  1. Homophobia is alive and well in the "tolerant" Buddhist Land of Broken Smiles!

Homophobia? Isn't that the "battle" against homo's for what they are, not for what they do?

Those 40 "people" are suspected to cause a lot of trouble and crime, THAT's the reason.

And believe me, a katoey, ladyboy or transgender can be very nasty and/or unpredictable.

  2. Good luck getting a work permit renewed without showing the previous year's completed tax receipt.

Well you could work as a volonteer at Shell or Sony! w00t.gif

But you're right......no way to extend you stay based on a WP or extend your WP without showing the famous PorDor 91 and PorDor1

  3. "they denied the accusations. The suspects refused to answer any questions or make any statements to police".

Doesn't go down well in Thailand, I believe you are suppose to make full admissions and sign pre prepared statements written in Thai.

The courts won't be happy with them trying to test the system and could be looking at a long stretch.

Hat's off to them very brave guys.

If the reports are correct and they raped this woman are they still brave. Not speaking doesn't make you innocent are brave

I think that this post was meant to be cynical............well I hope!

  4. Instead of a labor contract, salary-payment-slips or monthly salary-payments in to your bank account may help.

This will prove that you have worked a certain amount of time for the same employer which will give right to you at least 30 days notice.

Of course.........labor will be able to help you, but the school is "closed" for 2 months and nobody is there to answer their questions.

So for now.......leave the country, get a tourist visa somewhere and return; find a new job and start all over again.

  5. There is only one Honda Dealer in Pattaya.........between BKK-Pattaya Hospital and the Kasikorn-bank along Sukhumvit.

Same company but other dealer-location is opposite Ambassador Hotel in Na-Jomtien.(along Sukhumvit direction Sattahip)

They offer free coffe/tea with cake, internet-access and spacious waiting rooms.

  6. Just talked to a friend who submitted his 70yo wife into BKK-PTT on Monday Morning 2 a.m. suffering from a major heart attack.

Until now, the bill has added up until a whopping THB 581,000:

    - 4 days ICU @ THB 60,000

    - emergency operation and placement of 2 stents @ THB ?????

    - 4 days of medical treatment and kind words of doctors and nurses.

I'm sorry OP.........for me BKK-PTT is still a freakin' moneymaking machine and the company-lawyer will have a case added to his list.

Sounds reasonable for what she has had done

I told someone here in the company about this and the first question was: "Your friend is farang?"

"Same same in Aekachon or similar hospital.......about THB 100,000"

  7. I pay 120B/month for water and 3.5B/unit for electricity. I pay 3000B/month for a 60 sq. meter duplex. I live surrounded by forest, good neighbors, and peaceful rice fields.

The "exciting city" is only an overnight A/C sleeper train away (or a 45-minute flight away), but my tolerance of that rat race can span no more than 3 days. Come to Isaan where life is good and affordable. Of course, each to their own. thumbsup.gif

Yeah right........the OP is talking about South Pattaya.

    Where is Isaan?

  8. Try this link: http://www.pattayapeople.com/default.asp?Folder=16&IdArticle=8942

The main issue of the meeting was a revue of the club year 2007 and a prevue of the year 2008. In only two years the club with 255 registered members has become the biggest German speaking Service Club in the whole of Thailand.
After the official part, all attendees went to the parking area in front of the building, where Mr. Michael Strevens, better know as Mike the Hammer, and his crew from the Sawang Boriboon were waiting with the new ambulance. During the last 3 months the club members have raised money for the Sawang Boriboon under the title “An Ambulance for the Sawang Boriboon”. All in all 400,000 Baht has been raised and handed over to Mike in the form of a symbolic cheque by the main

I gues it's the same Mike "The hammer" Strevens.

AFAIK he has been doing great work at Sawang Boriboon for years now.

If it's up to him, all the Sawang Boriboon pick-up trucks will be replaced by proper ambulances.

  10. I entered Thailand in 2003 with a one-year non-B.

I'm not sure of the exact value of my shipment of clothes, cd's, tools, small art-effects, bicycle, but I paid a total of THB 8000 and I guess that most of it were handling and customs charges.

AFAIK, household items can be duty-free imported, within 6 months after your first arrival.

In Holland you can ask for http://www.baggage.nl/

in the UK you could try http://www.excess-baggage.com/ or http://web.crownrelo.com/uk

  11. Calculators are not only a fast, safe and easy way to be sure of any mathematic 'problem' that crosses one's path.

Calculators are also used to communicate in a universal language in case of negotiations. Negotiations often require quick thinking and fast responses and any lack of a foreign language (for Thai it's English and for most of us it's Thai) requires a safe and universal expressions of the desired quotation/offer.

Ok ok, after having settled the price of THB 150 for a small Buddha statue, it need to be extracted from the THB 200 payment in order to come up with the correct change.

  12. Damn, did I finally find a place where they serve horse-meat meatballs.............

In the Netherlands........horse meat is very popular at the moment and the big grocery stores like Jumbo, Albert Heijn and others are doing big business. Everybody would like to taste horse meat.

Somewhat 20-30 years ago, horse meat was a pretty common alternative for beef; it was just a lot cheaper.

  13. Went back with my Tablet 2 weeks ago.
One technician said: I'll replace the main board (warranty) to please make a back up first and then come back.

When returning with my back-upped tablet, another technician said: Your tablet and True do not match.....3G will not work.

Anyway, I left it at Samsung, and after one week it was ready and obviously they replaced the main-board, although I can't check that. Anyway, the problem is still there and obviously the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus can't deal with True 3G networks.

For sale: Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus including official Samsung carkit and charger and 32Gb memory card. THB 8000 blink.png

  14. The sales and stock system in Thailand is different from that in the "west".

Most car-dealers there are concessionaires and are basically a warehouse for the car-manufacturer or car-importer.

If you'd like a specific car, with specific features in a specific color, the central database will show where the car is and it will be taken from another concessionaires' stock.

In Thailand it's the dealer who has the stock and paid for it (most part). If you would like to get car faster, start shopping around.

Last your I bought a new Civic:

    - Honda Chonburi By-pass: 3, maybe 4 months

    - Honda Chonburi Central: 3 months

    - Honda Bang Pli: 2 months

    - Honda Pattaya/Jomtien: 1 month

Some Civic were in stock and if they would have met my requirements, I could have a new car within 2 days.

Whatever happens........do not ever get into paying in order to jump the queue. An acquaintance paid THB 30,000 to jump the queue on a Toyota Fortuner and reduced the waiting time from 3 to 2 months............

  15. Firstly, the colors shown in catalogues and color-swatches are for reference only and the difference with the actual color may differ 5% in shade.

Yes, every shade in the swatch needs a different base, BUT if the base isn't on hand, they can manually change the base in their computer which only means, that the will be another (more expensive) mix of pigments added to the base in order to get the right color.

A discussion about shades is always difficult, but usually the stores put a dot of the paint (which is in the bucket) on top of the cover. Wait until it has dried up (approx. 10 - 15 mins) and compare it with the catalogue or swatch.

If the final color is NOT to your satisfaction, they should be able to alter the shade manually, but that needs a specialist to do so + the result will be not standard and ordering more, if needed, will be a pain(t).

You could try to get a slightly lighter end-result by applying a white primer first; this will brighten up the topcoat.

  16. So, the unfortunate man was still falling?

Wearing only boxer shorts.......carrying a mobile phone? One phone call to the provider will give the identity............we all have to leave some kind of ID when obtaining a sim-card.

    Weird.......sad.png

Not true. I have a sim card and did not have to leave any identifying documents. I just asked for the sim and they sold it to me no questions asked. I guess it depends where you buy the card.

    2 months ago.....AIS: ID requested.

Because of bad service, sim cancelled and bought another one at True........ID-requested.

    Service as bad anyway.

  17. Typical American.........they think that all crime is some kind of organized.

Conspiracy theories and maffia.............problem with Pattaya is, that most crimes are NOT organized.

"Typical American" ? I am American and have never thought all crime is organized and don't know anyone else who thinks that.

    Sorry......probably I've been watching too much "24". smile.png
