  1. One thing that bothers me is that this is AMATEUR boxing. It isn't the Olympics concern or the referees concern what seemed to me was the main reason this boxer acting out like a big Thai baby. I strongly felt it was about lost MONEY. Just my opinion. A silver medal isn't chopped liver if you are really in the games for noble reasons. Granted many athletes aren't but this boxer was more obvious about it than most. So he lost the big money. Boo hoo. That's his personal problem.

I kinda disagree. The Chinese boxer ( or any Chinese athletes) cannot in the real sense be classified as AMATEUR in the sense that in China it is their job 24/7. Other athletes actually have main jobs so a certain amount of sponsorship is expected. My take is that he was mainly disappointed with not getting the gold. The Cuban coach was a dick.

    sent from my Wellcom A90+

The amateur status of the olympics disappeared many games ago. They have allowed all professionals to play. Look at tennis. It is also what the countries governments put into their sports.

  2. Swans V Collingwood

What a great game! not high scoring, but played tough and the winner not decided until the final minutes.

These two are both genuine GF contenders, IMHO (slightly biased of course).

Swans let themselves down with poor kicking at goal. Couple of easy ones they missed cost the game, but the pressure was on throughout. Sydney also missed having a forward who could take a mark in the contest. Goodes was not on song and couldn't provide the spark they needed. Game could have gone either way. Bodes well for both teams.

I think it's imperative for the Swans to get a home final if they want to make it.

At this stage of the season Collingwood look the goods but it can change pretty quickly.

Cannot discount Ade and they will have a home final.

I can see a large gap between the top for and the rest now.

Judging on the next 3 games I think the top 4 in order will be:

    Ade

    Coll

    Syd &

    Hawks.

So, Ade v Hawks in Ade and

    Syd V Coll in Melbourne.

    Regards

    Will

I watched the first half of the Swans Collingwood yesterday but mised the rest. Everytime Sydney plays my wife organises outings ( St Kilk,a trip to Chiang Rai) So at half time yesterday she says I have to go to hospital. How inconsiderate. Our baby was born this morning. I am very glad to miss the rest. I did not find out the result until this afternoon.

    Back to AFL

Well done Collingwood on their win.

Will I think you maybe spot on.I think that Adelaide will be number 1 with their easy draw. Collingwood have play West Coast over there but Sydney have to play 2 very hard last round games. The smokie in the field maybe Nth Melbourne but I have read they have some injuries.

Congrats on the birth of your chlid Rip! smile.png

These last 4 games could also favour Sydney. They will go into the finals having played some hard games. The Collingwood game felt like finals footy. Sydney's weakness could be its forward line. A lack of talls who can mark inside the 50. Sam Reid will be back and I hope he can produce some form again.

    Thanks Bookman

These easy game that Adelaide have may play against them. I hope so anyway.

  4. Are there precedents, anywhere in the world, where an airline operates its international services from one airport and its domestic services from another?

The main point is that the shuttle between the airports counts as a legal obligation for Air Asia to get you to your connection in time, taking into consideration the transport by road, check-in, immigration, customs.

It will not be possible to do immigration and customs at your domestic departure any more. If Airports of Thailand are responsible for the shuttle bus service, they can create a "transit" shuttle service: the passengers in the shuttle bus are already in transit (outside Thailand). Are there any precedents?

Air Asia are only operating from DM Their international flights will depart from there as well as domestics

  5. I suggest that you , if you have not already done so, apply for an ETA. As a citizen of the USA you can. Then you apply through VFS for a visa for your wife. You also submit a letter from you stating the following.

Where you want to travel to and what you want to see in Australia This will also include dates

Include a copy of your marriage certificate

Include a copy of drivers licences or any other evidence of residence in Thailand.

    Copy of her teachers contract.

Go onto the Immigration website and download the visa application. Then fill it in. This will save time at VFS

If you do this I think the visa will be granted very quickly.

I am Australian and applied for a visa for my girlfriend at the time ( now wife) and after a phone call from the embassy and more documents lodged it was approved within 7 days from initial logement.

  6. The bike was old... At least a few years and had damage... I will pay the hiring fee... But 800 is steep for a 2 minute ride?

Can any laws prevent the payment... Im entirely sure the damage was already there and that they are just trying to rip us off...

Laws. Let's cut this one short. No. I don't mean to be short about this one, but if you read through this site (save yourself the bother if this is just a holiday) you will discover that some of the brightest and boldest people have lost their cases with the backing of decent legal teams. It is difficult to explain with-out superlatives so I ask the standard long-term members to hold their horses in tearing me apart as this is for the good of the OP. The courts here will find for the side of an foreigner SO rarely it is ludicrous.

Now the "not laws" part. This is the part you REALLY need to listen to. If you like walking and breathing a great deal then B800 might be the cheapest price you will ever pay. Seriously, don't mess. There are numerous threads on here detailing unexplained suicides in this country. Just the other day a man "seemingly" stabbed himself to death. Have you thought about the likelyhood of this? Another man managed to behead himself and hang himself off one of Bangkok's most important bridges.

B800. As I have said, pay and say "Thank you". You have 3 500+ posters here recommending the same solution. You came for advice, you got it. If you don't like it then do what you will. Just read a few of the news threads on here first.

    Wow that takes some doing.

    Is it April 1st already?

  7. Good win the Eagles.

Pity we don't get to watch next weeks Western Derby

    between Freo and WCE.

With the game being on a Sat, I thought it was a chance

to be shown but not to be.

    Regards

    Will

Didn't realize it was on the Saturday. A danger game, and a must win, for the Eagles if they are to have a chance. (only top 4 win premierships).

Freo has improved recently and are contenders for the hotly contested position 8 on the ladder. Could be a good game.

I like to watch West Coast live every week, so when the game's not on the OZ Network I use; http://www.afl.livesport.tv/

It's about 600 Baht/month or 300 Baht for 7 days and shows live streams of every game each round. Replays of each game seem to be available 8-12 hours after they have finished. The streams aren't always crystal clear but definitely more than watchable, if you like viewing your team every week.

West Coast V Collingwood on the 25/8 is on Australian network at 1630.

  8. I think that some poster do not read the original thread very well. They have their blinkers on and only see the headlines. They do not read other posts. If George had omitted SATIRE how many other posters would have been caught. The small print of notthenation would have been missed by many others. It was like the 1st April post of the banning of Viagra. There were so many posters that read and attacked it. I thinks Georges post was great but in future less hints.

  9. What is the likelihood of being refused entry in Australia because immigration thinks the traveller is planning to overstay? Most, and I stress most travellers (on this Forum) who get a multi-entry tourist Visa have already travelled to Australia on a 3 month Visa. So have 'proven' themselves to be relied upon to abide by the Visa conditions. Some score the multi that you mention with their first application, but it appears to be the exception and not the rule.. Sorry, my question wasn't clear enough. I was asking what the likelihood was of being refused entry into Australia travelling on a one way ticket as opposed to obtaining the visa itself. wink.png

Sorry missymoo ... my bad for not understanding your question. My gf's experience was that when she flew AirAsia BKK-KL-OOL about 6 months ago, at the Bangkok Airport they asked to see her return ticket out of Australia.

This time she fly AirAsia BKK-SIN, then another carrier from SIN-OOL and the ticket was not asked for.

My gut feeling (not a know fact) is that the Airline is responsible for your exit of the Country and have a vague recollection of reading that in other parts of this Forum.

    Hope that helps.

Just a query. Was she asked for the return ticket at checkin or when she went to the departure gate?

  10. I know nothing of Australian visas, but do have a question.

<snip> surely it's cheaper than two singles?

I know where you are coming from 7by7.

If, you were to buy 2 x single Thai Airline tickets it would be much more expensive then buying a standard return flight.

However, if were to use on of the Low Cost Carriers such as AirAsia or Scoot, then usually the Return works out roughly the same price as 2 Single tickets.

This must only be Thai Airways as the likes of Qantas is simply 2x one way tickets.

I just did a test booking via the Qantas website and you can get a ticket BKK - SYD - BKK valid for 12 months. Full flexi fare is 43,000 baht. Would be around 30,000 baht for confirmed booking, no cancellation refund. As said lower prices from Low Cost carriers, but would your father be comfortable with changing flights at KL or Singapore.

There is one problem with booking Qantas online from Thailand. If you use a credit card you have to produce this card within working days 2 days of the booking

This is what is on their website

    Important Information

After you have completed your booking you will need to visit our office below within two working days for credit card and signature verification. Your ticket will be issued once your credit card has been sighted.

  11. if he has retirement money of 65,000 THB, and his wife now only sends 20,000 THB, then she certainly doesnt take the rest for herself, but the money gets saved for him...

from the OP i dont understand, why 20,000 THB per month are not enough to care for a person with dementia...

if there is more money needed, and there are bills to prove that, then certainly the german relatives will send more...

    or not?

i think the guy has sufficient money and he should get a proper care here...

    its really awful...

I think the figure of 65,000 is to cover the visa requirements, which, looking at the story, he no longer gets each month.

Therefore it opens up more problems for the poor guy and those near to him in Thailand

I'm assuming, from the OPs comments that his Thai lady is still with him, and hasnt "cut her losses" and done a runner.

    Penkoprod

I'm assuming that....... Please stop to assume! The guy had worked for the German government and he would have more money than 65,000 baht coming in. The German X_itch never wanted a divorce as she was the one who had huge benefits, paying lower taxes etc....

His Thai gf wouldn't do a runner, you shouldn't read too much about truck or van drivers causing accidents. In addition my friend Erol just passed away and I hope you do know what respect really means.

    Stay on topic, please.wai.gif

    RIP

I know hope that the callous posters have second thoughts of what they have said.

He was lucky to have someone like you to care about him.

  12. you can not live without beer a few days a month?

I do not think some people who post on this forum can

They are the ones complaining not the tourists

Yeah....that's right. All the Jetstar Bogons pile off the flight, arrive in Patong to find all the bars closed and they don't say a word.

Gotta love those Aussies for never whinging. cheesy.gif

Please if you are going to quote an Aussie word spell it correctly. It is Bogan http://www.bogan.com.au/definition/index.php

  13. Boric acid is sold by virtually every decent drug store in the world. It is NOT a difficult item to find but you might need to know the Thai name for it at some drug stores. For those who can't find drug stores, there are at least three chemical supply companies in Chiang Mai; two on Suthep Rd, on the same side as Wat Suan Dok, (one about one block east and another about 2-3 blocks east,) and another on the north side of Old City, facing the moat. The chemical supply houses will call it Boric Acid.

Boric acid can be used as an antiseptic for minor burns or cuts and is sometimes used in dressings or salves. Boric acid is applied in a very dilute solution as an eye wash. Dilute boric acid can be used as a vaginal douche to treat bacterial vaginosis due to excessive alkalinity.[14] As an anti-bacterial compound, boric acid can also be used as an acne treatment. It is also used as prevention of athlete's foot, by inserting powder in the socks or stockings, and in solution can be used to treat some kinds of otitis externa (ear infection) in both humans and animals. The preservative in urine sample bottles (red cap) in the UK is boric acid.

It is toxic if taken internally in large quantities, i.e. about 10g per Kilo of body weight. A man weighing 90k would need to eat more than a pound of boric acid to be fatal.

Thanks FolkGuitar. This gives me a completely different impression of what people in the "red ant" thread were saying. It seemed that according to the posts in that thread, it was a difficult item to find. (Something about its availability being banned in Thailand (for the most part) because too many unscrupulous meat venders were using to make old meat look fresh -- apparently an unhealthy thing to do.)

But you're saying that it's a common item in drug stores. So, if i visit the village drug store or Boots in Pattaya, will they'll have it? Failing that, does anyone know of a chemical supply shop in or around Pattaya?

Unless there is a 'real' governmental ban on the stuff, a drug chain such as Boots would certainly carry it. Or PharmaChoice. But I'd bet that your village shop has it too. It's just waaaay too common an item not to have it. It's as common as Hydrogen Peroxide.

This กรดบอริก 'could be' the Thai name for it. I just used 'Google Translate' for Boric Acid and it came up with that.

    Thanks again!

I've written down the Thai language version you supplied and will see my local chemist on the way home from work.

I bought borax online from a company in Phuket. For 500 grams it was 260 baht including EMS postage to Phayao Here is the link http://www.healthfoo...s=borax&x=7&y=7

  14. Air Asia Indonesia was quite small compared to other AA-units and used the oldest planes. It has recently taken over a more big Indo low-cost carrier (Batavia Air??) and is to merge it with its own routes-and I just guess this is simply the low-cost new HQ for that unit. the MAIN HQ is to firmly remain in Malaysia.

The take over is not 100% approved.

AirAsia would acquire 49 percent of Batavia Air and Fersindo would buy 51 percent. That would bypass the Indonesian regulation limiting foreign ownership of local airlines to 49 percent.

The deal is still awaiting approval from Indonesian regulators.
