  1. Maybe traditional Western owners of such places need to give thought to catering to the Chinese and Korean markets. Soi 7 has a new Chinese bar.
  2. Chinese owned Panda group; who used to have a bar, a gogo and a nightclub on Walking St; are going to occupy a new development on 2nd Rd near Soi 5 and the aforementioned Korean nightclub.
  3. And a Korean nightclub next to the Runway site on 2nd Road.
  4. I do wonder how much the legalisation of dope has affected the bar trade. Smoke a joint and you are instantly on a high. No need to sit in a bar and down bottles of beer for 3 or 4 hours. It is interesting that all the bar owners who produce vlogs say they are not into the dope scene and it is not their thing. Bars still have their place but maybe not so much now.
  5. Heinz are American though their baked beans in the UK are made in Wigan. Go well with Wigan's renowned butter pies.
  6. None to my knowledge. Air Asia used to do plenty of "local" flights but Covid did for them and until very large numbers of Chinese come back to Thailand that's how it will stay.
  7. OK, I'll be first. I do live in a "shoebox"; with my girlfriend; on a condo complex with about 2000 units and have done for almost 7 years. It is not my ideal but before moving in I saw many places in my budget far worse than where I am now. I am by no means the only farang here, many have been here longer than I have so must like it as I do. I have a gym and pool (included in my rent of 7000 Baht per month), a library, a launderette, an onsite 7/11 open 24/7 and nice landscaped gardens to relax in. I am way better off financially and emotionally than I would be back in the UK. After visiting here twice a year for many years it was my dream to move here in retirement. I am now living my dream. In a couple of years I will be eligible for my UK state pension which will be a life changing amount of money for me. I will look to upscale my condo but am happy to stay on the same complex which is clean, safe, quiet, well maintained and on a baht bus route. I have easy access to shopping malls, countless bars, cafes and restaurants. Four cinema complexes are nearby. The only time I have felt closed in and cramped for room was during the strictest part of the Covid lockdown when me and the girlfriend got under each others feet and skin. That was for about a month or so. My girlfriend has her own business so we don't normally live in each others pockets. As for cooking, I have a slow cooker, toaster, microwave, a hot plate and a halogen oven/grill. I would like more room to expand my culinary repertoire but I get by just fine for now. I appreciate that many could not or will not live in such a small condo unit. It is fine for me, so I am not going to get into an argument or discuss my life story with anybody. My choices affect me and my girlfriend, not other posters on here.
  8. Taxis with working meters would be a good start.
  9. I would seriously consider staying somewhere else, if possible. You are a long way from any of the usual tourist areas or the beaches. Some online reviews complain about late opening karaoke bars nearby. Google maps show local bars and restaurants to be aimed at the domestic market.
  10. I think so too. Maybe try them out in Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Phuket. The terrible state of the roads in Pattaya gives them a big handicap to start off with.
  11. I believe; at the moment; it covers 2 consecutive days as an introductory special offer. Still pricey.
  12. Lack of passengers seems to be the main issue according to a couple of YT vlogs I have seen. The cause for that is the 800 Baht ticket price. Ouch!!! I think charters may be the way forward. Maybe we will see in October when the Chinese come for Golden Week.
  13. A blast from the past there. You'll be giving your old self away.
  14. If your phone is in warranty; less than a year since purchased; Samsung's service centre will replace FOC. There is one on Pattaya Nua, no idea if one in Jomtien.
  15. He will leave hospital for freedom in a wheelchair. The week after he will be secretly filmed playing badminton.
  16. Anyone over 21 shouldn't need a babysitter.
  17. They passed a law; before Covid; granting themselves immunity from any future prosecutions.
  18. I do occasionally have a couple of Warburton's crumpets with butter. You can buy them frozen here. Only now and then though.
  19. The Swedish owner challenged me to a game, I won so he stuck the 20 Baht on my bill and I was greivously offended. We were both very drunk and it was verbals only. Not my finest moment.
  20. Had a brief 2 night stay there pre Covid plus a couple of day trips. The beach is hot and humid with no breeze and scoffing down huge platefuls of seafood is the thing. Nightlife is mostly aimed at the students so beer is cheap. We enjoyed a night in a farang bar till I got barred at chucking out time for arguing over a 20 Baht charge for a game of pool. There was a Walking Street at the most northerly end of town but we never ventured that far. During one day we visited the marine museum at the University and they had an impressive collection of live jellyfish. Our hotel was OK, called United Place. There is a University Hospital on the main drag so plenty of eye candy amongst the student nurses. Overall, I would not rush back there.
