Seems like Thule can fit a roofbox, so no reason why they can't fit a roofrack :)
Shop name is D2 Autorack in Bangkok. They ship to Chiangmai.

Fortuner 2004 - 2009: Brake Disc Part No.: 435120K010 -> this part was shared with Hilux Pickup
Diameter: 255 mm
Fortuner 2009 - 2015: Brake Disc Part No.: 435120K090 -> Hilux kept using above part, fortuner switched to this one.
Diameter: 297 mm
Anyway that's what the system at our shop tells me :)

According to headlightmag, they only confirmed the 2.4L and 1.6L. No news on a 1.5 turbo available in the Thai market for now.
Paultan is referring to the US version which is indeed getting the 1.5 turbo.

There is nothing wrong with buying Deestone, Maxxis (even a Nissan GTR comes with maxxis tires standard), etc if it fits your lifestyle. Depending on the size, a set of maxxis tires can be bought for 6,000 baht.

So what are the good quality but cheap brands ??
Maxxis and Firestone are not bad and not expensive

What's the size? These days there are a lot of relatively good quality, but cheap tires available for your needs.

Yes, there's no single centre exhaust

I'd take care of that pretty quickly!
Yet again another opportunity lost :)

The Mazda 3 saloon and hatch are the same price. It doesn't make sense to have a different price for the hatch unless the specification is different.
The specs for the HB and Sedan are a bit different...different exhaust (sport) system giving it more HP and torque. I can see that Honda will ask more money for that. Not sure of any other differences.

Well how much parallel parking does she have to do? To my understanding that's all that system does. In Europe there is a lot of parallel parking, but in Thailand, a lot less

I drove the RS today. Actually really liked it, yes some road noise but apparently you can get some aftermarket work done to quieten it somewhat (it comes on YoKo's). Was a little tempted to buy it today but will wait for the 29th to see if the hatchback appears and if it is worth the extra thb. The RS boot is actually huge and big enough for what we need.
The Honda offer, from our local garage, was somewhat better than I expected and included Insurance. RS service intervals are not fixed, but come from some calculation on how it is driven and time I guess.
The extra air bags on the RS are somewhat of a 'puller' over the 'none RS' Turbo. I am too old to get another ......... Mrs J will drive it most of the time so she says!
Told you :)

Mrs J drove the SP Sport a couple of days ago. She has longed for one for a while now to replace her ageing Lantis... was she disappointed after driving it . If you are ok with a somewhat firm ride and quite a bit of road noise then worth a look. Straight after she drove the Focus and much preferred it.
Not to forget Mazda 3's very sensitive internals...

That's good news I'll still check with the manufacturing guys when I see them in a few weeks. Rayong branch say they haven't sold a single Focus. There's still the other problem of buyer remorse in a year or so when the completely new Focus is launched. For someone like my wife the 2017 revision doesn't look massively different to the 2012 model.
Ford never really was popular for their passenger cars in Thailand I think, but their pickups and SUVs didn't do too poorly.
Here in Isaan, there are still a quite a lot of old rangers driving around and we see a lot of newer rangers too.
It takes time to change the mindset of people, but if MG can do for Thai people then Ford should be able to do it too I think :)

How much protection do they offer against the inevitable door dents here...?
Almost nothing. Offers some protection against scratches from accidents, but crystal or ceramic coating is especially to prevent swirls, tar, bugs, etc.

Crystal and Ceramic coating is all in the branding and naming of the product. Both have very little to do with crystal or ceramic literally.
The meaning each shops gives to them is different and depends from owner to owner, but let me give you the standard explanation which is commonly accepted.
1. Crystal Coating
- Developed before ceramic coating. In Japan around 2008...
- Offers 7H scratch protection. This test is quite subjective, but in the test they will drop a 7H Pencil on the car coating at x Newton strength and in that case there will be no scratch or damage to the coating.
Subjective because the x amount of Newton strength is generally not specified.
- Offers better shine than ceramic coating
- Usually up to 1 year of hydrophobic effect
- Usually 1 year of warranty on the coating
2. Ceramic Coating
- Developed around 2012, 2013 in Japan by Threebond Chemicals.
- Offers 9H scratch protection.
- Less shine than crystal coating
- Usually up to 1 year of hydrophobic effect
- Usually 3 years or more warranty on the coating
30,000 THB for a franchise shop (Ceramic Pro, Seeker, Kubebond, Gyeon, etc) is quite a normal price. The cost of chemicals is only around 2,000 THB per car.
However, they also need to polish and prepare the car for the job. In addition, the staffing cost, the franchise cost, the rental price of the shop, etc.
A few things to watch out for:
- Ask the brand of chemicals which he is using: in case of Seeker chemicals, they use a lot of wax in their ceramic coating. Gives you an amazing result, but also shortens the life of the coating.
I seriously recommend Ceramic Pro - Gyeon - Kubebond or Nanonix.
- Ask the warranty he provides on the coating.
- How often you have to go in for maintenance?
- In case of an accident does he offer free recoating for the replaced panels?
- Does his service include: coating of car body, wheels, tires, interior, engine bay, wheel wells, undercarriage?
- What's the thickness of his coating? Many shops offer 50 micron. Unless they can prove that with a micron meter, then you shouldn't believe it.
Normally a coating (2 layer) is around 15 to 20 micron maximum. The more layers you put on the less shiny the car will be.
Finally, you can wait another year or so as they are going to launch titanium coating. Seems to have 12H strength, but will have to see for myself first.
That's it :)

At that price, I'd also look at the top spec mazda 3 (now loaded with tech), and nearly 200K cheaper.
As far as I know, there will be only one model for the Hatchback and it should have a bit more HP than the sedan RS.
It's the nearest Thai people will get to a Type R so it will sell seriously well.

I don't know what profile, just that they were round. Mazda have had NHV issues for years and years. This 'updated' model has extra insulation in an attempt to sort. Maybe Mazda haven't thought of your idea ...
My civic had quite a lot of tire noise when I got it and so did the test car. My wife negotiated with the Honda dealer to pay me the money for the spoiler, side skirts and front spoiler so I could get new and better tires.
They gave me 15,000 baht discount on top of a lot of freebies. I am running Vredestein Sportrac 5 tires now and the noise has disappeared.
Honda is putting cheap EC300 Dunlops on their cars and they make a lot of noise. (The Honda RS has yokohamas I think?)

I think you misunderstood my point. Ford may choose to build the Focus and Fiesta for export only as a result of the damaged brand reputation. The pickups and the Everest sell well. I like Ford and have senior contacts in Ford manufacturing and I want to thoroughly check this point before buying.
After checking with my contacts in Ford Asia (both Bangkok and Shanghai), they confirmed that they will not be pulling out of Thailand with their passenger cars. Even further, they are committed to sell a model under the ford fiesta in the new ECO car phase 2 starting in a couple of years.

Why has the US version got a bump to 180hp over the sedan, but the local hatch will still have 173hp? Any ideas?
If the local hatch uses the same free-flowing exhaust system as the US/Euro car then the hp should be 180, I would presume :)

Hi jas21 is the gearbox problem all sorted, or is it a different one now. i like the honda's, my 11 year old city never missed a beat.
Ford 1.5 Ecosport 's transmission issues have been solved.

Yup we were also surprised, but in the overall score it came out second. Test trucks were Triton, Ranger W/T, Dmax, BT50, Hilux Old and New...no Navara.
We also did a comparison test with the new Fortuner 2 years ago...Everest outclassed all, second place was again Isuzu MUX :)
