    Stretching the imagination.

I very rarely meet hardworking Thai men, after 30+ years of living and working here.

How does one survive in this country 30+ years?

Does it ever annoy you when you realise that you spend more money here than back home and have to put up with a lot in order to be treated like a 2nd class citizen?

  2. Hi all,

Got into an altercation with an employee of a restaurant because the gentleman moved my motorbike twice on the same day (afternoon and around 2 am) from the spot where it was parked at Tesco lotus, in order to let the customers of his restaurant park.

On both occasions I asked/(warned) him not to move my bike because it was not parked in their parking.

What concerns me is on the 2nd occasion he denied moving the bike and then responded with the typical "you want fighting?" response ????

Tried calling tourist police and the new helpline 1111 (think I woke someone up at 2 am) with the usual result.

I find it rather difficult to keep a cool head and do the S*it eating grin especially when I am p*ssed off

Also I have a feeling that this will happen again whenever I park in the future, which might escalate into a fight (I know how stupid getting in to fight with 10+ Thais on my own)

What is the best course of action in case of assault?

Or is there a better way to handle this? would be grateful for any advice from anyone with experience ????

Just paid the bill using Thai issued Citibank credit card ?

One minor issue, card payment is limited to 5,000 Baht, this bill is under but we sometime creep over so will have to pay via online banking or back to the Seven ?

Mine is always more than 5k ? Can you pay via online banking using kbank? Tried to setup the other day but the only available option is for Bangkok (Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA))

  5. HI All :),
Just realised that my 3 month non ed visa expires the day before I fly to Udon (from Chiang Mai) and cross the border (on the same day) to Vientiane.

Can I board a domestic flight without having any problems? do they check visa? or just the id page of passport?

    What should I do?
    1. Book a new flight?
    2. Fly to Udon with 1 day overstay, pay 500 at the border?

    TIA

There is a small selection of Pu Ehr at Tops ( 5 or 6 different kinds ), however it is in teabags rather than in cake form, or loose tea.

I also bought some online, pm me if you want the website details.

    Phil

Which branch? Couldn't find at KSK ?
    Is the store https://yunnansourcing.com/collections/pu-erh-tea ?

You didn't specify what sort of Pu'erh tea you were looking for?

Cake, brick, loose, tuo? Did you want Sheng? Or Shou?  Aged or fresh?

While you can find some nice Pu'erh in the Warrarote area (cake and tuo)  if you look closely, your bet bet, if your truly love Pu'erh, is to order it on line. This shop carries perhaps the largest selection of Pu'erh I've ever seen, as well as wonderful black teas, too.

    Any type ?

you can find some nice Pu'erh in the Warrarote area (cake and tuo) > do you have the location? ? I always get rather intimidated by the sheer choice and the heat!.

It will be very hard to get genuine aged puerh tea anywhere in Chiang Mai.  A lot of fake or new Puerh tea that has been processed to look old.

For genuine aged (up to 40 years) Puerh tea in Thailand have a look at this blog:

    www.theguidetopuerhtea.blogspot.com

    Not cheap but genuine.

    will check thanks!

As Im always looking to score some tea s well..used to be a fancy shop by JJ Market area...might be gone  ?

Just Rimping Maya, will try nr Ping.

Read about the teashop in Kad Luang / Warrorot, might try and look for it ?

  8. HI,

Is there a local place where I can get some Pu?

From what I've read CM used to (still on) the southern silk road, with many traders coming from yunan to CM for selling tea.

Ordered some from yunnan sourcing, but then found out that I can get cheaper on amazon.

    TIA

  9. Hi all :),

Trying to figure out Which Air conditioner to buy? since the current  one is guzzling electricity ? and noisy ?

12000 BTU, for bedroom upstairs, not directly exposed to sun[light]

We will be buying directly from somewhere (in Chiang Mai) like siam TV or Home Pro

    1. Mitsubishi >> recommended by electrician as the best choice

    2. LG  >> recommended by electrician as the 2nd best choice, works great initially but then problems after some time

    3. Daikin

    4. Others

Would be very grateful for any advice ?

You obviously don't understand the business. My guesthouse averages over 90% occupancy. If I relied only on walk-ins that number would drop to 20%. Booking fees average 15-18% and that is just added on as a fixed cost when determining rents.

If you have a better method of selling out rooms please share it with me.

    Hey JazzDog,

How difficult is it for a Thai national to register

    1. For a hotel license?  or to

    2. register under the Hotel Act?

will be most grateful for any advice :)

    TIA

Renting out condo units for less than a month without a hotel license was always a legal violation.  The court ruling was expected.  It doesn't apply to single-unit homes.

    Hey Zaphod,
What is a single-unit home? is it like a town house? Terraced house? detached? semi detached?

Is these a place where this law is documented?
    TIA

It rather depends on the layout of the houses, and in which rooms in each house you want to have a connection, but I would look at putting a wireless access point in the window of the first house and another in the window of the second. This will avoid problems related to exposure to rain etc. The two wifi devices will communicate very happily with each other over such a short distance without obstructions. For distribution inside the second house you could use wifi or LAN or PowerLAN depending on the shape and size of the house.

Running an Ethernet cable outside might be a good solution, assuming that it is practical ie the houses are next door to each other and there isnt a road or jungle between the two houses. You should use suitable conduit protection or run the cable overhead as some rodents like eating Ethernet cables.

Thank you so much :), Yes this might be the way to go :) with 2 APs, BTW didn't know rodents liked Ethernet cables :) probably like the shark attacked on under sea cables I guess :)

Would a brand like TP link be OK  for Access points? or  should I look for something better like Linksys or Cisco?

Run a LAN cable from the main router to the second house and fit a wireless access point there, a cable should work up to 100m, so you have plenty of wriggle room if you have to add vertical elements to clear obstacles or allow vehicles under it.

Doing it via a WiFi repeater over that disatnce through two or more walls will probably not work very well.

Thank  you :) this would be the easiest option, but there are lots of vehicles on the road that separate the 2 house, the cat 5/6 STE/UTP might not survive that even in a conduit.

  14. Hi all :),

I Would like to share a single Internet connection (3BB ADSL) between 2 houses.

They are about 20m apart (line of  sight)

Has anyone done this in Thailand? any contacts for technicians up in Chiang  Mai?

Will be most  grateful for any  input :)

    TIA

Why don't they park inside their own property ?

Also a lot depends on how wide your frontage is and how much space you need to enter and exit etc.

Never seen anyone parking int their  own property, there might be some law against it? :)
Very wide  in 1 house, narrow on the other 2 houses
