  1. "Who you gonna call"? Preferably someone with a better knowledge of English!

I realise this is a Yank speaking - but for God's sake can't you learn English?

Wow someone must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed today! I for one appreciate the fact thet the guy is just trying to help people.

The fact that his language syntax is different from mine {as an Aussie} really isn't a 'blip' on my radar.

  2. This makes me think back to when I was in my 20's and I was helping a friend lay some tiles in an old people's home in Australia. There was an old man laying in bed crying and calling for his son over and over again. It was terrible! The rest of the residents were just sat staring off into space.

At the time I was just glad to be out of there but now I am in my early 50's it does make me wonder from time to time what it would be like to be old and frail in Thailand...

  3. Suspect nobody is interested in legalities (as with hospital not reporting) due to his age and condition so perhaps better to keep on back burner as he does not appear to have much of an option with return to home country even if able (although not sure if he would then have free treatment/housing perhaps)?

Certainly would be entitled to treatment, accommodation and shelter in UK.

As a non-resident he won't be entitled to treatment in the UK.

He'll be facing a grim time if he returns to the UK.

Actually the UK treats anyone Free of Charge. I am here for a few more weeks and all medical treatment is free on the NHS no matter if you are a resident or not.

  4. I have visited China 19 times and lived there for 6 months at a time. Was married to a beautiful Chinese woman. If you think doing business with Thai people is difficult, you are in for a huge awakening. Unles you have Guanxi [Connections] you are totally screwed.

Maybe they resented you having a beautiful Chinese wife?

No it is just the way of doing business there. You have to really get to know people. In the west we are used to meeting and doing business. In China you first have to meet and socialize - often several times before you even discuss business.

  5. Very few people realize that even if you have insurance, the hospitals can ask you to pay up-front first. I found this out to my dismay when I lived in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China.

I rock up at the hospital in agony - FULLY Insured at 1am.

The Matron looks at my insurance and asks for RMB 35,000 [They thought I needed my appendix out]

Now... no one carries that much cash at 1am and you cannot get that out of an ATM in one go anyway.

I explained I was insured [Australian travel insurance cover] and they just said "That will pay later now you need money first or go home"
