  1. I also had great difficulty getting in last Friday. I have a new passport because my last one was full, not because I was hiding anything. They said I had had too many tourist visa's in the past. I used to have retirement extension, but cannot renew as my local immigration will nor respect my 65,000 monthly transfers until i have made 12 of them. I manage to persuade IO to let me in but they made me promise to get long term visa for next entry after this TR expires............... looks like a dodgy Visa which I do not really want to do,

You must be 65 years old or over and getting a state pension to get a non-o visa at the embassy in London. Proof of the state pension is the only financial proof required.

If under 65 you can get a a OA long stay visa for retirement if 50 or over if you can show the equivalent 800k baht in a UK bank or proof of 65k baht income.

On the OA 3 questions - what type of Police Report, what type of Medical Report and you have guessed it, how do you satisfy your income to the Embassy ?

Is it your intention to retire, or just visit Thailand.

If retirement, there are other options available when you cannot get the 'O' Visa in the UK as long as you meet the financial criteria.

I currently live here, travel back to UK twice a year for work. I let my last retirement extension lapse earlier in the year as i had to stay in UK longer than expected. My last non'O' was derived from a 30 day entry , converted to 90 day single 'O' and extended to retirement status. This was done by Khon Kaen immigration some 5-6 years ago and I have always renewed with the Embassy proof of income letter. Due the changes in the Embassy's letter and the local gossip it would appear that the same route s not going to be possible. I was talking to a lad this morning that said I could get an 'O' from the Embassy at my age 56. I disagreed hence the original question. But on the plus side I have won the 500Baht bet ???? . I generally do 5 months in Thailand, 1 month in the UK so i can juggle Tourist Visa and border crossing twice a year until it all settles down......

  4. Don't think you can watch this fight in a bar because it starts around 10 am in the (Sunday) morning. Bars are probably still closed at that time.

A few of the bars will be open at that time near Pullman. Apparently it is on Channel 7

  6. KK Immigration are great....always helpful and not on the lookout for any cash. They even gave me a 60 day visa when I was sick in hospital - the wife went and told them, no questions asked and stamp.given immediately.

I disagree - I was transferring from a 30 day stamp to O visa (based on retirement income) and the lady who sits furthest away from door wanted 5,000 Baht extra to do all in same day. So price was 2,000 (O visa 90 days) + (1,900 extension) & 5,000 for her !!!

I refused and went back after 90 days and got the extension for 1,900 Baht as per normal

  8. So these large companies that are already in Thailand will have to play by the same rules ? Do they employ the Thais or just pay the Taxes & Thai National Insurance (or equivalent)

She will also require two other Thai directors who will hold 51% of the issued shares. And these Thai shareholders cannot count as workers, which means you still need to hire four separate Thai workers in order to qualify for one work permit.

The UK Chef you mentioned having been issued a work permit is not unusual as the restaurant probably easily had the minimum four Thai staff already employed required to meet the ratio.

BTW the idea of hiring a British chef is somewhat comical. Apart from Filipino cuisine, the British must boast virtually the worst food in the world. All decent restaurants there are foreign. When did you all last go out to a British or English restaurant in the UK?

I never said he was British (although he was) and I never said he was cooking British food (which he wasn't)

  9. To all the work permit geeks smile.png out there, I would like to ask a question(s)

    1. If my girlfriend (yes Thai) would like to start a small call centre business that specialises in calling ONLY to the UK and wants to employ only English speaking personnel (epats etc) would she be able to do this legally ?

I see many SEO, IT, marketing, web design type companies working out of Thailand (in various locations) employing non Thais and offering WPs. I also used to know a UK chef that was given a work permit (and I saw it) as he was cooking meals that the Thais couldn't cook.

    Info please

  10. I have been logging into a european website continually on a daily basis for over a year. The last 2 days have the download to take up to 30 minutes & then will not format correctly when log in.

My BB is TOT, fairly stable 12Mb down, 0.5 Mb up - never had these issues. Have cleaned cache etc

    Any sensible advice please ???

  11. Google, "Libel tourism."

Libel tourism is a term, first coined by Geoffrey Robertson, to describe forum shopping for libel suits. It particularly refers to the practice of pursuing a case in England and Wales, in preference to other jurisdictions, such as the United States, which provide more extensive defences for those accused of making derogatory statements.

There is a career in this ??? - would suit a few on TVF. Present company obviously excepted
