Funnily enough, where I am it has poured with rain all day today...
*Caveat emptor

i know what the 3rd world countries are all about.
It's Thailand, it's user friendly, it's cheap to move about. You're coming in February, it won't be too wet anywhere. Head to Krabi, find a beach, if you don't like it, move on.
Now suck it up, and get on with it.

You're on a roll, make sure you hit 'em up for an upgrade at check-in

Exactly, when in doubt DECLARE IT or you're FKD!

It makes me feel very happy that I am removing my family from here soon....very happy indeed that my children won't have to grow up thinking things like this are ok or normal.
I sympathise with the situation, but I'm interested to know the name of this Utopia you intend to relocate your family to?

Squeeky wheels get the most oil, and those arab's have plenty. Congratulations for your persistence and the very cool outcome.

Thanks for reporting back and now noted. A few pics would still be cool

Spot on Don, if you can't beat 'em join 'em.
Driver education is taken to the brink of obsession in Oz, but it's that learning that really pays off when driving on Thai roads.
I'd go so far as to say Aussie drivers aged 30-60, driving in Thailand are the least likely to come unstuck too often.
Almost worth a poll to find out.

FOX news WOULD be proud. Such a worthy subject/cause is deserving of a tad more journalistic effort and honesty than that.

I don't mind it either, but have to disagree with your assertion that it's Singapore's equal.

I encountered a similar problem having a return biz class seat on thai for the 23rd January. On New Years I got news that mum was really crook, and had been taken to hospital. I contacted thai, asking for the first biz, first, or even economy seat. It took 7 days to get a seat, it's a busy time, what can you do.
I should add that the seat beside me in Biz was empty on that BKK-BNE (via SYD) flight.

Glad to hear no-one died.

You can thank Billp for those, he went to a lot of trouble to make that list. Have a great holiday.

Tech crew (pilots) can smoke if they wish in the cockpit and if the cockpit crew are smokers then the cabin crew can and do smoke in the front as well.
Sneaky buggers

You might make it, but any delay on your inbound flight, and you're up sh-its creek, no flight, no refund, no-where to stay.
A comfortable room nearby might cost you 800 baht, and you can be pretty sure it'll be there when you get there.
Billp's list is worth considering.
Sananwan Palace, very nice and friendly almost-new guesthouse about 20 min by taxi from the terminal, with pool under 500 Baht. My personal favourite. This thread has some of my pictures. And here's the newest discovery: S.P. Power Lodge A/C, sat TV, 1300-1900 baht, 2-way airport transfers included.
Convenient Resort. Newly-built 4-story hotel at Lat Krabang, about 5-10 min. drive from the airport. 1000-1200 baht.
Floral Shire Resort is just on the edge of the airport, maybe 5 minutes from the terminal. 1200-1300 baht. Brand new. No pool. Sort of motel style.
Queen's Garden Resort only 5 - 10 min. from the airport. New, no pool, said to be pretty basic, not very clean. 900 baht.
Grand Inn Come, sort of a typical Thai small-town hotel on a noisy street, no pool, 20 min. from airport, 1800 baht. "Let out professional masseuses treat and pamper your stiff and stressed."
Avana Hotel, sort of the kind of suburban upscale hotel where Thais hold weddings and conferences. Pool and all the usual amenities, 1200 baht. Maybe about 25-30 min. from the airport.
Ibis Hua Mak Chain hotel about 30 min from the airport with reportedly small boxy rooms and gruff, unfriendly staff. Pool, 800-1200 baht.
Rachana Place, a hostel off the Bangna-Trat highway AWAY from the city centre, self-described 25 min. from the airport, 350 baht. Free WiFi.
On Nut Guest House, backpacker hostel about 35-40 min. from the airport and within walking distance of the end station of the Skytrain/BTS line.
Nasa-Vegas Hotel, many recommend. Said to be 15-25 min. from the airport. 590 baht, 900 baht rooms have a jacuzzi. No pool. At the moment, construction of the Airport Rail Link is taking place right next door.

Love a smoke, but survive easily during LH flights thanks to;
Suck away like a cough lolly while you kick back with a Bourbon and coke.... bliss

MBK has a cool towel place, about the 5th floor, they sell unbleached pure cotton towels of all sizes.
Emporium also has brand name towels on the same level as the food court from memory.

It IS just you...
Agreed... It plays its small part in keeping the cab drivers honest.

If you looking for instant confirmation check out Wotif.com (instant confirmation) or Adoga.com (who offer Instant confirmation on selected hotels), the later also has a 24/7 online reservation chat facility, and the operators there are very helpful.
-
check with the hotel for their rate and compare it with the agency rates.
Exactly, always compare the best price quoted by asiarooms, agoda, wotif etc against what's on offer from the hotels own website.
http://www.precisionreservations.com many times without a problem. I've always gotten good rates with them.Precision are AGODA and while you need to check their rate right through to the purchase page to see the actual price including taxes and fee's, they do give you points with each reservation, that can be used for future discounts.
-
Let us know what you think of it, the price looks good. Maybe take a few pictures and write a review HERE if you're so inclined.
-
I looked around a lot before choosing this one, you really do pay top whack for a hotel here. (Something you'd get for 800 - 1000 baht in Bangkok).
Take a look at some pictures HERE

Too true, sh-it does happen, and he can still go smooch a schlong as far as I'm concerned.
Hong Kong Airport

HK also has a number of quiet areas, with slightly dimmed lighting and pretty comfy chairs that are easy to have a snooze on. It's a great airport.
