  1. Hull has a reputation of being lenient, time to tighten up. However, there seems to be an inaccuracy here on Marriage O visas financial requirements. I understand it to be 400,000 in the bank and for the past 5 years I've successfully renewed my marriage visa at CM Immigration showing 400k in our bank for at least 3 months. 800,000 is the amount for retirees, so clearly Hull have got it wrong or there's suddenly a new stipulation for marriage visas which would be big news. Need to clarify this!!!

  2. Aren't these Khasoad guys pro Reds/PT and against Abhisit/Dems in general? Might that have affected the way they have translated Abhisit's words?

Yes, that's about right, and I get the impression from the editorial style that the faring who is behind this (and it comes across definitely as a faring) isn't very professional as a reporter or journalist.

Any way, whichever way you want to say it, 'bitch' is about the right vocabulary for politics in this error, I've heard a lot worse from red politicians. I'd certainly use such a word to describe someone who is pretending to be democratic but is as tricky as her brother when it comes to being sincere and truthful.

  3. CaWOW was about the best, if you got one of those lifetime memberships for 15k like I did, of course that's why they closed down, pity.

It's all about convenience, I'm now using Powerhouse, it's OK but needs to be bigger since it's sucked up lots of the CaWOW crowd. Staff are nice, machines could be more extensive. No hard sell, it's convenient in Nimmin area, considering traffic in CM is becoming a problem. For that reason I didn't consider FT. Platinum seems to open and close. I've had three gyms close down on me in 5 years here.

If you are in the Hang Dong area, consider the gym at Sansaran housing project, on Samoeng road, think I'll move then when my PH expires.

20,000 for gym membership is too expensive. Also, there's no perfect fit for good gym plus decent pool. Better to use separate facilities.

  4. This argument comes up once a week with plenty of know-it-alls giving poor advice.

    To be clear

    1. the MoE does not monitor TEFL courses in Thailand

    2. The TCT does not make a TEFL cert a requirement for a teachers' licence

    3. Regardless of what the TCT etc state, it's the recruiter that counts and they will prefer to see some legitimate TEFL training on your CV

    4. Without a proper TEFL cert you will be limited in your opportunities to teach in other countries.

I'm surprised at the number of people entering the ESL professional without bothering to get any formal training, as well as those already in it who insist 'you don't need a TEFL'. (I'm glad my kids aren't taught by them).

There is no such thing as an 'official' TEFL, but there are many good TEFL courses out there which are respected by recruiters, you should do your homework on which ones are good.

SEE TEFL is one of the respectable ones.

The ASEANTEFL mentioned here is new and looking at their site they seem to lack credibility, for one, it doesn't even say clearly where the course is run.

  5. Sadly, all this movement of money and recessionary fallout seems to be perfectly timed in favour of the Shinwatra govt. He's always been on the lucky end of the economic growth here, and the only time it went flat in the last decade (2009 recession) was when he was out of power briefly, the last 18 months have seen false boosts here from this dollar movement, that is now about to change. And with the rice subsidy debt and other borrowing, he might be on the cusp of a huge wake up call. Poor Yingluck, it will be on her watch and she'll be out of her depth to deal with it. v

  6. If this guy didn't have access to corrupt, idiotic and gullible military personal in banana republics he would never have got as far as he did. Can't blame someone entirely for selling a hoax, it wasn't very elaborate or deceptive, anyone with half a brain would have worked out there's nothing to them and there's no consistent proof of success.

  7. Tourist numbers are based on immigration stats of arrivals at borders, not entirely accurate since they record all the expats coming and going. But when you consider that the number of Chinese visiting this year doubled in the first six months from 1-2 million, I think the TAT are correct. As someone in the tourist industry the amnesty bill worries me very much, the airport saga in 2009 was a fiasco. Be it on Yingluck's head.
