  1. Did you try talking to your bank, using the car as collateral for the loan?

You would obviously have to transfer them the car registration as security for the duration of the loan. I take it that is what you mean when talking of "auto license".

Furthermore, your 350 K car is probably worth at most 200 K when resold, margin of the dealer taken out.

"Loan against auto license" means they don't transfer title unless the loan defaults, thus no VAT due on the transfer. That is the kind of loan I am looking for. I do not want a hire purchase loan. I'll take 60,000 baht if that is all I can get it. The point is I can not show proof of income, so need a legitimate company who deals routinely with these types of loans and can gauge the risk properly.

It is not to us that you have to answer that, but if you have no legitimate income, just an old car and do not want to transfer title to the lender, what guarantee has this lender that you would repay and why, oh why, would they ever agree to lend you any money at all? At least when talking of a legitimate company.

No income = no way to repay in the eyes of a bank, unless a Thai citizen with a stable income stands as guarantor.

  2. Possible re. late coming of Escape 2012 to Thailand...

However, the production of the current Escape will certainly be discontinued at the end of this year in the Philippines as Ford is closing their factory over there.

Just for those interested, there seems to be a shortage of Mitsu on the market in Thailand: I am currently quoted on average 3 months waiting period.

  3. Already discussed this with Ezeergood but has anyone else heard what Ford are now offering for the 'outgoing' model Ford Focus Sport+?

There must now be at least one redundant Demo car in each showroom?

    Thanks

Well, as to me, I was offered 10 k discount + a number of accessories. And the classics of course (registration cost etc).

I saw the Focus Sport+ and liked it, although it looked really dated.

I reckon the dealer would have to do a lot better than some extra's

an a 10 000 baht discount to get my attention.

Especially since there is such a big change with the new models.

    Regards

    Will

That is correct. In the end, I decided not to buy it, mainly because of the gas consumption and dated looks (and also the fact that it was virtually impossible to obtain the least test drive in any of the dealerships I visited).

At that level of gas use, I could get a SUV (helpful in those days where it is flooded because of rain). I tested a Ford Escape, and that was really an easy to drive car, with good handling and very smooth... Right now it is a toss up between this and the Pajero Sport. With a heavy push, I was offered a reverse camera, dvd set and all the stuff for the Escape, which makes it more attractive. Furthermore, the 0 % interest rate over 4 yrs (special Ford offer to get rid of the Filipino stock of Escapes) also caught my attention, as it allows not to block too much money on a monthly basis.

The one big issue is the highly likely hit this SUV will take on resale value when the new Escape reaches Thailand next year. If I can stay in Thailand for 4 years, then it is is not much of an issue all rounded up.

  5. About everywhere from what I heard from an Isuzu dealer, the V-Cross 4wd is very popular among thieves and gets shipped off to Cambodia.

Obviously, it does nother help that that pickup, besides being cool, has no stock alarm system whatsoever. In Europe, almost no car is sold without an alarm (for whatever good that may be - sophisticated thieves will always get around any system).

That car is too fresh on the market to be able to make claims like that. He is just wanting to sell you some add ons (or get commissions from his friend for that).

I do not think so. He reviewed all the different alarm systems and concluded that the best way was what he did: asking the taxi bikers to check for any suspicious activity around his house. >_>

  7. Moonriver used to say it's negotiable, but I tried my hardest and they wouldn't budge.

Also, can an OP please tell me how to sort out the quote system, it double quotes every time on me!

i negotiated a lower rate for my isuzu - first ask to se all the rates with all the banks and financing companies, don't just take the one they give you.By switching to SCB I got a lower rate than their goto financing company then phoning the bank who have my records for many years was able to get an even cheaper rate.

I could try SCB as we have a very large house mortgage with them (30K + a month). Seems its best to shop around!

Well, I played the game of quotes with the dealers. And in one place of the same brand, the dealers tried to give me 2.25 %, whereas in another, they were offering 1.99 % (with SCB). You must be pushy and hard with them, as part of their income is made of commissions on finance.

  8. Thanks for the reply Eezergood, I apreciate the explanation as it a large amount of money we are investing in 4 wheels.

It is strange because my American friend used to comment how economical his Focus was but maybe he was comparing it to some 'Yank Tank'?

I just wonder if you investigated the same Focuss as in Thailand as I believe none have sunroofs? Maybe the reports were about US or European cars????

Sorry, I meant in this general area where one would normally find a sun/moon roof! OOOPs, apparently the windscrean had a propensity to allow in moisture? This was from a mechanic, but again this is just what I have been told on this particular issue

From what I read (http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/1778-ford-focus-water-leak/ ) it seems as though the issue was mainly with the hatch opening and unsatisfactory sealings.

  9. General poor fuel consumption, sporadic rusting - around the sun roof, under the front seat area - where rust proof treatment not sufficient. Small niggles such as broken levers, and the hyrdaulic risers for the boot leaking & broken

Was that not over earlier models/American-manufactured models? But I concur on the poor fuel consumption.

  10. my understanding is rebate is untill the end of this year,

and we hope to complete the $$$$ paperwork $$$$ before the end of next month...

yes my TGF will be the first time buyer.....

seems the only catch is you must keep the car for 5 years can not sell it or it voids rebate ...

can't imagine the car being worth much re sale after 5 years .

hmmm always a catch $$$$$ in this country....

So does this mean you have to pay the full retail price of the car first, then wait for the rebate to be paid back?

Is it one lump sum that you will get ?

How long will this rebate take to be paid ?

1° Correct, you pay first and you get your rebate one year after.

    2° Yes.

3° Normally one year; however if the thai national on the name of whom this car is registered (reminder: not for farangs!) sells it before five years, he is liable to repay the full amount of the rebate.

  11. Who says its owned by a thai?

The plate numbers. wink.png Only thais who pay extra for numbers which include 9 and 8.coffee1.gif

Perhaps a Thai lady? Hmm I never heard about a woman driving a Hummer but maybe she got feed up with crazy male drivers on the road and bought this thing.

it was parked before a beauty salon, so I think your assumption would be right... wink.png

  12. I am bumping up this thread to give an illustration of the arguments exchanged (there were mostly opinions exchanged, few hard facts or images). I believe this video makes the case about bigger vs smaller quite eloquently.

No wonder, here the car being t-boned is... a Honda Civic.

Definitely gave up looking for a car. biggrin.png

  13. Nope. The blue book states the correct amount of passengers, 2. The insurance states 4.

In which case they won't pay.

strange reply from someone who drives around with virtually no insurance, ready to do a runner if he's involved in an accident.

why wont they pay? do you have inside knowledge of how many passengers I carry?

In the case of an accident, passengers making a claim, witnesses or the police will officially ascertain the number of passengers. If you break the covenants of your insurance, then obviously the insurance Will have good grounds to refuse paying.

  14. Had my first up close look today at the Hi Rider XLT double cab today at Ford Silom. Nice looking truck. Was suprised by how much room the rear passenger area has compared to others i look at.

Now the tough part, wait for an answer for when a AT version of the 4x4 is available, wait for my preffered choice the 3.2 wildtrak 4x4 or just go for the two wheel drive i saw today.

Naturally, I was ignored by the sales person? who sat on her chair while the other one in attendance tended to two other guys. All I wanted to know was what was required to order the XLT I saw today, and how long a wait. Not even a hello. Guess they don't need upwards of 900k to 1 million baht from me.

The people of Ford Silom are very kind and helpful if you go and talk to them... However, many of them do not speak English fluently enough and hence may fear not understanding you or giving satisfactory answer. Try getting in touch with Khun Areeya, she has a good English level and may be able to help you. If you wish, I can tell you what was required:

    1° 3 sets of copies of passport and visa + work permit;

    2° Salary slip (one set)

    3° Bank book (3 sets)

PM me if you want the mail of K. Areeya.
