Thai man accuses RTP police chief of scapegoating in rape case
SABloke replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
That's the first part that made my jaw dropped. It then dropped some more when later in the report it mentions that the case was dismissed by another court, which only resulted in his sentence being reduced? WTAF. So we've learned two bizarre things: 1) rape penalties are ridiculously light and 2) you can have a case dismissed but remain in prison. -
Embattled deputy police chief claims PM has abused authority
SABloke replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Was he prepared to pay for the promotion to his current rank though (not as expensive) or was it purely a merit promotion? -
162 people killed, 1,279 injured in road accidents in past four days
SABloke replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I've never heard them claim that's it's higher, but they always dub it the "7 deadly days" to make the people think about driving safer. Labling some days as deadly isn't the same as saying they're more dangerous than other days. -
GHB Home Loan for Thai Abroad (Factual?)
SABloke replied to SABloke's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
That link only references Thai people working abroad, not unemployed spouses using foreign spouse income (as is mentioned in the article). -
Referee attack at Thai boxing match sparks sport integrity debate
SABloke replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Interesting take, since the paragraph preceding this one states... How can you pay out on an outcome that has been officiated yet, if not for some sort of pre-arranged fixing? -
Does anybody have any insight into the veracity of the claims made in this article? Anecdotal reports on this forum used to point to GHB not wanting to have anything to do with foreigners. However, this article references loans being issued to Thai nationals abroad based on their foreign spouses income (which would be very handy). The GHB website itself does not seem to have this option, but according to some sources in Thai it is possible. https://amazingthaiproperty.com/en/38948/

Because most of the brainwashed populace inherently believe that some individuals are literally above the law and have semi-deity status. They do not understand what a constitutional monarchy is. Many people forget that despite being "above politics" there were changes made to the constitution AFTER the referendum vote last time - totally illegal, but done by a god so it was overlooked. -
PM Srettha: Legalise casinos to save Thailand’s economy
SABloke replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Not true at all. Gambling is not legal during a wedding or funeral (just because you see it happening doesn't mean it's legal) Gamblin is, however, legal at horse racing (which is indicative of how nonsensical many laws in Thailand are. -
Police reform may be easier than everyone thinks
SABloke replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's just a typical Tulsathit Taptim word salad. Save your braincells and avoid reading his dribble in the future. -
What happened to reporting? Remember the "good old days" where pertinent information in an article would be included e.g. "Kick is a streaming service where users blah blah blah". You know, just a sentence to ensure that the readers actually understand the rest of the article. Also, are Jino and Johnny Somali the same person, or is the Johnny Somali paragraph a hard segue referencing yet more information not fully explained. The rule is: if your reader needs to use Google to understand most of your article, you've done a <deleted> job.

No, I mean that the requirements for getting permanent residency is easier when one is married. I am not talking about becoming a Thai citizen (which incidentally is easier when married too.) I am responding to Mike Lister who is conflating two separate legal statuses that can be held in Thailand: Permanent Residency and Thai Citizenship. They are not the same thing at all.

If you are a permanent resident, you never have to apply for annual extensions, reentry permits or do 90 day reporting etc. You can't, however, vote or buy land. The process is different if you are married vs single e.g. if you are single you need to have an income of 80,000 THB per month whereas if you are married it is only 30,000. The exact requirements are updated every few years.

If you willing participate in this incarnation of the senate, you are complicit. Nobody forced these senators to take the role, but they all know and understand how the senate has unbalanced power. Not voting "yes" in a false show of neutrality does not wash your hands of the injustice committed by the senate (and its masters).

Undercover amulet group busted for illegal firearm sales in Samut Prakan
SABloke replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
"The proceeds were used to purchase kratom juice and cannabis for consumption." The obligatory "kratom and cannabis bash" slipped into the caption. So we're not expected to believe that the proceeds were used for anything else like food or clothes or petrol or booze or literally dozens of expenses that we all have (criminals included)?? Absolute trash reporting from KhaoSod. -
Rocky start for Thailand’s latest alcohol tax reform
SABloke replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
VAT is paid at point of sale (retail), but the wholesalers and/or retailers pay import duties when they take possession of goods. -
Rocky start for Thailand’s latest alcohol tax reform
SABloke replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well, one would assume that the current stock on the shelves in your local shop were purchased weeks or months prior, so can't expect the retailers to just take a loss for your benefit. However, it would be interesting to see by how much prices go down in 7/11 et al next month. I will be surprised if they go down at all.- 63 replies

They aren't even talking about getting rid of it, just amending it to be more appropriately used.

Over 400 Thai firms suspected of foreign nominee operations
SABloke replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
So what's the point of including it in the article then? It's just smeering the guy's name more for no reason. (No, I don't condone his behaviour or think hes' an angel) -
PM Srettha revs up plans for Thailand’s Formula One debut
SABloke replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There was supposed to be a race in 2015, but that never happened due to legislation banning street racing in Bangkok (was never going to anyway, the whole "plan" was wishful thinking from the start) The dream: https://www.eurosport.com/formula-1/thailand-now-aiming-for-f1-race-in-2015_sto3539527/story.shtml The reality: http://en.espn.co.uk/f1/motorsport/story/109939.html
