  1. Another option is ask the TOT office at the corner of the ring road and the main Ubon - Warin Rd. They are located just near the chinese school and not far from Big C. I have friends who live 100 kms from Ubon and as its more rural than Ubon city TOT will be the only supplier. I tried to google your village name and came up with something near the Amnat Charoen road. I would have thought TOT would have something around there. Good luck as I know how frustrating a slow internet connection would be.

  2. Go into the 3BB office in the SK building in Ubon and ask them if you can get an internet connection. No point asking the linesmen as they are only laying the line where they are told to. We got our 3BB transferred into our new house and they ran the cable from a reasonable distance with no problems.

  3. I went with my brother to the immi office a couple of months ago. We parked across the road as well. As we had to wait to be dealt after lunch we had a feed at the restaurant where we parked the car. Not too bad at all. It wasnt all vegetarian stuff as I had a chicken curry. What a madhouse CM immi is compared to the Phibun Mangsahan office that I use down here in Ubon. You might get 5 farangs per day there plus a few Lao.

  4. Hi sezzo

This thread may be of some assistance.

Thanks for the link tig28. I do know that the only hospital in Ubon that has the facilities to check a pacemaker is Sapahsit Hospital which is a government hospital and is always overflowing with patients and obviously overworked doctors. I have had dealings with some doctors who work there and I have not been impressed. Their level of english is not good enough for me to feel satisfied that I am being told everything that I need to know. I said in my previous post there is a lot of things that get lost in translation when dealing with Thai doctors in rural posts. Therefore I have no problems going to BKK to see a cardiologist for a check up. I will be in BKK in Apr for a few days prior to going to Vietnam for a holiday so I thought I would have a check up done then. Getting stuff locally is preferable but I would rather spend a few extra baht and have a high level of reassurance in getting things explained to me to my satisfaction.

    Appreciate the info

  5. Yes I have got my pacemaker ID card in my wallet at all times. I was just hoping that someone may have some experience or advice for me. Not to worry I will contact my cardiologist in Oz. BTW I will be making an appointment with a cardiologist in the new year for annual checkup. As I am in Ubon I will probably have to go to BKK to see a cardiologist, does anyone have any recommendations for me. I prefer one who has good english skills as there is only so much my wife can translate for me.

    Thanks

  6. I had a pacemaker inserted in 2009 due to a heart block and everything is fine. My cardiologist in Oz says everything is fine and to continue on with life. I am now living over here in Ubon Ratchathani where we have a farm. I have got one of thos brush cutters with the handlebars which I dont like using and am looking at buying a backpack brushcutter where the engine is carried on your back on a harness.

Im a bit concerned whether the close proximity of the engine to my pacemaker may cause some changes to the pacemaker settings. I avoid the walk through metal detectors at airports etc but wondering if the brushcutter might cause similar problems.

    Thanks

  7. I have been treated at Rutnin for an ongoing glaucoma problem for years and find the experience there to be excellent. I agree with Sheryl and you might feel more comfortable as one of the mentioned western hospitals with a US trained opthomologist. That being said...

Dr. Roy Chumdermpadetsuk. M.D is US trained and is on the staff at Rutnin. He is a specialist tho and might not see you as he only deals with certain eye problems. I would call and ask first

I have been a patient of Dr Roys initially in 2009 when I had a detached retina whilst here on holidays. It was extremely reassuring to be treated and operated on by him as his english is perfect and he goes to extreme lengths to ensure he explains everything to you. I had to spend 4 days in Rutnin after the operation and found that the hospital was more than I expected with comfort, service and I had 100 % confidence in the place. I had a previous retinal detachment operated and treated on at Bumrangrad Hospital and IMO Rutnin is far more superior in service and cost.

I have also been seeing him in the past 4 months now that I am living back in Thailand to treat swelling of the retina. Once again I am more than happy with his manner and his treatment.

  8. Steve,

I ordered some shirts through Rivers in Ballarat and they arrived within 1 week of the order placed. The only thing was that I had to pay 800 baht customs/tax at the post office.

  9. I had some shoes repaired in Ubon a couple of weeks ago. He was recommended to me by a friend who says "If he cant fix them then nobody can". His shop is located on Saphasit Rd on the opposite side of the road from the hospital. He is either on the same block or next block as you are going away from the city along Saphasit Rd. Best of all he was very reasonably priced. Hope you can find him.

  10. Thanks I keep doing that also but they either dont respond to emails or property is long gone well before the listing is removed. But thanks for help

I found the same problem when I moved back to Thailand last year. Best thing to do is find a cheap comfortable hotel and spend some time driving around the moo baans looking for places. You will eventually find something. We looked for a few weeks and got one to rent for heaps cheaper than your budget but then again it was in Ubon Ratchathani.

Good luck from another ex-digger living over here on the military pensions

  11. You can apply for your new 12 month extension up to a month before it expires. This was explained to me when I just extended my visa in Feb this year. On the immigration website it states that you can do your 90 day reporting up to 15 days prior to or up to 7 days after the required date. After the 7 days after you could be liable to a 2000 baht fine which two of my friends have had to pay.

  12. Lets face it...........milage allowance....lunch allowance....away from base allowance........no other way to go smile.png

Not good for us Pattaya dwellers who will have to trail to Bangkok to submit and collect notarization. Lets hope that they can do it within the same day, otherwise this will be a problem for us non retiree's.

Think yourself lucky. Australians hav e to travel from wherever they are to BKK to get the income letter. I live in ChiangRai now. At least the British Embassy will do them by mail.

Harry, I was up in Chiang Mai recently and my brother got his Proof of Income letter from the Australian consulate there. He used the letter for his 12 month extension on retirement grounds. No probs from Immigration in CM. Save heaps on travelling to BKK

  13. I bought a 6610 about 7 years ago primarily for working our farm but also for a time we were contracting it out for working other peoples farm. Apart from regular maintenance and a handful of minor engine repairs (no more than 25k baht) it has been working trouble free and a very dependable workhorse. It has definately been money well spent. We have a fair sized farm and it has been used on rice paddies, rubber plantation, tapioca fields and general earthmoving/clearing work and it has done all the jobs with ease. I was thinking a few years ago about trading it in for a smaller kubota but glad that we kept this one.

You would be mad to sell or trade for a kubota, not even in the same league.

Massey Fergusons made in brazil are now being touted up here as a rival for the Ford.look ok and look very strong and ggood deals if you buy direct from the factory.

If you want to sell your ford what kind of price you want?

As I said, it was a few years ago that I thought about trading it in. As we are now just using it for our own farm, it is needing less maintenance as when it was contracted out. I dont think I will get rid of it because it is just too handy to have around. We did have some local guy ask my wifes mother if he could buy it. MIL gave him our phone number but that was the last we heard. Dont really know what it is worth.

  15. .... I now have the current size of display as the default (100%) which is too big. How do I make this smaller.

You need to change the screen resolution, not the "display size".

Right-click on the desktop and the menu will appear. For modern screens of a decent size, 1920*1080 would be a standard setting. A lower setting would be more suitable for a smaller screen. The smaller the numbers the larger things will appear on-screen.

You will normally get the best results if the Windows resolution matches the native resolution of your screen (see the screen manual).

Changing the "display size" has the annoying side-effect of making text in some dialogue boxes too large for the box, so I find it best to always leave it on 100%.

    Thanks mate, that worked perfectly.

  16. A teacher told me 7th Day Adventists are planning a new international school. Anyone else heard anything about that? I believe their schools in BKK are supposed to be good.

Here is some info on the SDA school I picked up at Ubon Rak Hospital. Kindergarten 1-3 is ages 3-6 and there is also a pre-school for 2 year olds. 30,000b per semester starting in May. All foreign teachers teaching American curriculum with a teacher to student ratio of 1:15 not counting a teaching assistant. A Thai teacher will offer Thai language. If I understood correctly on the phone, they do plan to offer programs for older kids in subsequent years. Good deal, now my kids will learn the proper way to say "z" as opposed to "zed." cheesy.gif

I had a family member whos kid went to a SDA school in Oz and the word "brainwashing" comes to mind. Hopefully I wont cop some flak for saying this on the forum but it was one of the reasons I chose YES2 for my stepson. As he is a thai buddhist I didnt want him to attend a christian religious based school for them to try and "change" or "convert" him. I have seen this in other friends and family from the Ubon area who have sent their stepkids to either Assumption or Ave Maria.

Pardon me if I have offended anyone in my post

  17. Gday guys,

First of all thanks very much for you inputs. I am now back online with the desktop which is now seeing/recognising the router/modem. I have managed to receive all the updates from Windows and hopefully everything is now going to work allright.

I now have a new query for you. When the new windows was installed, foolishly I increased the size of the display to 125 percent due to some eye issues that I have. I now find that its too big and want to reduce it to the normal size. I have been through the control panel/appearance and personalisation/display and I now have the current size of display as the default (100%) which is too big. How do I make this smaller.

    Thanks again
