You have to remember where this came from - some moron using Twitter. Let's face it, anyone who uses these social(?) things like Twitter do not have a real life so please excuse them.

Same same but different, no?

The irony of slurring a Thai person with a Vietnamese term seems lost here. Was this malicious? Of course not. It was the sort of cheap gag I'd expect from my grandfather. Harmless banter.
These nouns only really become offensive following derogatory adjectives.

If any readers are still interested in this thread I can again attest to the high quality pizzas being served at Ellis Trattoria. Conversely I also visited M&M last week and despite some improvement, the base centres are still a soggy mess. Pity as restaurant and staff are top notch.

Think I can finally end this argument. Went to piccolo cave last night (next to Rimlay). We has a Pizza and a Pasta dish and they were in an entirely different league to everywhere listed above.
Would be interested to know if this was a one off or in fact if this is the unsung hero of the Rawai / Nai Haarn pizza scene!

That place is just a few months old, used to be a bunch of dead bars there. How was the pricing compared to the usual suspects in the area, and how was the service and portion size?
Realising my review was inadequate as identified above I returned. Service is excellent. Still highly recommended.

Some people evidently can't tell the difference between a burger and a Pizza. (check thread topic)

Lots of money being invested on new returaunts along Stinky Rawai beach with the fecal stench not s good idea...

You are right about the sewer smell but it has only been noticeable when dining once. I'd suggest checking them out. The three restaurants are owned by one Thai chap - an Italian restaurant, a salad bar and a Thai. The Salad bar is really outstanding, fresh and delicious and the Thai dishes beautifully presented. The Sushi and Japanese grill on the beach road are both terrific also.
Hopefully they won't all close down next month!

Discovered that L'Odeon and Palau Fish (Next to M+M) recently died. Haven't seen Applebys or L'Orfeo open for some time.
Does anyone know the status? These were all above average restaurants and bumping during high season just seems a bit odd!

Wow thanks for the update. Was only open a couple of months and seemed quite busy. Is it known why?

Does anyone know if Odeon has closed down already?
Also noticed L'Orfeo hasn't opened it's doors for a while ?

Sitting in a bar riverside in PP I had to update this post with a note of thanks for the tips. Halfway through the week trip and have covered most of the bars above.
As much as I love Phuket...
This place is way more fun.

Thanks for the suggestions gents - the SMTP settings are correct as the problem is intermittent and e-mail is routed via our mail server. Again, once wifi connection is established mail flows are fine.
I also have gmail set up on that device which should act as a back up SMTP servuce but that fails also
The problem isn't with my phone either as my partner has the same issue.
If anyone can solve this I'll put 10 minutes of credit on a Saucytime account for them as a thank you.

Intermittently having difficulty sending email via 3G. As soon as wifi connects there is no problem whatsoever. Web access and incoming mail no problems on 3G hence beginning to think this may be an ISP config issue?
Have any of you good folks seen this problem before?

Report on Odeon - Pizzas are indeed very good, around 300BHT, generous toppings but not greasy and no sloppy puddle of Cheese in the centre a la M&M & Modena.
Friend of mine had pasta at Odeon and reported it as being terrible and disappointing following a fantastic bruschetta. Also complained about slow service which I didn't experience despite the restaurant almost being full last night. That said, different Chefs and different kitchens.
In my opinion I would say Ellis and Odeon are closely tied for best Pizza in Rawai / Nai Harn.
Chalong next stop.

Alcoholic was perhaps the wrong term. These guys were problem drinkers or alcohol abusers.
The OP admitted to drinking heavily once a week which would suggest he is not clinically an alcoholic.
These guys were perhaps 'borderline alcoholics' that just took control of their situation and enjoy drinking occasionally instead of daily.

I passed by there about an hour. Still there. And the lights have been out on that stretch for about a month so it's pretty dangerous when coming up the hill at speed.
I have one more bit of conjecture to add...I surmise someone was overtaking coming down the hill very fast, as I have seen many times there, usually by a delivery truck of some kind, and forced the pick-up into and over the guard rail. The guard rails along there are mostly cosmetic. Not nearly strong enough to act as intended, as evidenced here.
That actually makes a great deal of sense. Hope he got out ok - fortunately missed the pylon and should be ok if he was wearing a belt.

Think this is a fair question. I have only been here for 18 months but in that time have seen at least half a dozen happy farangs become completely miserable after they were fleeced by girlfriends or wives 20 years their junior and wondered why.
No options. Foreign country and usually no money does not a happy man make I imagine!

You certainly have progressed a lot since last month when you wrote, "Any possibility of a children's table where us trainee expats could have a nice chat away from the grown ups and their problems?"
Very observant of you, sir. Still hoping for said table away from those cited by the OP.
I have yet to meet a miserable young farang.

Best pizza in Rawai/Naiharn area
in Phuket

Tried Agli Amici yesterday - bases are very good but Frozen crab sticks on a seafood Pizza? Really? On a tropical island with a seafood bounty?
Place was busy at 6pm suggesting popularity, service great, base was pretty good if slightly doughy. Pizzas hover around 250/300. Worth a try.
I have Agli Amici at #3
