  1. I've read a rave(ish) review of the Vodaphone Smart Ultra 6.

The price about a year ago was 125 pounds.

    5.5"screen. 13 meg camera etc.

    http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/mobile-phones/1403548/vodafone-smart-ultra-6-review

I read a PR report from about 3 years ago that Vodaphone had joined forces with Dtac Thailand but the staff in the shop had no idea what I was talking about.

Maybe this phone is on sale in Thailand re-branded under another name.

  2. How does this MISinformation get published?

    Complete rubbish!

Molly slipped when getting into a taxi on leaving his hotel on his way out for the evening.

He suffered a dislocated shoulder and was seen out and about in Silom last night (Tuesday).

Any apologies forthcoming from the posters here with their wild almost libellous theories?

If rubbish like this gets published as news --- what are we to believe about other serious news items on this site?

  3. I was under the impression permanent residence was a prerequisite for a citizenship application.

I am planning to apply next year.

No, I don't think so. If he can, the citezenship would be the cheaper way to go (residency about 190,000 Baht plus 8K to apply).

Thailand doesn't permit dual nationality so would he have to give up his original nationality?

Anyway, as someone else here has pointed out, he's missed this years dates for application for residency.

There is a window of about 3 weeks during Nov/Dec when they accept applications and then the process takes about 18 months.

  4. I have an SJC SJ4000, which I believe to be a clone of a GoPro,

A very good review and it sounds interesting.

Another good review is at http://the-gadgeteer.com/2014/10/27/sjcam-sj4000-action-camera-review/

As Red says, it seem to be a clone of a GoPro with more facilities.

I used to be all for locally made clones untill -------- I bought an iMobile IQ6.3 smartphone.

It was fabulous; looked cool, 5" screen, 18meg camera and more facilites than the iPhone -------- untill just after the guarantee expired, then things went downhill. Touch screen failed --- 3000 Baht. Headphone socket failed, many crashes and now the new screen (just out of warranty) is covered in seasonal looking snow ---- another 3k Baht --- I think not.

    Sorry to digress.

PS In my earlier message, I mentioned the mall MBM --- the cat was fighting me for the keyboard, I meant MBK at National Stadium skytrain.

  5. I know nothing about cars or motor cycles but I do know about video cameras.

GoPro is way over the top for what you need. It is a 4k resolution camera which is HD broadcast quality.

A friend was looking for a car version of helmet cam and found lots to choose from at MBM in Bangkok.

The prices started at about 2k ----- but you get what you pay for.

Maybe you should look for one with sound so that you can later verify what the BIB said if you need it.

Again, I know nothing about motor vehicles but I would think that the sight of a helmet cam would deter any BIB considering stopping you for frivolous reasons or for easy tea money.

As an edit: Sorry I've just re-read your OP and you don't specify motor cycle ------ could more likely be a bicycle. But my comments above apply equally.

  6. What is important is to look at the TV in person. Walk around -- make sure the picture brightness or colour dosen't change when you're off centre (or up and down).

Plasma was once considered by proffessionals as best picture quality but after a year or so the brightness slowly faded (burn-in).

Now, I would go for an LED, preferably a D-LED if you can find one to give rich shadows.

I am confused by 4K! What 4k source is there to feed into it?

Make sure you have at least 2 HDMI inputs or you will have to keep plugging and unplugging between TRUE (?!!) and DVD or whatever.

As to brands, I would stick to well known brands and stay away from cheaper Thai or Chinese makers.

Oh, and make sure that there is a good service (guarantee) arrangement that includes collection from your place.

  7. Yes, their service has always been efficient, helpful and friendly ------ WHEN I CAN GET THROUGH TO THEM.

Whenever I've had a problem Truevisions or Internet and called thei number, I get the automatic switchboard telling me to press 2 (?) (I forget now) for English which then takes me to another Thai recorded message. Time and time again.

Is there a secret number for them that allows access to English?

  8. What worries me is the legality of the internet services.

Is ExpatTV legal here in Thailand but illegal in the U.K.?

And what about all the internet sports services?

The BBC is now starting to clamp down on VPNs using its iPlayer.

Having said that, ThaiExpatTV is excellent quality and service (and I imagine that its sister sports service is the same) BUT you still need some form of TRUE if you share the house with Thais.
