveled through Luang Prabang airport several times too... have always had a visa beforehand, and have to admit I have never seen a visa desk anywhere there. Was it in the arrivals hall or the (one) big terminal room? Thanks for the info

  2. Have tried alloexpat.com, orientexpat.com, and expat-blog.com....but am still looking for a good Laos-specific forum regarding setting up business, land lease contracts, work permits, lawyers.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

    Many thanks in advance!

  3. I am currently on my 5th consecutive Tourist Visa - the last 3 issued by the Thai embassy in Vientiane.

I use one of the local 'agents' that set up shop right outside the embassy. For a fee of 1500 baht paid to them you WILL be guaranteed a single entry tourist visa (60 days & 30 day extension), or for 2000 baht guaranteed a double entry (2x 60 days). They do the paperwork, you sign and you get your passport delivered to your guesthouse the following day with new tourist visa. Saves you having to hang around for hours in the embassy, and coming back the next day.

The visa stamp is all genuine - try Mr Oon, nice & friendly chap, speaks very good English.

  4. Have to totally agree with lovelomsak. Arrive in Bangkok, possibly base yourself in KhaoSan Road for a few days (for a first time backpacker its very convenient for planning your onward travels), go and explore the city sites and most importantly sit back have a beer and acclimatise to the sights, sounds and smells. Then - grab the LP (for a first time visitor it truly is invaluable!), choose your next destination and totally enjoy the freedom of having plenty of time, a bit of cash and a sense of pure discovery to look forward to. Ahhhh...those where the days...

Take care, always smile and enjoy!

  5. Thanks lopburi3

I plan to rent and open a small falang-food restaurant, working as the cook, thus I would be self-employed and not working for any employer.

With my current Non-Imm 'O' marriage visa, I was wandering if I a work permit is granted with this visa status...or... if I would have to follow the -standard- path of creating a Thai company etc, for the purpose of receiving this work permit.

    thanks
