  1. A great area to live (in my personal opinion) is on the western parts of Soi 70 (which turns into 3218 on the map), past the Hutsadin Elephant Foundation and onwards. Great bang for your buck up here and within your required time frame of the "city". Also, the western most parts of the 112 is also dotted with many nice developments; The Emerald and Dusita developments naming a few.

  2. Why not go to the DLT office in Chum Phae?
They will either issue it directly or having it done at Bangkok (Khon Kaen) and sent per postal mail.

If they live in Chum Phae I would be surprised if they don't know the location.
It's on the road where most of the offices are:

On Friday evening the road mutates to a "Walking Street", a street market closed to traffic.

Many thanks, will forward this straight away!

  3. Hi all,

Looking to get an international driving licence for a Thai individual the legal way as the person in mind (my fathers wife) has a national license. They live in Chum Phae, so does anyone know where to get this type of thing done from say Khon Kaen in the east to Chaiyaphum in the west? Any tips are highly appreciated.

    Cheers

  4. I'm at the beach in HH 2-3 times a week. No jelly fish of any kind for quite some time.

Really!?! I walk from soi 85 to Hilton and back every morning (for the past 4,5 months), 5 days a week, and have yet to have a day without sighting jellies. Less now coming into the dry season of course (5-25 a day) compared to the previous wetter period (50-200 a day). Not box jellies of course but anyway.

  5. You  can go to immigration to have your extensions canceled few days before the date shown on a letter from the employer stating the date the job ens and the will post date the cancellation to that date so you have time to leave the country.

Is it reasnoble that they would allow, as there are kids involved, stsying past the new year?

  6. Your single entry tourist visa will be free.
Agents do not cost a lot and in most cases is cheaper than having to make two trips to the consulate.
You will just need your passport and a copy of its photo page. They don't ask for a ticket or anything else.

Ok great, have any specific agent that's recomended? So they don't even require photos as it sais on the application form?

  7. Hi all,

Will be arriving Penang on the 2nd of Januari and have a flight out afternoon on the 6th and wondering what application procedure is the simplest. I've read before one can use agents to do this, how much do they charge? And if I've understood things correct, the SETV fee is on the period of my application waived, is this correct?

If I choose to go and apply in person, is this the correct form to fill in: http://www.thaiembassy.org/penang/contents/files/services-20161027-173245-315830.pdf and handed in togeather with 2 passport photos... anything else; copy of passport, proof of flight out of Thailand within 90 days?

How much is the fee normally for the SETV, can't seem to find it on the consulates webpage.

Travelling with my 8-year old, that's why I want to be a little bit prepared.

    Many thanks in advance.

  8. Within.  As I said, a map of the market will be really useful and save time.  One hint: each stall has a small address plaque somewhere near a top corner showing what section it's in.  Really helpful in finding your way around as it is easy to get lost there.

Great, many thanks! Been there several times but have never noticed the comic stalls... going on Sunday and am very exited!!! CHEERS!

  9. There are a number of book/magazine/comic dealers at the Chatuchak Weekend Market.
If you were to take the MRT (subway), exit at Kampangphet Station (NOT Chatuchak Park) The book section will be close to the left as you exit.  You can find maps of the market online.

Super tip, thanks! Never gon there with the MRT but this time around it will be the most practical... from the exit you mentioned, is your directions for stalls outside or within the actual market?

  10. If there was an official legoshop it also would be there i would think, or EM-quartier...it's for rich customers and i guess the japanese like it as well.

2nd hand books were at kao sarn road in the past, not sure for now. Maybe a brittish member can bring/sell them to you?

If you don't have the time better buy it online, might even be cheaper as well.

    Thanks for the tips!

  11. Most big departmentstores have it at the kid's floor.

Maybe the most at the japanese based malls like Isetan in central world? They have rich customers.

Yeah, I know that, was hoping maybe there had opened an official Lego shop in Bkk as there has in many neighboring countries. And just have a couple of hours to spare won't really have the time to scout around that much.

  12. Hi all,

As the title states, this is a dual query:

Firstly, I'm looking for some kind of second hand shop that stocks Disney comic books eg. Donald, Mickey, Goofy etc. (English); interessted both in the hard and soft back types. Currently living in Hua Hin and the only comic I've found so far is the "Archie" comic which I feel the jokes in are a little bit to adult for my 8-year old to comprehend. And as we're off to Bkk this upcoming weekend I thought I'll as the experts for advice.

Been googling a little bit in regards to my Lego question and I've found information that the The Central Grand Rama 9 has a well stocked Lego section. Can anyone confirm this and also if there are even better places with big Lego departments.

    Cheers!

  13. Kinda heard that for the first time that there is a difference between drinking- mineral-water.

    Very interesting.

I drank "Zen" Drinking Water for the past 2 years but would like to try out mineral water now.

Ive bought the drinking water from CJ near my village. Any other cheap mineral water brand available at CJ or Tesco Express ? I ask because I drive a Honda click and Marko is quite far from Hin Lek fai :-/

I presume you mean the shops on Pala U rd... I live a couple of hundred meters from there; I'll pop into both of them tomorrow and update on my findings then. Also, the Aro brand is not 49 b/ case as I wrote previously, they are 55 b.

  14. I try to work out 4-5 times a week and I drink a lot of water too, often 3 litres a day. Can you suggest any brands of mineral water by any chance??

I'm not going to say I've tried them all, which I haven't, or that I'm an expert in the subject, which I'm not. But for me personally the Aro brand mineral water (Makros own brand @ 49 b / 6x1.5 lt) works very well. The first couple of years me and the Mrs drank the Nestle water as we thought it was a quality brand at a reasnoble price but never understood why we never felt "rejuvenated" after drinking it... read up a little bit and understood the difference between "drinking" and "mineral" water and have never swiched back since.

  15. Living here for the best part of a decade I have been semi looking for glass bottled water that is not stupidly expensive. People on TV suggested Macro, Villa Market and other places that were not fruitful. But the other day I was eating out and my gf asked a waitress where the restaurant gets their bottled water from, and she pointed us in the right direction.

If you want to know where to get glass bottled water, head down the 3128 road out of town that goes passed The Artist Village and elephant foundation, the one that leads eventually to Wat Huay Mongkol. If The Artist Village is on your right and you keep going there will be a 7/11 and Family Mart on your left but keep going a little bit longer until you see a 7/11 on your left. Pretty much next to the 7/11 there is a Chang wholesaler. In there you can buy a crate of 24 300ml glass bottled water for 290 baht, but if you return the bottles and the crate after, the next lot will cost you only 60baht.

I am really happy about this because the plastic bottled water sits in hot warehouses and is exposed to sunlight a lot of the time, which allows the plastic to release carcinogens into the water. Hopefully the Chang glass bottles will be safer to consume, and forget using tap water here lol!

Thanks for the share, think many people would be interessted in this. Personally I've known about this for a while due to being in the restaurant business for a while... main reason for me not personally drinking it is that it's "only" drinking water. I exercise quite regurlarly and my body feels quite a lot better when drinking mineral water; which also's quite cheap (some brands) but are in plastic bottles.
