  1. Anyone out there experiencing mail problems with a earthlink mail account. Mine stopped working 1 hr ago. Cannot access support or webmail, these websites will not open-all other websites ok-

    Using truemove internet

  2. I would not buy an Apple in Thailand. Support is not as good. Accessories are more expensive. Repairs and service not as good. Buy one in your home country. Just paid 2900 baht for new power adapter. Can buy in USA for 1300 Baht also new battery 5300 baht- 2000 baht in USA. Thai key board mentioned. Support technicians English is at times difficult to decipher. Highly recommend Apple product however.

  3. I lost my passport also with a double entry tourist visa. I went to immigration to have the double entry transferred to my new passport, they said they could only stamp the new passport with 1 entry. They had to go back and look through computer data to see my original entry, which they transferred to my new passport. I lost the 2nd entry and had to make monthly visa runs (this was back when you could get 30 days. Unless things have changed you lost your second entry and will have to make a "Tourist visa" run if you want to stay longer. They will extend the first entry however 30 days for 1900 baht, so you have time to figure out what you will do.

  4. The city state of Bangkok is the only place that really has any jobs. Most university graduates end up in Bangkok. Most construction or media jobs are in Bangkok. Unfortunately the rich elite of Bangkok resist investing in other parts of Thailand such as Issan or South Thailand. They like their City Kingdom, from which they can run the their colonies of South Thailand and Issan.

Naturally yes, most Thai's will end up working in Bangkok, the beautiful people of course.

  5. Just a thought: Before paying good money, you might want to check that your battery doesn't fall under one of the recalls Apple had on batteries in recent years. If so, you could get a new one even if the normal warranty has already expired. Check the Apple website or stop by the official service center located at Siam Discovery (I think on the 4th floor bear the outside elevator). I got a new battery for my 3 year old Macbook Pro that way recently.

There is a recall yes, but it is not available in Thailand. I asked.

  6. If your plans include leaving and returning to Thailand with in a few months, I would just wait and purchase new battery in your home country. My Macbook battery has also expanded after 3.5 years of use. It's expansion was causing problems with the track pads, due to pressure. My Thai g/f called all the Mac outlets in Bangkok and the cheapest was 4800 baht for a battery with only 2 months guarantee. You can purchase a Macbook battery in the USA for 1500 baht with a year guarantee, I am returning to the USA in 2 months so I am waiting to purchase there.Your expanding battery should still be working-mine is working fine. I just taped in in ( not using the lock-in dial next to battery. If I lock in in it puts pressure on my trackpad. Just put the battery in and apply tape. It will bulge out a bit but will work fine. If you cannot wait then you will have to pay 4800 baht with a 2 month guarantee

  7. BTW, Good luck to the sailors of the Royal Thai Navy on this first-ever tasking and congratulations on the decision to join this very worthwhile cause.

Yes, best wishes to them and I hope they all return safely. I guess for some people it's just one more opportunity to bitch & moan . Of course here on TV, Thailand bashing is a 24/7 undertaking.

They deserve every bit of the bashing. The naval venture may be worthwhile, but there more worthwhile causes on the home front, such as promoting democracy and not military political influence and power. If a government needs the military such as the now Ruling Democrats (sic) to keep them in power then there is no democracy or freedom.

  8. "Yet another reason why generals buy weapons is because they can. The military still plays a central political role in many Southeast Asian countries. The obvious example is Burma, a military dictatorship where defense spending devours perhaps a third of its gross national product. Another example is the battered democracy of Thailand. Since 2006, when the military toppled an elected government, defense spending has more than doubled to $5.5 billion. It is tempting to see this as the price the current Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, must pay to ensure his generals' loyalty."

The Thai military is just showing off the new hardware they blackmailed out of Abhisit to protect him keep him and keep in power.

    "Battered Democracy" is a understatement.

  9. Why don't you just come here on a normal 1 entry tourist visa 60 +30 and then make a visa run at the end of that to Laos and get a double entry tourist visa. Then you can avoid all the hassle of meeting your consulate requirements, By the way I have had both double and triple entry tourist visas and was never asked for what they are asking you to do, but maybe your Swedish consulate is being difficult for some reason. I have never been asked to provide visa run info for tourist visa and I think most Thaivisa members would concur with that.

  10. All Thai banks charge 150 baht for withdrawals. As for Barclays they should only be charging you a 1% international transfer fee. To avoid the 150 baht ThaI ATM Charge use Aeon atms, about 100 machines in bangkok. Google Aeon Bangkok for locations. Opening a Thai bank account can be easy or difficult depending on the bank and your visa type. Might be more problem than it is worth for only a 3 month stay.

  11. I don't think you have to look very far to realize some people are in fact financially and socially better off than others

It is their perogative to act anyway they want, we all can

People act this way all over the world, this is nothing unique to Thailand

That is true. It is a worldwide human trait. People can act anyway they want that is also true, but that does not automatically make it a desired trait. Being a ex-pat in Thailand however seems to acerbate the feeling of superiority. What is is about Thailand that generates this?? Phuket has a lot of wealthy farangs, but it has a lot of non-wealthy people also living the Island life and more power to those who can find a way to retire here. I for one relish some ex-pat being offish to me, which only confirms my thinking. We should all go to the Wat and stay there in a homeless way for a few months to get a perspective of life. That will not happen of course, but we all come from the same place and we all go to the same place. Just be happy you are in Phuket laying on the beach with your girl and I love motorbikes in Phuket, but I hate them in Bangkok- HAHA

  12. Thai banks and Supermarkets hardly pay these front line clerks a livable wage. Probably 6000 to 8000 baht a month. Their lack of enthusiasm is understandable. I am sure they all appreciate your help when things get confusing however.

Parked my car between 2 Porsche Cayenne SUV's at Top Foods worth about 4,000,000 baht a piece the other day. The upper echelon does well in Thailand mainly through the poor wages paid to the majority of Thai employes. In the USA people bitch about CEO's making 250 times more than the wages of a regular employee. In Thailand it must be 1000 times more. It makes for "a every man for himself attitude" than helps spawn the deep corruption in Thai society.

Answer to you Question-Often-but it happens more often in the USA with billing errors and having to call 5 times to get it fixed. Definitely not hilarious.

  13. If you bought in the last year you should have "free Mac Support". If you bought in Thailand they should have given you a support number when you bought it. Mac support is very good, but I am not sure about that in Thailand and if they have english speaking techs. Questions like these can easily be answered by support staff.

  14. Worked the Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands for 20 years. Terrible seas, small ships, big ships. Majestic place but always put a sense of fear into you.

To this day I still love the Sea and cannot stay away from it. I live in Kata Beach, love looking at the sea, love feeling it, smelling it, love the fresh fish and the people working it. Tried Chiang Mai area it is much cheaper there. but it did not feel right, To each his own

I do like riding the motorbike around the island. I am not sure one can really leave the sea behind, maybe that is why you are looking for a fellow sailor in the Mountains of North Thailand. May the wind always blow your way.
