  1. No but farmers do give me their address and encourage me to do so.
Cool. If you did go then how would you check?

Like in any organic farm, I guess .. at the difference may be that I would probably go with a Thai speaker to translate...

I would ask the usual questions about organic farming practices (water/pest/soils management, seed origins/suppliers, the genesis of the farm, their motivation to go organic, their hopes, projects, problems, etc etc.. .) Organic farmers are usually very chatty and keen on sharing info and educating people, they show you and explain everything in details.

They are already like this at the coop they tend to talk to you for 10 minutes for each vegetable you buy

  2. don't think so... Actually it was only because I asked where the farmer had disappeared that they told me the whole story.

They clearly display the price they themselves buy the stuff next to the sale price. (most of times a couple of baht difference) and the farmers come themselves to stock the shelves, so they can see the prices ...

So I believe they are indeed a non-profit organization, hence money not being the motivation, scams are in my opinion automatically ruled out. ... Anything is possible but I would rather trust them than any supermarket.

Is that not exactly how a good scam works?
    What do you mean ?
For some reason the guy left so a story is manufactured in order to show the collective in a good light. Like on the adverts where supposedly happy customers are in fact actors or at shows where people are planted in the audience.

At least I have an answer and more importantly I can actually ask questions and check myself, if I wish to visit the farms ... try to get any info regarding suppliers at Villa ...

So yes I would trust a non profit organization selling organic veggies for the price of non organic ones and who has a transparency regarding its suppliers, over a supermarket who just multiply prices by 3

A good scam is based on trust

Yes sure, so is your relation with your friends, family and anyone you mean, everything is based on trust.

You chose freely whom you decide to trust

I rather trust a non profit organization than a supermarket, but it's up to every each person to decide.

I have absolute no trust in supermarket, in the West they have a long history of ripping farmers, destroying farming and cheating customers.

    But you decide.

  5. Also the coop conducts regular checks among its suppliers and have already kicked out a farmer for not producing everything himself and buying and reselling product of unknown trace-ability.

So no way even that could just be a marketing scam?

Where are these coop places....I live too far out to be of use, but used to know of one in a soi off of Suk 21

Yes you have to research them, they are initiated by little groups of individuals like farmers market in the states or Growing Communities in Britain. Thailand is still in early stages in terms of green awareness but they are a few people willing to put their energy together to eat safer food. I found mine where I live in Bangkapi, but I have heard of others.

  7. No I would and I actually buy my fruits&veg organic, much cheaper than villa.

Eating pesticides in a regulation-free country might save you a few bahts in the short term, but not for long.

    -

Unless you know the farmer personally, since there are no effective regulations here, what makes you think you're actually getting what you pay for?

Just wash thoroughly and you'll be fine.

I actually meet the farmers regularly as they come to the coop to sell their products weekly.

(And the stories they tell me about the practices of the non-organic farmers here are pretty scary...)

ISome products in the coop even display the same "Organic Thailand" label as found in Villa

Also the coop conducts regular checks among its suppliers and have already kicked out a farmer for not producing everything himself and buying and reselling product of unknown trace-ability.

  8. While on an expat package salary buying fruit and veg at villa during the weekly shop is a no brainer- it's being able to use cash to buy yourself time ( there are plenty of things many would rather be doing than driving somewhere else to buy cheaper veggies !). And, lets be honest, we would all be doing the same if we could afford to.

Where do you buy your organic fruts and veg cheaper than Villa ??

I go to a non-profit coop that does not rip off Thai organic farmers or consumers

  9. Id say the problem is more marrying girls that are half your age it would just happen that these same girls are mostly bargirls though,if you want to marry a prostitute at least marry one near your own age have a lot more chance of success that way. Duh ! Getting a young bird is the actual point who would want to marry a 65+ prostitute ?

  10. Things I (being clever and sensible) buy at Villa.

    Raspberries (fresh)

    Blackberries (fresh)

    Peaches (fresh)

    Walker's Crisps

    Bird's Instant Custard

    Angel Delight

    Suet (when they have it)

    Ribena

Milky Ways and whatever UK confectionery they have in.

    Cider

    Roasting Joints

    Bread

Things I (being clever and sensible) don't buy at Villa

    Any Thai produced goods.

The things in the first list may be expensive, but a rip-off...? Not as far as I'm concerned...

Long hauled fruits and veg lose from 50 to 90% of their vitamins and nutriment content, so not so clever to buy overpriced delicate imported fruits.

Walker's are sold just about anywhere here, every 7/11, Family mart has them

  11. I don't understand why everyone is putting the blame on Bar Girls.

Most people I meet here are not working in bars but don't have much better ethics.

What's more Thai ethics applies differently to different stride of the population, and as Farang we're just at the bottom of the ladder.

Udon Thani and other provinces are full of poverty stricken family, who just view the farang as a "crop", something you have to patiently wait for, before it brings you dough, a much more lucrative crop than rice but nothing more ( "My boyfriend the sex tourist" documentary - real eye opener ), .

"Try to take us for everything we have" is (apart from a few exceptions) only the normal thing to do.

  13. Negative posts about life in the UK would have a bit more veracity if the people making them attached a photo of their UK passport being burned and confirmation back from the UK government that their sworn statement relieving the UK of any future responsibility towards the expat had been received and logged for future referernce.

Burning your passport won't make you lose citizenship and there is no such thing as statement relieving the UK from responsibility towards an individual.

Unless you have dual nationality, parting from own citizenship is not only impossible but also forbidden as you would become stateless. (Geneva convention)

  14. A dog belongs to the person who treat him good.

If you can provide him with decent healthcare /food/ loving/ shelter, it's yours to take.

My soi dogs had 2 different "owners" who let them on the street by 40 deg and be devoured by mange.

They spent 15000 thb on a blackberry but would not pay THB100 to cure the mange. I told them I was gonna take the dogs, they disagree. It was "his" dog, I told him if it was not for the mange medication, the dog would be dead by now, so I already owned his life. So that was that.

Life span on the soi is divided by 2, if you can take him off the soi, you give him a life.

  15. looks like she's done the dirty on you as well as the dog,who needs freinds like her, after you had done all her dirty work and had to convey what she was going to do and put up with the snide remarks expecially from me...

And yet no apology at all...

Sent from my iPad using ThaiVisa ap

apology is that from the owner?

so she has a husband.46 posts later.,

and you are not her freind so you say.

i can only apologise for doubting you.

Sorry you don't make any sense : Yes she has a husband, 2 kids, 2 cats, a couple of sisters, some other grown up kids from a previous marriage, a driver, and a maid, ... What does it have anything to do with Paula or the fact she abandoned her ?

How could I be the husband ? Have looked at my name ? Avatar ?

Kitsune is a female fox with a large flowery hat, what male would choose such an icon ?

  16. She is not my friend, it's just someone I happen to know and see sometimes. And I liked Paula.

Every time I saw her she would insist on me taking on Paula, as she knew I already had rescued dogs.

I kept saying I could not take her (did not have place/money..).

Gradually she told me about the different horrors scenarios that could happened if I did not take her as she could find anyone else.

Each time, the scenarios were worse... I did feel pressured. She kept repeating : - Paula likes you, you should have her.

A second potential rehomer was to come and pick up Paula; she said it was her last chance, but as the first re-homing attempt was unsuccessful she was not very hopeful. ...Paula's future looked bleak ...

Feeling sorry and pressured, I offered to put her on some website as so far she only had put ad at her husband's workplace and their Mooban.

So in fact I did offered my help.

A couple of days later, she wrote me a mail saying that the second potential re-homer did not even want her, so could I please put Paula on some websites, like I mentioned.

A week later Paula was already taken care of sad.png(can't take these words out of my head, trying to figure out all the possible scenarios ...) I think I'm still in shock ...

I don't regret anything, even the insults, I did it for the dog, not for her.

What are a couple of insults if it's to save a life ?

I just wish she'd given me more time to find a solution ...

  17. it sounds like she took the opportunity of leaving the country to have someone else dealing with Paula. And when she will be back in one month, it will be all forgotten !

She cannot even face her own decision.bah.gif

I am so angry, why asking for my help if she was going to get rid of her so quickly ?

And I wonder where and how is Paula right now ...

  18. I have just received a mail back from Paula's owner.
She said ;- I am in the US thank you but I believe Paula has been taken care of -
She also added - I keep the contact just in case -

I immediately answered back asking if Paula has found a new home ... no answer

the - taken care of- sounds bad doesn't it ? crying.gif

  19. Hello

A update about Paula ; I have found a refuge that is ready to take her as long as the owner is sponsoring her.

I am not sure of what this entails (medical bills + food?)

Anyway I have passed on the message to Paula's owner and hope that she will agree.

I will keep you informed of any further development

I am crossing fingers and hope it will wok out !thumbsup.gif

In the meanwhile please keep asking around and pass the message

    Thank you.

    K
