I wish they all would be too broke to travel or countries would ban them from entering, for a decade. Both won't happen and they will unfortunately be araound soon again. And most likely they will be the 1st foreigners after the lockdown to be allowed in, walking on a red carpet.

Her take is that most average Thais want the borders pretty much shut permanently to all foreigners (outsiders) and only allow domestic tourism.Ypur wife's income obviously doesn't depend on foreign tourism. My wife instead has 2 businesses, depending very much on foreign tourism and has a totally different opinion than yours. And me, too.

However when it suits them they believe the government that there are no local corvid transmissions if it helps their case.
IMHO corvid is still out there just not found by testing and opening bars and forgetting social distancing will start a second wave.
So either you believe the goverment that there is no corvid out there and we should open it all up forget about all measures and return to our previous lives or you believe (like i do) that its still out there but that the government just does not find it because of lack of testing and opening up would be a problem.
I too want to go back to pre corvid but I think its still too early.
2nd wave ? There never even was a 1st swell not talking about a 1st wave. Paronia there's a lot, though

For an alcoholic it's impossible to drink controlled. It may work for a certain time even for years but sooner or later it hits again and you get outta control again. Keep the house booze free and try to avoid places, where people drink, until you are strong enough to say no. One day at a time or even one hour at a time. Try to find out what is good for you and what is bad and makes you drinking.. You are not at the bottom yet but it will come, if you don't stand up now. AA is good but you will have to fight the demons at the same time. Good luck !

Time for easing restrictions has come ! Give the people work to pay for their food.
And some fun by opening the beaches for a swim and sun bath, like the gulf regions have done

1st of all, dump the wife and her family. Get away from them ASAP and don't let them know where you are. Change your phone number, Facebook, etc, And than, as the others suggested, take your time to travel around, when it will be possible again. I got divorced myself and after that, I was happy again.

4 hours ago, wagsthedog said:I reckon foreign tourists, i.e. the ones that spend money, e.g. Australia, British & European will not return til at least next Songkran/vaccination availability. I know the govt in Australia ( now only 490 active cases) are saying it will be 3-4 months before people can fly to 'safe' countries for a holiday. If flying to Asia, they suggest that on return to Australia you would have to self quarantine, with the police spot checking your where about's on the virus app. I cant see people spending money on flights etc for a two week holiday only to return for a two week lock up, meaning you would require four weeks leave for a two week holiday. That is why I say at least next Songkran, but, and this is the big but, I reckon the days of the gogo bar and the like will decline sharply and disappear? . Until next year all the Thai people employed in the bar/restaurant will need other employment and they will be competing with all the people who have been displaced by the farang tourist not being present. There has already been I rise in crime as people are desperate for money to survive. I personally know a couple of Thai guys who have made mistakes and ended up in Phuket jail.
Just waiting until the unemplyed and hungry will start to march. In the US it took much, much less to mobilze violent masses

Find a place that sells booze in a coffee mug or similar or mix your own, as suggested above. At the pool booze is not allowed anyhow, in my Condo Complex. So it's a brown bag or Dunking Donuts cup.
On the other side, one of the restaurants openly sells the beer in tinted glasses....
