  1. Police suspect story is untrue following Australian Woman’s claims of rape by three Thai men.

In the early hours of Sunday Morning, a 25 year old Australian woman presented herself at Pattaya Police Station, claiming she had just been raped by three Thai Men. The victim explained that she was on Walking Street when she met a man who agreed to act as her guide for the night. This man has been identified as Khun Sairee aged 33. The victim who could not be named at the time of the complaint explained that she was taken to a wooden house and raped by three men in quick succession. The Third man appeared to feel bad about the alleged rape and took her back to her Hotel following the assault. At Pattaya Police Station, Police Lieutenant Colonel Tanagrit took up the case and was given vague descriptions of the location of the alleged rape and her story appeared to change when she was asked about the case following the initial complaint. The timeline for the assault also changed during questioning which aroused some suspicion. These suspicions were confirmed following a press conference with Police Colonel Nopadon, the Superintendent of Pattaya Police Station on Monday Morning where he confirmed the victim had fled Pattaya without paying for her Hotel. Police are now locating Khun Sairee to find out his side of the story. The Colonel confirmed that if the case appeared to be fabricated he would issue an arrest warrant for the so-called victim, who is thought to have already left Thailand.

  2. American assaulted by two men who claimed to be Police Volunteers on Pattaya Beach.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Prateep from Pattaya Police Station was called to Pattaya Beach Road in front of Soi Yamato just before Dawn on Saturday to investigate a serious assault on a foreign tourist. Arriving at the scene, the officer was met by the injured victim; Mr. Ted Dragen aged 45 from USA. He directed Police to the location of the assault and explained that two men dressed in Black approached the victim and requested he hand over his money and valuables. Mr. Dragen claims that both men identified themselves as Police Volunteers. Mr. Dragen refused and was then set-upon by the two men who rendered Mr. Dragen unconscious for a time. When he woke up he realized the men had stolen 6,000 Baht from his trouser pocket. He was able to give the name of one of the two attackers as “Jo”. Police are now checking CCTV pictures and will attempt to find the two men who conducted this apparently random attack.

  3. English Man badly beaten in Soi Beokeow.

Police and rescue workers were called to the front of the Gaetsiri Gems Shop on Soi Beokeow in the early hours of Wednesday Morning to deal with the aftermath of a brutal attack on a foreign man. The injured man, Mr. Roger Parker aged 50 from England had sustained a serious head wound. Nearby was a large stone thought to have been used in the attack. Witnesses mentioned that the victim was walking with friends when a black car pulled up beside Mr. Parker and two men came out from the car. Both were carrying a bag which is thought to have contained stones, similar to the one dropped by one of the attackers at the scene, and proceeded to attack him until he fell to the floor. Mr. Parker was not able to speak to Police because of the severity of his injuries and at this time Police believe the attack may have been prompted by a problem with a business or relationship issues. The investigation continues.

  6. The Vientianne on Pattaya Tai is still good.

Are you talking about the big place near Big C (just off Pattaya Tai, really)?

Is this the new location for the Vientane that was on Second Road?

Some people tell me Walking Street, some this big barn-looking place.

Not really gone looking, through lack of transport (and spending most of my time in Saudi), but likely to move to Vietnam soon and that will mean more time at home.

The Vientiane restaurant near to Big C (South Pattaya) opened quite a while before the one on Walking Street closed.

The excellent Vientiane Restaurant on Central Road at 485/18 Moo 10, close to Big C. South Pattaya, offers a large and very impressive menu boasting International dishes from Thailand, Laos, China, Europe and of course Vietnam. Authentic dishes from frog to ostrich. However, it’s the Seafood that is predominant on the menu. Open everyday from 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 a.m.

    Pattaya's five-star market potential

    NIGEL CORNICK

The growth in Pattaya's property market in just the last two years is nothing short of astonishing. There are a number of factors that have caused in this growth, such as the economic strength of the Eastern Seaboard, but none has been more important than tourism.

As an industry, tourism has created international awareness and prosperity, resulting in the establishment of impressive five-star infrastructure assets particularly in terms of transport, health and hospitality, which are directly benefiting the property industry today.

Pattaya has long been the biggest tourism destination for Thailand and continues to be so with an estimated 6.85 million visitors expected to have arrived in 2007, capping an increase rate of almost one million visitors every two years over the last five years.

Thais, who for years have travelled to the beach resort for weekends, remain the dominant group representing between 20% and 25% of total visitors.

The biggest change the destination is experiencing is the surging volume of visitors from Russia. From January to June 2007, a total of 558,608 Russians visited Pattaya, by far the biggest overseas visitor source, and a huge increase over the 482,587 arrivals from the destination in the whole of 2006.

Visitor arrivals from South Korea, China and India also climbed significantly, by 81%, 25% and 51% respectively.

The tourism arrival profile directly reflects the nationalities who invest in Pattaya from around the world, with Russian buyers topping the list of investors in Raimon Land projects in 2007. They represented a sold value of almost 250 million baht or 22% of the total value of international investment with our company in Pattaya.

The Thai market continues to understand and profit from Pattaya too, with property investments totalling more than 200 million baht in 2007 in Raimon Land projects representing 19% of total investment. This is followed by the UK and Australia who each make up a further 10% and Germany with 6% to comprise the top five investor countries last year.

This should not obscure the diversity of investor markets in Pattaya, with the United States, Sweden, China, Estonia and Ireland all significant investors with a total of 1.1 billion baht invested with Raimon Land in Pattaya in 2007.

The strength of the destination, though, is not just about numbers. Much of Pattaya's allure is as a lifestyle destination due to the wide choice of upscale leisure activities that can be enjoyed throughout most of the year.

Pattaya's ability to offer a host of international sports and leisure activities, combined with all the conveniences of a modern and cosmopolitan city, now just 90 minutes from Suvarnabhumi Airport, is attracting investors sold on the destination's tropical lifestyle.

One example is the rise in the international yachting and sailing scene, with the 2007 Top of the Gulf Regatta attracting more than 500 sailors and some 250 vessels.

The regatta was headquartered at Jomtien's Ocean Marina Yacht Club, one of Asia's top marinas. It includes a condominium complex, hotel and yacht club, and is capable of handling 500 yachts in the water and 200 in drydock. Further plans include the construction of the 32-storey San Mario Condominium with a 51-room hotel.

This type of luxury accommodation development characterises the more upmarket trend in Pattaya, where new hotel projects will result in a 50% increase in five-star room inventory over the next two to three years. In the last quarter of 2007, we witnessed the opening of Amari's Orchid Resort and Tower in North Pattaya, while Centara, Hilton, Movenpick, InterContinental and Le Me'ridien all plan to open upscale hotels and resorts between 2008 and 2010.

The development of a former beachside resort into a dynamic city offering an active lifestyle on its doorstep is a compelling investment for many nationalities and it is also something that has not been lost on the host of retirees investing in the destination.

Tourism has blazed the trail for much of this to happen. Now it is the turn of property developers to build on this platform, contribute to the local economy and to the happiness of investors, and those who want to live in the destination in the winter months. This is the first in a series of three articles that draws on research by Raimon Land detailed in the upcoming publication, 'Why Invest ... Pattaya'. In the next article on Feb 18, we will look at rental yields and capital gains in Pattaya.

  11. Stranded crash victim back home

Richard Price was left partially brain damaged in the accident

A man from Kent who was stranded for months in Thailand without the medical treatment he needed following a road accident has been flown back to the UK.

Richard Price, from Dover, was left in a coma after falling off a motorbike, but he had no travel insurance.

His mother June could not afford the thousands of pounds needed to fly him home with a paramedic.

But thanks in part to the generosity of BBC South East Today viewers he arrived back at Heathrow on Wednesday night.

Mr Price came off his motorbike in Pattaya last November.

    'Absolutely fantastic'

The accident left him in a coma for weeks, and he also suffered fluid on the lungs and partial brain damage.

His hospital bills have been in excess of £30,000.

Speaking on his arrival back in the UK, Mrs Price said she was very grateful to all the people who had helped to fund the cost of her son's journey home.

"Everyone's been absolutely fantastic," she said. "Without them I couldn't have done it, and I owe them so much.

"All I can say is thank you to them from the bottom of my heart because he's on British soil and I know he's going to be taken care of and looked after."

  12. I thought this thread was about "Jomtien Condo Owners Sue for Sea View".

Why all these posts about chidren on construction sites? These are surely off topic and are definately deflecting from the main issue.

Whilst children being injured on construction sites is a terrible thing, surely this should be the subject of a separate thread for those who wish to discuss it.

Jomthien Complex Condo did not sue for sea views. The group of co-owners from Jomthien Complex went to court because VT was given permission by City Hall to erect a building higher than 14 metres when the Law says that only buildings up to 14 meters can be built within the 200 metres on the sea side of Jomthien Complex.

Tammi excuse me if I'm wrong but what is the heading of this thread? "Jomtien Condo Owners Sue For Sea View". :o

Are you just contradicting yourself now? Don't you think you've lost enough face without making such stupid comments? If you revert back to the original OP, you'll see that the main concern was that co-owners headed by Richard would lose their sea views and sunsets. Who are you to tell the Thai people how to do things? It is farangs like you that give the rest of us a bad name, wishing things here were just like they are 'back home', well go back home you won't be missed here.

Quite a nasty posting. Your "jai" isn't very "dee".

That is not "nasty", it becomes nasty when OMIB starts accusing investors of VT7 of having blood on their hands. Funny, we haven't heard from him for a while, I wonder why.......................

Sometimes the truth is hard to bare and if that is perceived as "nasty", well so be it.

What's with the :D (real angry)emoticon? He is bad for your blood pressure.

I know the title of this topic and I've always thought it inappropriate. It was a ThaiVisa Admin guy, George, who titled the topic. Is George in the StopVT7 group?

george infact owns this site and no george nor any of the mods have any affiliation with the stopvt7 group or any other company linked to this thread.

The original opening article came from the Nation news media.

  14. Just read on another thread that smoking in many places will be banned as of the 11th February, 2,000THB fine for the offender and 20,000THB fine for the operator.

My reason for asking is I am not a smoker and would like to be where there is no smoking, on my last visit to Pattaya in November last year I dinned at one of the Swiss restaurants in Soi Diamond, during the meal it seemed to get very uncomfortable with tobacco smoke, I noticed there was a no smoking sign above the door, but the only thing the management/waiters did was put ash trays on the tables for the smokers.

Do you think this ban will be enforced?

    BB

As far as I am aware there has been a no smoking ban in enclosed restaurants in Pattaya for a few years now and this legislation is in addition to the existing legislation.

Here is an article from the Pattaya Mail :-

New Smoking Ban No Big Deal. Thaiand Hoteliers say

Thai hoteliers have downplayed the impact of the new ban on smoking in the country’s bars, nightclubs and pubs.

Thailand’s Public Health Ministry is to launch the new regulation, banning smoking in air-conditioned entertainment venues and Bangkok’s popular Chatuchak outdoor weekend market in February. The fine for violators will be 2,000 baht (US$67) for individuals and 20,000 baht for the owners of nightclubs, pubs and bars.

This new regulation is in addition to the ministry’s ban on smoking in public areas such as government buildings, hospitals and train stations, which was imposed four years ago.

Bangkok’s Siam @ Siam Design Hotel and Spa general manager, Mr. Sanya Saengboon, said all the hotel’s f&b outlets were already smoke-free and there were separate smoking areas for guests. “The impact from the new smoking ban will be minimal. There have been no serious complaints about this so far,” he said.

However, Holiday Inn Chiangmai general manager, Mr. Alan Watts, said that while the new law might not hurt the hotel’s f&b outlets, it would create a big impact for the standalone indoor entertainment venues. (TTG)

  15. Update from Pattaya City News

Two arrested following recent 900,000 Baht robbery in South Pattaya.

On yesterdays show we reported on the robbery of Thai and Foreign Currency totaling 900,000 Baht from Khun Poonsub aged 36 who is married to an American. Further details of the reasons why she was carrying the money have now been revealed by the victim. She had withdrawn 800,000 Baht from the bank on Friday Morning which she intended to use to purchase land in her home village. She was also carrying winnings from a gambling event which occurred the night before. Police did not hold out much hope of catching the two people involved in the theft, however, some investigations into the gambling event suggested one of the men who attended had previous convictions. He was located at his Mother’s Mini-mart store located on the Sukumvit Road in Jomtien with his female accomplice. Khun Boonrod aged 29 and his girlfriend, Khun Prisana aged 19. Inside his room, Police found the bag containing most of the cash and a loaded handgun thought to have been used in the robbery. The male suspect is currently involved in a court case relating to a shooting which occurred some years ago and he is facing at least 10 years in prison if convicted. He intended to use the money to clear the case out of court. He is now back behind bars and has been charged with armed robbery along with the female suspect. They must also find 57,000 Baht which represents the money missing from the bag since the robbery took place.

  16. 900,000 Bahts worth of Thai and Foreign Currency Stolen in Armed Robbery.

Police were called to an apartment block in Soi Gopai, South Pattaya on Friday Morning by Khun Poonsub aged 36 who claimed she had just become the victim of an armed robbery. At the scene, she explained to Police that she had come back to her 2nd Floor room and was confronted by two masked assailants who were carrying guns. They ordered her to hand over a shoulder bag which contained a mixture of Thai and Foreign Currency totaling 900,000 Baht. This is not the first time she has been robbed and Police suspect the assailants had previous knowledge of the victim and that she may be carrying a large amount of money. Police are now hunting for the two men, however with no witnesses and a vague description of the two men due to them concealing their faces, the chances of recovering the stolen bag and its contents are slim.
