  1. Which country was this? Definitely not Thailand as most EV owners here know.
  2. Scam or not, my EV costed me as much as an equivalent ICEV. Drives better, performs better and costs less to run. Scam me any day I say lol.
  3. I am that poster you are referring to. I don’t see how @Bandersnatch’s comment is arrogant. It’s just pointing out facts.
  4. I’m extremely impressed that as a non-EV owner, you can so confidently predict what EV owners here are going to do in the near future. Sadly though, you couldn’t be more wrong. As an EV and ICEV owner, I can tell you that I will be highly unlikely to sell my EV to go back to an ICEV. I would be foolish to do that, considering that an EV has so many more advantages over an ICEV.
  5. In EV charging terms, 50kW is considered rapid which is faster/more rapid/quicker/speedier than fast charging so your first statement is technically correct in letter but not in spirit. Technically again, you are also correct in saying that it would take 1-2 hours to charge most EVs from 0-100%. However, this is highly uncommon as most genuine EV owners know (I’m referring here to public charging on road trips). The most efficient way to charge on a road trip is from 10-20% to 80%. On a PEA 50kWh charger, this would take about 40 mins or so. If charging from 30%-80%, the time taken would be even less so 50kW is plenty quick enough. Since you drove a Tesla for a few years in BKK, iirc, how often did you have to wait 1-2 hours at a public charging station to charge your Tesla?
  6. One thing you are overlooking is that such events are great opportunities for the pretties to get themselves one or more sugar daddies. It’s not degrading at all, it’s their livelihood and most that I know are satisfied with their career choice.
  7. I don’t see any EV zealots on this forum. A few enthusiastic owners like @KhunLA, @JBChiangRai and myself who are very happy with our purchase but we don’t tell everyone that they should also own one. Posters like @Bandersnatch who believe in renewables and willingly share their knowledge and experience with others without condemning non-believers (unlike some anti-EVers). All of us were (and some still are) ICE owners so you can hardly cal our perspective skewed. I put it to you that it’s those that haven’t or don’t own an EV that has a skewed perspective about EV ownership.
  8. Envy is one of the seven cardinal sins and is not a pretty sight. If you had paid more attention in school, you might have had a better job and could now afford a better car and saved money in the process.
  9. I’m extremely disappointed that you hardly took any pictures of the models. I see only 2 or 3. Pretties I mean lol.
  10. We EV owners are not arrogant at all. Maybe a bit more progressive thinking than the ICE diehards. We aren’t virtue signallers either although which part of less airborne pollution is a bad thing?
  11. Just because you live in a rented room on top of soi Buakhao doesn’t mean others do. Your post script is obviously made up. Unlike ICEVs, EVs don’t line up to charge. You wouldn’t really know there is queue even if there was one as the cars would just be parked up. Try harder.
  12. Before thinking of educating others, you should educate yourself first.
  13. This will be good for ASEAN countries, especially when the whole network is completed, connecting all the way down through Malaysia into Singapore. This will really open up trade and tourism for all these countries, especially since China has granted visa exempt status for both Malaysian and Thai citizens.
  14. Your oil industry math is totally nonsensical and illogical. Your provided data however does show that ICEVs are 11 times more likely to catch fire than EVs, that’s all.
  15. In all honesty, I think it’s your mind that’s closed. Thoughts and opinions, particularly those supported by credible sources and research, are welcome. They make for good, fun and interesting debates. You can also make up your own, not facts, but theories but they should at least be logical and pass the smell test at first look. SEA is a hot region so fires (which are also hot) are more frequent unfortunately does not pass aforesaid tests. EV infrastructure is lagging behind in some countries and places, I agree with you. But here in Thailand, it seems to be keeping pace quite nicely. I almost never ever see a queue for charging, probably because most drivers charge at home anyway. Open your mind and you will realise that your misconceptions about EVs are based on a wrong ICEV owner mindset and approach.
  16. I have a (genuine) question for those more mechanically inclined than I. After 5 years, does and internal combustion engine still perform like new? Similarly, does an electric motor perform like new? Let’s say 2 new cars, one an EV and one an ICEV and both drives exactly the same. After 5 years, would they both still drive the same or would one drive better than the other?
  17. Admittedly, transferring electrons in this way by the side of the road is going to take an eternity. But again, the chances of ever needing a roadside charge is practically zero. No EV owner with half a brain cell would run their EV down to such a low charge when charging at home is even easier than boiling water (for the uninitiated, boiling water requires the kettle to first be filled with water).
  18. So sad that after all this time and numerous posts, you still can’t get your head around the fact that unlike fossil fuel cars, most EV owners don’t have to make regular trips to charging stations to charge their cars. They get home, plug the car in and … that’s it. No sitting in the car for an attendant to come up to the car, no waiting for the tank to be filled, no waiting for the attendant to realise your car is filled, no handing over cash or card to the petrol attendant, no waiting for the board to be removed from the bonnet before you can drive away, no waiting for traffic to pass before you can rejoin the road… Boy, am I glad I have an EV.
  19. It’s been a while since I drove an ICEV or visited a petrol station. Since you’re obviously well versed in ICEs, I was wondering. If I had 70 kms to travel and my fuel range indicator shows 80 km of range left and the roads are choco blocked with start and go traffic, could I make it to my destination without having to turn off my air con or turning off the engine each time traffic comes to a halt? Or should I have engaged my brain earlier and made sure that I had sufficient range, taking into account that accidents could occur causing traffic jams, that it could rain causing flash floods etc?
  20. Are you sure you’re a teacher? UK passport holders already enter Thailand for free and have been doing so for many years. It’s called visa exempt.
  21. I wish the anti-EVers would make up their minds. Some says flooding causes EVs to burst into flames and we here we have move along Joe saying that it would cause it not to burn. It’s just another made up myth, like so many others.
  22. The majority of car parts, be it EV or ICEV are made from petrochemicals. Nothing wrong with that. Once made, EVs don’t require petrochemicals to operate but ICEVs do. Nothing wrong with that either. I was merely pointing out the hypocrisy of some that always mention cobalt as another reason to hate EVs. If one is genuinely concerned about child labour and cobalt mining, don’t buy a car and especially an ICEV.
  23. I wonder if this will translate to cheaper replacement costs for batteries, if required. It’s a shame that cobalt is still being used in the refining of gasoline and diesel for ICEVs. Maybe @ExpatOilWorker can tell us why this is necessary and how the oil companies ensure no child labour in their industry.
  24. This is Thailand. I doubt there will ever be a road user charge for EVs. The government won’t know how to devise such a scheme or how to implement it, ever. They can’t even phase traffic lights properly. A resale value of 0 for EVs are an ICE owners wet dream. Never gonna happen either.
