  1. I can understand a small difference in case count, but the MOPH has reported between 1600 and 2500 cases per day to Worldometers for each of the past 30 days (see attachment). There is close agreement on the number of deaths. Seems strange. Thailand Covid 18 Aug 2022.docx
  2. Is this correct? The new "test and go" procedure requires an incoming person to 1) have a valid PCR test within 72 hours of departure 2) take a PCR test upon arrival. 3) wait for the result. This may require an authorized quarantine hotel. 4) If negative, you may go about the country 5) On day 5, report for another PCR test and wait in a controlled area for the result This doesn't seem like test and go!
  3. Agree with Jacko45k. The figures need to be accurate. When they are very low, then it's ok to drop reporting. But, don't hide the figures when they show a growing problem. For now, honest figures are worthwhile.
  4. THE OECD does a comprehensive analysis called the PISA test (Program for International Student Assessment) to determine English proficiency (plus Math and Science) among some 75 countries for 15 year old students. The most recent ones were 2015 and 2018, with a major one planned for 2025 to evaluate digital literacy. Thailand comes out as significantly below the mean country score (mean about 485, and Thailand 393, and top score of 555 from 4 regions of China and the country of Singapore). Thailand was in the same group as Saudi Arabia, Peru, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and North Macedonia. Only 8 countries were below Thailand. This has been the situation going back some 30 years.
  5. It would be helpful if they specified the conditions they need to allow reopening. But, TIT so, no information forthcoming. It's difficult to rationalize why some areas allow bars to reopen but not Pattaya.
  6. Let's see, 63 countries, including the 4 most populous in the world (PRC, India, USA, Indonesia). Seems like this probably includes about 50 of the 60 most populous countries (not including Brazil, Pakistan, Nigeria, Mexico, Ethiopia, Congo, Iran or Russia). Rough estimate this is about 6 Billion people out of 8 B.
  7. Somewhat misleading report. As of 2 days ago (28 Oct) 42% of the entire population is fully vaccinated and 17% have 1 vaccination. One month ago these figures were 30% and 17%. Each day, +1% of the population is being vaccinated putting it at the top of the world for the past 2 weeks. The rollout to 12-17 year olds is moving ahead nicely. 103M jabs have been administered thus far. Thailand has made good progress in the last two months with plans to exceed 70% by mid December. The opening to tourists is focused primarily on the fully vaccinated. Given how the tourism industry has been decimated, moving ahead carefully at this time seems good for the people of Thailand. It's not without some risks, but many steps have been taken.
  8. Yes, very misleading report. This didn't consider anything other than how often a site came up on a Google Search. Small countries would certainly be missed by many people. The search results did not indicate positive or negative outcomes. While at one time Thailand was considered one of the best places to retire, that position has dropped somewhat due to many factors - which you can easily research.
  9. I wonder how many ATK results are not reported? I've done it twice myself and didn't 'officially report the results'. Of those ATK results that are positive, what is the split between self managing and reporting to a hospital for a PCR test? There are likely many ATK test results that don't get included any where. Total tests reported an increase of only 1 million tests in 2-3 months? Data is not being collected and managed for informed decision making.
  10. As of 17 September 20.4% of the entire population has received 2 doses and another 20.3% has received 1 dose. At anything close to 700,000 jabs per day, Thailand will exceed 50% by the end of September! A reasonable goal by the end of October (if supplies hold up) is to be over 70%. With the program expanding to teenagers 12-17 years, they will have enough people wanting the vaccine.
  11. Agree, that Thailand has significantly picked up the pace in vaccinations. Aug 13 (7.2% fully vaccinated and 18.1% partially vaccinated) Sep 13 (17.5% fully vaccinated and 21.4% partially vaccinated) Hoping that this continues!
  12. Out of 356,000 foreigners vaccinated, 80% (285,000) are from Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and China and 20% (71,000 as expats from Japan, UK, US, France, Germany, Australia, ....)
  13. Try surveying foreigners about the many ways they have been discriminated against - even those who pay significant income taxes. 1. higher cost for medical care 2. immigration delays (e.g. foreigners delayed trying to return to Thailand) 3. 2nd in line for vaccines - nothing available at government hospitals for foreigners 4. automatically guilty in any accident (deep pockets!) 5. higher prices for entrance fees at many venues (national parks, water parks, etc.) 6. foreigners not allowed to own land or a company (this is discrimination even if many countries do this) 7. golf courses and hotels with special rates only for Thai people 8. attaining permanent residency is extremely difficult 9. hefty insurance requirements exclusively for foreigners
  14. The way this announcement was published makes it look careless and sloppy. If a letter is 6 months old, but Asean Now considers is newsworthy on 22 July, they should clearly state why this is relevant today.
