  1. Personally, I think it is more enjoyable when you go to shopping centres in Thailand like Siam, MBKo or Central World, compared to centres in London. There are many reasons. For example, the architecture and infrastructure in Thailand in general are more glamorous. The food there is more luxurious and cheaper, so it is easier to enjoy eating and drinking, etc.

However, I don't know to which extent this imppression is shared by other Westerners.

Do you think Bangkok's shopping centres are better than New York or Rome?

  2. A friend of mine, from Vietnam, is unwell and wants to go to the nearby BNH hospital in Bangkok.

He said that he has a medical insurance card, issued by a Vietnamese bank. But he does not know if it is accepted by the hospital here.

I have no experience to give advice. Could you pls offer some information? What would happen when a foreign tourist goes to a local hospital here?

    My sincere thanks,

  3. Dear list,

A friend of mine from the UK has got his non-immigrant visa (type M) to work in Thailand for a few months.

However, the embassy in London said that his visa is single-entry only. When he asked how he could travel to other countries, they said he would need to contact the Immigration bureau in Bangkok to sort it out. Or, they said, when he wants to travel somewhere, he would go to the airport and ask for a re-entry permit.

Is it easy as it sounds - asking for a re-entry permit? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

  4. Hi all, I read on the site tastythailand that you can buy a leather bag at MBK for 1600 bahts. But when I came there, I could not find any leather bag at that price. One trader even told me that her bag costs 16000 bahts.

So in reality, for 2000 bahts, what type of handbag can you expect to buy at MBK?

I want to buy a handbag for my partner, but am confused at MBK.

    Thank you.

  5. Hi, thank you, everyone for your kind information and advice. I feel I gain more knowledge thanks to your experience. Perhaps I should stick to food courts and only try street food sometimes. I

t is amazing that at food courts, even in expensive shopping centers, the price is very reasonable. I feel sad and ashamed for those shopping centers in my London: you have to pay a considerable amount for mediocre food. Perhaps if you go to Selfridges and Harrods, the food can be excellent, but then it is very expensive, while you can have the same thing at cheaper price in Bangkok.

I am very intrigued by one comment which implies that we cannot gain weight while eating in Thailand, and Asia generally.

Does it mean that Thai cuisine cannot make you gain weight? Why is it like that?

    Thank you.
