Just what the area needs. Another bucket load of tourists turning up...
-
I live in sathon and it amazes me the number of taxi's I sometimes have to flag down before one is willing to take me where I want to go. As for the popular tourist areas (I.e sukhumvit, patpong) i have seen them queuing up, yet refusing to take passengers unless they pay up. Unfortunately sooner or later someone will pay over the odds generally out of drunken desperation to get home, which the taxi drivers know only too well. it's not right and rather annoying.

Bit of a how long is a piece of string question. All depends on what you want to do? Hit the girlie bars and you'll need a small fortune. Island hopping can add up too. Cple hundred U.S just for a internal flight is not unheard of, but catch a bus or train and it's completely different. 5 star hotels or basic accom? Figure out what you want to do and then do another post, or just take whatever you can and just go for it and learn bit by bit as each day goes by. Sorry couldn't be any more helpful. I also see you are talking about 2014, so plenty of time to research and plan your trip. Enjoy!

So mid-flight the attendant calls her personal advisor in HK to ask if it's ok? Personal advisor? Did I read that right? Clearly I'm in the wrong job

Tragic. Suicides seem to be an all too common occurrence these days.

Well said seavisionburma. I've been bangkok maybe 25 times over the past 10 years, am new to this forum, no way an expert, and making the move to bkk in 2 weeks. Once again I will state I no nothing in the grand scale of things, but in my experience bkk is a city that's only going to go one way. In the same way 70 baht to the pound will never be seen again, bkk will slowly but surely divide/separate and possible even conquer all existing and past pre-conceptions. IMO of course. And getting back to the point, recommendation are so helpful. I certainly could use a few pointers when i arrive

Hi. I think if you really need the visa quick smart your best bet is to actually go to Hull where they will process it on the spot. I applied for my visa 3 weeks ago and it arrived yesterday. I chased them a few times and when I finally got through I was told that it takes time because they are busy etc. Point being, I think your taking a chance postal wise. Good luck anyway

It sees to work pretty well in London, although quite often you see people on them that clearly haven't rode a bike in years and of course don't have any helmet etc to protect them when they fall off. It will be interesting to see how it goes down in Bangkok

Hi. I would think the best bet would be to look around the khao San rd part of town. Quite a few in that price range up there.

Hi. I would second the shangri-la, but also Lord Jims at the Mandarin Oriental is fantastic IMO.

I'd like to think I'd be shocked and surprised by all this. I would be if it were anywhere else in the world. How someone is allowed to go home having been charged with this crime is beyond me. I wonder whether anyone in Sweden is actively looking for this guy with a view to sending him back a'la Aldhouse. Hmmmm........
