Is Bangkok really under threat from sea level rise?
kingstonkid replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
LOL you just have to go to ASOKE when there is a heavy rain but take your hip waders. I hae no dougbt wotj tje way things are managed in Bangkok that it will end up submerged. The city learnt nothing form the flood that we had a few years ago. They needed to raise the walls on the canals and set up a dredging schedule. The amount of junk that is in those canals along with the mud is going to be an issue. -
If the PPRP and military sabotage the past election I think it will be the end of all military control as well as it will hurt the PT. BJT will survive as it has it's own area and money pit. MFP or the new party will exceed everything. The only worry is that that present government waits so that it can install the new SENATE.

Just went through a repossession of a property that the ex GF vacated.. It took abut 3 years during that time if I had wanted to and was able to pay the hydro and water bill as well as condo fees there would not have been a problem. When the new owner wanted to get into the property the neighbors told him to come see me as I had all the keys. They had not even changed the lock on the door. As to being stolen by the bank considering the paperwork that I saw and the amount of info that was served by hand there was in fact ample warning and chance to go to court and argue it or hire a lawyer. I think as the Thai community gets older and people are forced to retire we are going to see more and more of these situations.

Pattaya Tourist Police Inspect Beach to Prevent Prostitution
kingstonkid replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
But again there is no law against buying a 2000 baht coffee at the coffee shop and going for a walk. The catch is that sex has to be in the equation and money changing hands for sex. -
Thaksin is the unofficial leader in that it was his money that created the party. It was his face that rallied the faithful. It would not surprise me that this deal is discussed and that paetong is out of the country to protect her. While the deal in the short term will give them a win it will be the end of the party as a powerhouse for democracy because it is joining with military parties.

An abolition of conscription will mean more inequality : Nipit
kingstonkid replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There is to a ceretain extent inequality. The best example of this was the U.S. during the Vietnam war. Kids with parents that had money either got into a university or found medical issues that the family doctor for a brown envelope would diagnose. In Thailand lets face it there are those that are conscripted and those that ARE CONSCRIPTED. I am sure you do not see soldiers that have money doing a lot of the GRUNT STUFF. They are probably the ones washing cars. What the Thai military has to do is get rid of conscription and concentrate on developing not only soldiers but tradesmen and women. -
12 years and have seen lock changes quite regularly especially with foreign tenants. No one has evicted his friend neighbor significant other. They are just stopping him form getting his stuff and access to a room he has not paid for.

I think it is more go over it and walk through it as to how it will be presented and then actioned. What questions do they think will be asked. What questions or concerns could the defence have. -
Chuwit: Secret Coalition Deal Includes Thaksin’s Return
kingstonkid replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I think the election showed him that he might be losing his touch -
LOL you have not been here long I take it. If his neighbor feels that he is being done wrong then simple solution is to call the cops and see who wins.

Illegal Telecommunication Devices Seized In Shopping Mall Raid
kingstonkid replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Let me guess this mall is close to the National Stadium. Wonder what they did about shops on other floors. -
What do you do while you are taking him to court to get the lock removed? The bottom line this is the landlord guaranteeing that the tenant is not going to pull a midnight move and leave you without the rent. A simple solution is to have all friends cousins and significant others PAY THE F'ING RENT. The landlord is not locking you out. HE?SHE is locking your stuff in. There is a difference.

We keep talking about how bad education is here
kingstonkid replied to kingstonkid's topic in Teaching in Thailand Forum
The challenge that I see kids having is that the Thai teachers that are teaching English have a very low understanding of English and only know what the Thai system teaches them. I have had a few of my students complain and correct the Thai teachers when they are wrong. The best was a P1 student that only listened and read English books and videos. Her English was at a high level for her age and when the teacher was wrong in her I am right you are wrong voice kept correcting the teacher. who complained and asked the mother to tell her daughter to quit. -
Chuwit: Secret Coalition Deal Includes Thaksin’s Return
kingstonkid replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Let the protests begin. When is the funeral for the PT. This will prove FINALLY that THAKSIN ONLY CARES ABOUT THAKSIN. He does not care about the country or Democracy. Bringing 2 military parties in with the PT again proves to the people that the PT s just as corrupt and military-run as all the other parties. The surprising thing is that my kiss assets are not involved. That being the case, if I was the PT I would be very worried about Anutin. The only question is IF this happens and it is an IF when will the protests start? Also, considering that Thaksin is not liked by a lot of the military how many of the people that said they would not vote for his daughter as PM will vote for a PT party that is bringing him back? -

kingstonkid replied to kingstonkid's topic in Teaching in Thailand Forum
Piern you obviously have not taught in a Thai school. Teachers both Thai and foreign are told what to teach. Students desire to learn doe snot matter. Yes I am definitley cynical you stay involved as a teacher in this system for 10 years and see how you feel. -

Personally, I can tell you that in most cases it is not the teacher's fault. First the kids do not want to learn in a lot of cases as they see no need to learn English. Second the schools themselves in a lot of cases do not care. I worked in a school in PT that told me that only 10% of the student's scores with me were going to count even though I was teaching them the same amount of time as the Thai teachers. Third is the material that they are given to use. Again I worked for a company that supplied the books and was teaching What your name to Mat 2 students is Mat 6 was where did you live. Things are geared to ensure it is easy with no need for the student to learn anything or worry ab out passing. In order to make sure that my students passed the week before the test we reviewed the possible questions. Schools do not care and in most cases the Foreign teacher is oly there for show so that they can make more money frm the parents. -
As an ex landlord I can tell you that sorry the tenant has not paid me does not sit well with banks. Also if others see you getting away with it they will too Get your sorry rear out of the apartment and do a late night move.

Yeah I agree an autopsy should be performed I am just hving trouble understanding why the UK would fly the body all the way back to there and then perform a second Autopsy instead of looking at thw the Thai governemtn did. Is this normal for the UK that all suspicious deaths get a second autopsy seems like a wste of resources. To me dead is dead If they have charged the guy with murder or such then that is it until the trial.

Texas high school postpones ceremony after only 5 seniors met graduation requirements https://www.foxnews.com/media/texas-high-school-postpones-ceremony-5-seniors-met-graduation-requirements Imagine 5 out of 33 students go through the 4 years of high school and finish with nothing. This is happening more and more in the states. I am not sure that a lot of countries in the west can harp at Thailands education system anymore.
