My private health insurance monthly premium cost is killing me .
Interesting that the UK has a time limit on this thing. For comparison I mention the following. I am an American on Medicare still in the USA. Medicare would be useless in Thailand. I could stop Medicare if I moved to Thailand. If I returned to the USA with the intention of starting Medicare again, the rules are a bit vague. One agent says I could re start Medicare immediately upon returning to the USA but only if I had been out of the USA for 12 months. Another agent said nothing about any waiting period or away period. Also, a US citizen is charged a 10 % fee on the Medicare premiums for every year they do not start Medicare at the mandatory age of 65. It is not clear, but I assume they would also be charged 10% for each year they did not have Medicare even if they had originally started it, then stopped it.

I never said I thought they were likely to happen. But I have heard of them happening and they certainly are possible.

What was life like when you were 17?
That would be the year 1974. Born and raised in little town in Rhode Island. Had a very fun high school playing various sports in my Junior yearl. Some very good friends. Enjoyed camping and hiking in New Hampshire. Hanging out at a buddies summer house in New Hampshire and fooling around with the local girls who were quite stunning actually. Dad had just bought a deli and lounge which meant I had to quit my paying job at Burger Chef and now work long hours and most days of the week for no pay at the deli. Opening it in the morning, working through lunch, then returning on Friday and Saturday nights to close the Lounge at 1 AM. I still found time to work with a friend on various house projeccts, roofing, siding, etc where I actually got paid. Had some of the most enjoyable hours of my life jamming in our rock and roll band with my buddies. I was an OK guitar player. Did a few gigs. We have winters in Rhode Island and being indoors in the winter but warm and having good company and positive things to do were just great experiences. Heck, one of my friends even had a huge HO model train setup we worked on while listening to the great music of that era. Another friend had slot cars and we had a weekly race night in his basement. Just good simple clean fun hanging out. No drugs, no drunks. Sounds silly today maybe but the homes were great, the parents of my friends were great. All withing one mile walking distance which we walked to and from. I used to cut across the wannamoisett golf course at night which was very peaceful and good for star gazing also as there were no street lights on the golf course so the sky was relatively dark. I was on the cross country team and the wrestling team and was getting pretty good. Was in fantastic shape. At the end of the year I stumbled into Tae Kwon Do which I pursued on and off for 20 years which has helped me greatly through the years (now 68). Enjoyed working on my and my friend's cars. None of us came from money so we did all our own car work. Several of us had 1930 antique model A fords we were restoring. Oh what fun. Going to the first spring big car auctions and shows were something to look forward to after the winter has railed off. Many of you can not understand how fun and exhilirating spring can be after a winter unless you have lived in winter areas. back to some weeks in New Hampshire in the summer swimming in the lake, going fishing, skateboarding down the country road at crazy high speeds with lookouts posted at the intersection to warn us of any cars coming. Mrs Vartanian, my best friend's mom. RIP. My second mother in a sense. Riding my friend's mini bike down at the reservoir. Simpler times for sure.

Thaksin's Health Declines: Hypertension, Hair Loss, Insomnia
Actions have consequences. Once one makes several millions of dollars then dives into politics, large unusual financial dealings, etc. things get complicated. I guess it is hard to just quit the race and be comfortable once one has "made it"

Bangkok Bank/iBanking No New Applications
One easily identified device may be nice for many if not most, but many people use different devices, or travel and use different computers, i.e. like in an internet shop which granted are rarer these days. In addition, some institutions really struggle when one logs in from different networks, servers, locations, etc. I think the whole remote logging in security thing is going to bounce around and go back and forth and change a lot. As for biometrics, facial recognition, finger print types of things, it is not hard to recall any number of movies and a few real life incidents or demonstrations where one is forced to place their finger here or there, or is forced to face his device, etc. Recall the Myth busters episode where they fooled a thumb print device by using scotch tape to lift a finger print, make a photo copy of it and then used it successfully. And some people do change their appearance quite a bit with beards, etc.

Over 3% of Thais Struggling in Poverty Amid Heavy Debt
I never said the USA was so important. I mention it because the USA is supposedly by most objective measures a developed country, yet has a much higher poverty rate than Thailand

ABC Pulls 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' Over Charlie Kirk Remarks
I had never heard of Mr Kirk, and I still know nothing about him except I think he is far right? Anyway, if one doesn't like a show, then just do not watch it

All Newborns Are Forced to Get Dangerous Hepatitis B Vaccine
I can imagine getting A and B later ( I did). I was not aware that B is or was mandated for newborns. I was born in1957 when there was no such vaccine

Should immigration know where your money originates as income?
In general I say no, they should not know at least not in any specific detail where your income originates. But if one is getting a long term stay in a country, I think a country has some right and reasonable expectation to check on a person. They do check on criminal activities, warrants, etc. Certainly check that income is steady and that the person is not a risk of over staying or running out of money. Monthly transfers prove very little. They do not indicate steady or sustainable income. One could have just sold something, their car or whatever and are spending the money down which will run out.

Thai Education Under Scrutiny After Poor Global Ranking
My first visit to Thailand was in 2004. 14 trips since . Last one in 2019. On my first trip in 2004 I was in general impressed with the general education of the Thais I met. They could read and write and do basic math. I am in America and was born in 1957, The high school kids I now see and hear can barely form complete sentences. So in a relative way, I thought the Thailand education level for what I will call "blue collar" working class seemed pretty good.

Powerball at 1.4 billion USD - All about Powerball Mania!
A few years ago I was sitting in a cafe on Soi Yume behind the Big C. watched dozens of physically handicapped people head towards Big C. Some were limping, some on crutches, some in wheel chairs, some limping while helping push others etc. I think from the redemptorists organization place? Anyway, they were smiling as they went. Gosh seeing that, that would be one of the first places I would help. Then many orphanages, home for wayward angels, etc.

Thai General Dismisses Coup Rumours Amid Political Transition
Well, history sides on the side of there eventually being a coup. they do not have a steady constitution that mandates any sort of regular free elections. And even when it does, the coups just ignore the constitution and make up another one

Why Do Vaccines Cause the Illnesses They Prevent
Not all vaccines cause the illness. But all stimulate the body's immune system. Some vaccines use inert pieces of the disease's proteing (polio vaccines are a good example of this), these cannot ever cause the disease but can trigger an immune response. Some vaccines do use live but weakened strains of the disease which can cause mild forms of the disease

Beaches with waves
Karon beach has had some decent waves every time I went and was able to do some body surfing. Varies quite a bit depending on weather, off shore storms or fronts etc. But it is a very wide and open beach.

Day trips from Patong to other beach areas - where to go ?
I think Karon beach is wonderful. Just wade out into the water, turn around and look up and you can see the big white buddha. Very surreal. Walking from Karon towards Kata beach there are then many very nice restaurants and side streets with bars etc..

Day trips from Patong to other beach areas - where to go ?
I have taken the ferry from Phuket over to Ao Nang. Beautiful ride as you motor past several small islands, rock outcroppings etc. Ao Nang is on the quiet side and very pretty to visit, but not really a great beach. Of course you could then take the long tail boat and motor around the point to Railey beach which is pretty

Retirement visa using the monthly income
I recommend you try to transfer maybe the middle of the month. The reason is you then have many days to check that the transfer went through and was encoded properly, i.e. as a foreign transfer in, etc.
