  1. The certification of you marriage certificate should only need to be done once. You then make a copy of it sign and date it and attach it to the extension application every year.

Who at immigration told you that a new certification was needed.

I use an agent and she told me they told her. I don't know who.

I think you got some wrong info or it is a misunderstanding since you are getting your info 2nd hand.

You do have the original certified marriage certificate don't you?. Did the agent show them your original?

Yes we have the original and last year we showed them and gave them a copy. This year I send photo of photocopy to agent to make sure was ok. I don't know who she showed at immigration but they are saying copy is too old.

  2. Hi,

Sorry for the use of incorrect terminology. Extension of stay should have been used.

I understand all that is required what I don't understand, and am asking about is, is why I need a certified, verified, validated or whatever the term should be copy of our marriage certificate with a recent date.

As I mentioned I had 2 copies done towards the end of 2013. Now they want a copy again (I accept this) but they are saying that copy is out of date and needs another copy with a more recent date.

Means a trip to BKK from CNX just to get stamp on a photocopy.

My wife and I moved to Chiang Mai 18 Months ago. After the initial 90 days I went onto a retirement visa for 1 year and my wife on a dependant visa also for 1 year.

You obtained extensions of stay based on retirement and being a dependent, not visas.

Did your wife's extension of stay expire while she was gone? If the extension of stay did not expire, did she get a re-entry permit to preserve the extension of stay? Is she re-entering (or has she re-entered) Thailand with a new non-imm O visa or on the re-entry permit?

It may make a difference if she is starting off on a visa and then applying for a new dependent extension of stay rather than just renewing an existing one that is still valid.

...so needs to get her 1 year dependant visa in about 2 months.

Is she currently back in Thailand and still on a valid dependent extension of stay that expires in two months or did she re-enter on a visa? If the latter, what kind of visa?

  3. Hi All,

My wife and I are moving to a town house and would like to get an awning made to suit and installed. Also a double security door made and fitted to our front door.

Can anyone suggest anyone in Chiang Mai to do these?

We are right next to the new Eastin Hotel in Nimmarnhemin Road.

    Thanks in advance.

  4. Hi All,

My wife and I moved to Chiang Mai 18 Months ago. After the initial 90 days I went onto a retirement visa for 1 year and my wife on a dependant visa also for 1 year.

I have renewed my retirement visa but the wife had to go back to Oz for a few months so needs to get her 1 year dependant visa in about 2 months.

The first time I had 2 copies of our marriage certificate verified by the Honorary Consular in Chiang Mai. Now according to immigration the copy is out of date and we need to get our certificate verified again. Apparently the consular can not do this now so we have to make a trip to Bangkok to do that.

I don't mind doing that for valid reason but this seems stupid rule as we only got married once and if we we separated my wife would not be wanting a dependant visa.

Any one else have this problem?

  5. I turned the water off at the front and ran the outside tap for some time. I could not hear a pump so assume submersible. I have only looked at the house once but could not see pump or filters anywhere. But after running tap for awhile I turned water back on and tank started filling.

Maybe previous tenant was Thai. There stomachs can seem to handle anything.

I will wait till I get keys then pump tank out and inspect.

  6. My wife and I are in the process of moving from one house to a smaller one in a Moo Baan off Nimmarnhemin. Where we currently are we has a stainless water tank and pump. We shower, wash and drink the water (boiled) from the tank.

When I looked at the next house I did not see a water tank and asked the agent, and of course, she did not know. Today I was there looking at the front are and noticed a square "hole" in the concrete. It has a raised concrete lip and a warped wooden cover was sitting inside the lip. I lifter the cover and it was full of water. I thought "grey" water as the water was grey. But I could see a float valve and on further investigation found that it was obviously the water tank.

We were both concerned at the colour of the water. There was a frog sitting on the float. The lip was only about 25mm high so any flooding would allow the ground water to run into it. As it stands I would not like to even shower in it.

The Moo Baan is an older area and it appears the tank is just a concrete pit. Probably ok but over the years may no longer have good walls and may let ground water seep in.

Does anyone know of a specialised underground tank cleaner/inspector in Chiang Mai?

My other option is to install small above ground tank and pump.

    Any helpful comments much appreciated.

  7. If you have iphone or iPad you can use Sygic from the App Store. Not sure how much it is now but I used in Australia and have used here and I find it very good. They released a totally revised edition on the 3rd. You can get for many countries. Also in app purchases like Black Box which uses your iDevice camera to record where you a for accident proof if required. HUD is also good as you can sit you device on the dash and projects to the windscreen basic info like arrow for next turn, etc.

  8. Sure, no problem. There are a lot of bars with pool tables along Loi Khroh road. Just go into one that looks ok and tell them you want to rent the table for awhile. They may even provide companionship.

Thanks for the wonderful suggestion but I don't think my Australia wife would like to spend so much time in bars in Loi Kroh.

  9. Union Science on Suthep road near Nimmanhemin intersection.

Magnesium Sulphate 1KG for 45 baht.

    http://www.unionsci.com/

I went in the other day and asked them and cost me 120 baht for 450grams. Been looking around for bulk but unable to find. Went back to Union Science today and asked did they have bigger size than the 450g, then they showed me the 1kg for 45 baht. Go figure. Pays to ask.

  10. Depends on the job you had there.

I worked in the plant for 23 years making all forms of fuel including Propane and Butane. While I don't claim to know how car systems work I do know about the properties and safety aspects of LPG and storage bottles.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

  11. HI All, I always fill my LPG tank to the maximum, I find you can get between 5 and 10 liters more into the tank after the pump says full, is this likely to lead to a problem, this I do on long journeys to save to many fuel stops.

To date we have owned a Suzuki Caribean, A Jeep Cherokee and two 4 liter Wranglers with no engine problems, although The Suzuki and on one occasion the first Wrangler refused to switch back to petrol, both faults easily fixed. No overheating problems, engine oil stays clean, oil pressure reads ok.

The Cherokee and the latest Wrangler have a valve saver fluid container fitted.

On long runs we get app 6.5 to 7 kilometers per liter at 1900 revs 90 to 100 kph.

How do you do that? It is a pressure based system and operated by the attendant, yes I'd say it is dangerous, you're putting a lot more PSI on the tank that way as the LP (liquid propane) has to have room for expansion into a gas to flow through the system. They should not be able to override the pressure limits set on the pump.

Its a manual pressure release valve, something what was always done in the early days of filling a LPG tank. it allows you to fill the tank a few liters more, without putting more PSI in the tank.

LPG stays liquified under low pressure, does not need "room for expansion". It flows in liquid form towards the expansion unit where it turns in a gaseous state or with newer systems its getting injected in a liquified state into the air intake manifold.

If this manual valve is at the top of your tank, then you could fill it up to 100%

in some cases , if not opening that valve, the tank can only filled with 60% before the pressure would be so much increased that the pump reached its maximum. ( 45 PSI) some pumps even pump under lower pressure...

In the case of the OP, my guess he's filling at a low pump pressure station and he 's opening this valve. in any normal case this valve is placed at a point that you can not overfill your tank. ( at 80% level physical placed )

Sorry but LPG (Butane and Propane) cylinders DO need room for expansion Yes the LPG is mostly in liquid form with a vapour space. If the cylinder is heated the liquid expands just like any liquid does and thus has room with the expansion space. A liquid can not be compressed there for if cylinder was full to maximum and was heated the only way for it to go is out. Even Liquid draw cylinders have a vapour space but a tube goes to the bottom to ensure liquid is drawn off. Again this is purely for safety and not how the system it is in work.

Not a great idea. I don't know how car systems work but I do know about LPG as I used to work in an oil refinery making various fuels including LPG.

A space is left on purpose in an LPG cylinder for a couple of reasons. The main one is that is allows for expansion of the liquid when it heats. Secondly the safety valve is located in the vapor space so if it operates due to over pressure it only release LPG vapor. If the safety valve is located below the liquid level LPG liquid is released instead of vapor. The problem with this is that LPG liquid expands 256 times at atmospheric pressure. So in this case if 1 Litre of liquid is released it fills the same space as 256 liters of gas. This is a very large amount if ignited.

This is the reason why LPG bottles should be operated upright and never modified. We have sample cylinders where I worked that people have modified for home use and has resulted in a fatality.

  14. Hi all,

Does anyone know where i can buy Epsom salts (dii-gluua) in Chiang Mai?

Have tried a few supermarkets and Pharmacies with no luck.

    Thanks in advance.

Sorry other posts about this - please ignore

  15. Anyone had a recent quote or bought one? I have seen a few prices on this forum like 79k, 84k, etc. I just went to a Big C supermarket the other day and saw a small Yamaha display and had the Tricity so I asked the price and she quoted me 120260B. Bit high me thinks.

  16. Hi,
