  1. I have had slingbox for 3 years just the usual problems

I have been traveling for 3 months using my slingbox everyday includin yesterday from Japan

I have returned home today and even though my internet speed appears to be fine my slingbox is very slow.

I have checked the box in the USA and everything is fine on that end.

I have called TTT and they said they are experiencing problems with some foreign web sites.

IS ANYONE OUT THERE USING A SLINGBOX AND DO YOU HAVE CURRENT ISSUES?

    Thanks

  2. I have been traveling outside of Thailand for the last 3 months during this time have used my slingbox everyday including yesterday from Tokyo.

When I returned today my slingbox speed is about 0 to 12.

Called TTT and they said they are having a Problem with Slingbox they are trying to resolve the issue.

I have lived here 5 years and of course I dont believe them so have any other SLingbox users seen a problem since sept this year?

PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME ABOUT PAST PROBLEMS THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE I HAVE USED SLINGBOX IN THIS COUNTRY FOR YEARS!

Thank you for intelligent and sober replies!

  3. Would you please tell us the name of this country because I for one would like to make sure I NEVER visit there!

I don't see what the hassle here is all about.

In my home country it is REQUIREMENT to declare the arrival of foreigner within 48 hours.

A few years ago, when I took my wife to visit my home country, I failed to report her to the local authorities as she had a Visa and I taught that having a Visa and an Entry stamp would be sufficient (we stayed at my brothers house).

Two days later, we had a "visit" from the local Police and they said that they had the right to deport my wife immediatly and jail my brother for not declaring that he had an undeclared foreigner in his home!!!!!

    Go figure!!!!!!!!!!!!

And that was not an "third world country".

If the Immigration crackdown is meant to make Thailand safer and follow the International standards, then they should go for it.

  4. We are not talking about withdrawing from a Thai bank!

How did you get the money in the Thai bank.........duh!!!!!!!!!!!

Do Thais pay the same, whatever bank?

From my Thai savings account I can withdraw up to Bt200,000 per day. Never any charge no matter what bank ATM I use while I'm in my home province of Bangkok. I think the rate outside the province is Bt25 per transaction.

  5. I too wish to avoid these new charges on my USA ATM card, here is how to get cash without paying a fee.

Take your card into the bank, and request cash without going over your daily limit set in USA.

You are not limited to the 20,000 imposed by the local banks!

You give them your passport sign a few forms and VOILA! No charges and you get the same exchange rate as the ATM.

    ATM and the B150

To get my B150 worth I withdrew B20000 instead of B10000 today What is the most one has withdrawen

from a ATM here in Thailand? ...My limit is $1000 in the USA so my try next time, B25000.... Anything to reduce the sting.

    Thanks...

  6. To avoid the fees I take my Visa debit card into the bank and get cash. The exchange rate is as good as ATM rate.

There are no fees on either end.

I stopped my wire transfers as I was being charged 40 USD by my American Bank and the exchange rate was not in line with the ATM I checked this by using my ATM on the same date s the wire transfer.

Here is what I do to cut all that crap out. You can do this if you have a Thai bank account. I have a Siam Commercial Bank account. I setup a Paypal account noting the country as Thailand during the setup. I added my Siam Commercial Bank account to it. It was listed as a bank in the drop down. I also have an American Paypal so what I do is transfer money from my Paypal American account to my Paypal Thailand account. If i do over 5000 baht there is no fee otherwise it's 50 baht. It takes about 7 days to transfer the money but I pay NOTHING. Even when I paypal myself to the Thailand Paypal, they take nothing. Then the money hits my SCB account. I know it might seem like a lot of steps but honestly it takes me 1 minute to do the transfer and I just wait. This is how I pay my rent and get my money here in Thailand because Wells Fargo in America charges a ATM fee, International Currency Fee and some other crap. So, i don't get charged all the fees. The only drawback could be the exchange rate on the baht but it's fairly decent right now.
  7. I can speak from personal experience.

When I was 7 years old I was molested repeatedly by my female teacher, without getting into details i can sum it up by saying that now I have a sexual fetish, The fetish is harmless but none the less I have lived with it ever since puberty.

My opinion is therefore that this student will have to deal with this sexual encounter for the rest of his life.

Instead of closing the thread, lets have a civil discussion about it...

We know for a fact that an underage female student being shagged/raped by a male teacher could face serious psychological problems afterwards and possibly later in life.

My question is: Would a male student suffer similar problems, or will he not?

  8. Thais urged to end island detention of boatpeople

Activists criticise the treatment of Rohingya refugees

    THAILAND

Alan Morison and Chutima Sidasathian on Phuket

    Jan 14, 2009

An international refugee advocacy group has called on the Thai government to halt the army's secret practice of detaining boatpeople on an Andaman Sea island, before towing them into international waters....

  9. Someone please explain to me that this hurts tourism?

If you travel by air you get 30 days. If you are a tourists how long is your vacation?

If you happen to be some lucky bastard that get more than 30 day vacation go get a visa in your home country.

I see no problem here, lets weed out the farang that says he is a tourist but he is really hiding away!

30-days border runs now only 15 days

BANGKOK: -- In order to limit the amount of foreigners using "back-to-back" border runs, Thai Immigration has issued a new regulation regarding the 30 days tourist exemption.

Effective immediately, travellers without visa will get only 15 days of stay if they are arriving via a land border checkpoint from a neigboring country.

Passengers arriving via an international airport will obtain a 30 days stay, and for them there is no change.

Travellers with Malaysian passports will obtain a 30 days stay.

This police order number 778/2551 is today confirmed by Royal Thai Police, Immigration Bureau, in Bangkok.

    <deleted>?

Here is what I have learn so far, lets keep card manufactued out of Thailand out of this discusion for now we all realise the import taxes and the corruption that goes along with that.

Lets talk about a car or truck that is being made in Rayong and compare theat price to the price you would pay in the USA.

Yes you are going to pay a whole lot more money here for a vehicle for sure. Also dont forget you will not get the safety features that you will get in the states,I looked at a new car the cost was 600,000 B I asked how many airbags they said none, the reason was that this is a cheap car.

I guarantee there will be no re-enforcement to the doors, the brakes will not be big enough in the case of an emergency stop, forget anti lock.

It is a real joke here the cars sold in Thailand are only made for here, they can not be sold in Europe because of the safety issues

So bend over hold your ankles and take it with a smile take solice in the fact that the vehicle will not depreciate at the same rate as in the states.

  11. I was lucky to meet an educated, gainfully employed girl in BKK this past year (for ease of readiblity, I'll call her Nat). Since we are in the early stages of our relationship, I know it's nearly impossible to get Nat a tourist visa to come visit me in the states. She does, however, want to visit a long time friend in Michigan. Nat's friend married a farang 13 years ago and for the past 9 years, her and her husband have been living in MI. The two weeks Nat would be spending in the US would be under their roof, entirely supported by her friends. So, while she's on her vacation in the US, we would be able to spend a few days together, even introduce her to a few of my family members. Now for Nat's current situation. I'll bullet them as to help identify Nat's case:

    • 30 year old professional woman.
    • Previously married but now divorced (currently single)
    • No children
    • Proficient in English
    • Gainfully employed (6 years with same Thai company) with a 50K baht monthly income
    • Respective savings account (close to 500K)
    • 20 year close relationship with childhood friend.
    • Notarized letter of invitation from childhood friend to spend the 2 weeks with her family
    • Copies of friend and friend's husband US passports (both come and visit Thailand often)
    • Letter of Employment from current employer that states her job function, her high value to the company, and approval of her 2 week vacation holiday.
    • Passport and tourist visa approvals to Germany for 2 previous vacations (all within 5 years)
    • Immediate family all live in BKK
    • Does not own any property accept for her car.

I'm really looking any leverage Nat may have as to prove she is not a "risk" to the immigration department and will not over-stay her visa. Nat has decided to use a "visa agency" in Bangkok to help her with this process. So, I have essentially several questions:

    • First, what are her chances in getting approval on a tourist visa for 2 weeks from the US Embassy?
    • Is the "visa agency" worth the 5000 Baht?
    • Which reason should dominate her answer to the US embassy when they ask her, "Why do you want to come to the US"? (we already know to leave the 'boyfriend' out of story!

Again, any advice or help would be appreciated as I know this board has helped other members in the past.

It has nothing to do with how long she knows you are anyone else for that matter, she needs to go into the interview and convince the one person that she talks to that she will be returning!

Make sure the person she talk to knows that she speaks English DO NOT let them talk to her in Thai, it only adds to confusion.

Why is she going to America to visit friens and to be a tourist, that is not the big issue the big issue is that they need to be convinced without a doubt that she will return to Thaialnd.

    America loves tourists!

  12. Where is best place to live in Thailand if money not an issue. I would prefer a coastal region. Not concerned about housing costs or job availability. I am not sure I want the head ache and huddle and bustle of Bkk. Thank you.

Lets see if I can give you some direction so you can formulate your question a little further.

If you do not have a Thai person there are many limitations to certain areas of Thailand which would make it very difficult for the Farang to live by himself.

First and foremost do you have a Thai significant other, if the answer is yes this opens up many possibilities for you.

If the answer is no which I suspect it is then you are limited to the big tourist areas which all of these other guys are talking about.

    Examine what you would like

Do you like to live near a beach?

Do you want to live in the mountainous region?

Do you want access to Thai ladies that have sex experience?

    Do you require farang food?

Do you plan on purchasing a car or a motorbike?

I live in probably the best area of Thailand but I could not live here without my trusted Thai girlfriend.

Simply put I live in Paradise!

If you ever get a girlfriend let me know.

  13. a little off topic but i'd like to understand how they name the gasoline here.

in europe the numbers are used to qualify the purity of gasoline so 95 is higher than 91 and thus more expensive while here it's the opposite.

    could someone explain this please?

    thanks

Could you explain your question because I have never seen 95 gasoline cheaper then 91 gasoline. In fact it's long time ago I have seen 95 gasoline.Maybe you are confused with 95 gasohol which is gasoline mixed with ethanol,so cheaper to produce.

What they call 95 here is actually 95 % gasoline it is NOT a measure of octane, therefore it is cheaper than 91 which is 100% gasoline.

  14. what download speeds are you getting on your slingbox here in thailand and what ISP do you use?

650-800 kbps on a Maxnet 4 Mb Premium account. Before I had Indy 2Mb, and most of the time it worked also fine.

The bottleneck is not the Thai ISP, it's the upload at home (in my case 1 Mb up)

I get about 700 kbps ON TTT adsl 512 I get a very good picture I LOVE IT

  15. My sister-in-law recently got divorced from a German man. He is now coming around saying that if he dies, the child will receive no support whatsoever. The reason for all this, I have no idea, but my wife wants me to ask about this, to any of you, who may have the answer. My wife knows, that if I should die, our son will receive survivor benefits until he is 18 years old. I have already done the paperwork should this happen. I would imagine Germany has similar benefits for children. The child in question (my Nephew) lives here in Thailand, he has dual Nationality, and the parents were married 14 years. I cannot read German, nor do I know someone whom I can ask for this info. Please supply the answer should you know it. My wife and her sister, will appreciate your assistance.

The German government has benefits for children of German parent(s).

IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE IF THEY LIVE OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY

    Benefits are still payable.

All answers can be provided at the German embassy.

I am always amazed at the people who get on this site and spew such WRONG answers and remarks.

  16. Does anyone know how long it takes to travel from Korat (Bus Terminal) to Khao Yai ?

    And what bus number ?

I plan to visit the Khao Yai winery and survey the baans at Tanarat Road.

It will take about an hour to get to Pak Chong from there you can rent a mode of transportation to get to Khao Yai.

The winery is not near Tanarat Rd

  17. Can anybody tell me what I need to do to just fly my gal over to the states for just a visit?

    Any help is appreciated....Thanks

What is required is clearly stated on the USA embassy site that someelse has provided.

I went through this process it is very straight forward, the bottom line is your girl will have to show enough evidence that she will return to Thailand.

We brought a stack of documents they were never looked at once they informed that I lived here in Thailand they gave her the visa it took about 3 minutes for the interview.

So my suggestion would be if she does not have enough documentation to convince them you should wait until you move here. Then make the application.

  18. Everday at Utapo Airport (about 30 minutes east of Pattaya) large Russian private jets land and unload 40 or so Russians who are whisked away in beautiful black Toyotas to Pattaya. What they do there is left to your imagination but they return with boxes and boxes of goodies (electronics, gizmos. clothing, etc). What up with this? Man, suddenly there are a lot of rich Russians! Also there's been an alarming influx of Russian prostitutes working in Pattaya because they attract Thai men. Red Dawn! :o

OIL Russia has a lot of it and the price is sky high which means that the russia elite (mafia) has money to burn!
