  1. That is new info about same day service. Thanks for the info.

Has the consulate moved to their new office or are they still close to the river.

    Hi ubonjoe.

On Tuesday morning travelling on the Int'l bus (Mukdahan to Savan) we passed the new Thai cons at approx 09.15hrs but alas, no movement outside of the building and no, this is not open as yet. The same old building applies.

Although I submitted proof of funds, original and updated Thai bank book and copy, this was returned to me as much to say, why did you submit this? In other words, proof of finance is definitely not required (as of yesterday).

    Cheers

  2. Have just returned from Savannakhet where I received a Non-Imm O visa multiple.

For those that are unaware, it's now same day service. I left Mo Chit Monday evening and arrived Savan Tuesday morning where I applied for visa at Thai Cons and collected same day at 1530hrs. Many buses to Mukdahan to BKK arriving here at 0600hrs this morning.

Recommended VIP bus which leaves Mo Chit at 2030hrs every day and operated by Sahaphanroied Co.Ltd. 32 seater with plenty of leg room costing only B620. The VIP buses operatated by Transport Co Ltd which cost B899 are aimed at the Farang and are no different to the ones costing B620, just fewer seats.

    Documents submitted

    1. Khor Ror 2 in lieu of original marriage cert

    2. Copies of: Marriage Cert, translation of, proof of finance, my passport, wife's ID card, house book and all signed together with B5,000.

    Enjoy.

  3. A couple of questions please.

I understand payments can be made every 4 weeks (13 payments a year). In my case Friday every 4 weeks and the transfer is actioned by Citibank in the UK.

    1. How many days before the payment is due, i.e. in my case Friday, is the transfer actually made and,

    2. what payment method is used, i.e. SWIFT, BACS?

Rather than telephone the Pensions overseas centre in the UK to ask the above questions, perhaps a member in this forum can provide the answers.

    Cheers

  4. I need to make this trip myself in Aug.. was this your first non-o? I am currently on a Non-o that I renewed in Thailand last year ... is it a problem to leave and apply for a new one in Savannakhet.. anyone out there doing this every year?? sorry for all the Q?? but I have not had to leave the country since 2009 had non-b and for a few years then moved over to Non-o based on marriage ... but had my lawer do it all ... dont want to pay through the nose any more and can't stand dealing with the local immigration department they had me running back and forward like a blue ass fly the last time ... so Savannakhet sounds like a easy go... is it only one night in laos? can you just book a return "premiere" VIP bus from Mochit or

    S.J.C

  5. What are the chances of getting a multi non o immigrant visa in Savannakhet if I don't have the original marriage cert (married in Thailand and certiciate lost in the UK)?

I have signed COPIES of all of the relevant documentation including more than sufficient funds in Thai bank account (if asked for). Approx 3 yrs ago I obtained a multi Non O from KL with only copies.

I understand that I can obtain a Khor ror 2 (entry of marriage) and I have been told by the local amphur that I will have to attend where I married due to the fact that I have been married for 34 yrs and therefore not in their system.

Considering the time I have (travelling tomorrow), should I temporarily postpone and obtain a KR2 to ensure application maybe granted?

  6. Again Mario, I understand what you are saying. I too was surprised when I attended school today and offered this one year visa and, as you stated, it is a requirement by law the 90 day reporting.

I will be going out shortly but if you would like me to scan a copy of the paper I was given (in both English and Thai) I will send it to you tomorrow by PM.

    Regards

  7. I understand that Mario. I have been in Thailand now for 11 years on non o immigrant visas (married to a Thai) and also a retirement extension.

I believe the school has made arrangements with Immigration for this one year ED visa. I doubt very much if there is anything 'dodgy' about this and also being a reputable school in central Bangkok/

  8. For your information, I attended my Thai language school today and they are now offering a one year ED retirement visa, i,e, no immigration extensions or 90 day address reporting required.

You are eligible for this type of visa if you are over 50 yrs and you will not be required to provide bank statements.

All paperwork will be handled directly between the school and immigration.

  9. I am studying the Thai language in central Bangkok and am now on my third 90 day extension.

As ubonjoe quite rightly states, as long as your school obtains the required documents from the MOE, not only can you apply for 90 day extensions over a long period but you will not have to leave the country, subject of course if you travel to another country then you will require a single or multiple exit re-entry permit obtainable from immigration.

Studying Thai can be enjoyable and it is, but you have to commit to learning the language and not abuse the ED visa as I believe many have done in the past.

  10. I can't recommend doing continuous border runs. It makes no sense to me because of the time and money wasted. One trip to Vientiane for a 2 entry visa gives almost 6 months with one border run and 2 trips to immigration for a 30 day extension.

The e-visa for Cambodia is a good option but you have to be sure and use the official website. http://evisa.mfaic.gov.kh/

I was waiting for someone to mention Vientiane and the 6 months stay.

If I myself was considering the options, I would obviously go for the double entry tourist visa......as you say, it makes sense.

  11. I'm enquiring on behalf of a friend who intends to stay long term in Thailand.

If indeed 30 day non-exempt entries are unlimited, what is the cheapest way in which to action these monthly runs?

I myself, am currently on an ED visa from a non-immigrant O multiple visa and from my experience over the years I have stayed in Thailand, I have suggested to him that the cheapest way is to bus travel from Mo-Chit or get the bus from Future Park, Rangsit and travel to aranyapretate which can be done in a day.

Cost of this trip very approximate:

Say round bus trip to Aran 360

    Tuk tuk to border 100

    Cambodian visa 1,000

Total 1,460 So let's say 1,500 to 2,000 baht monthly.

If this is the cheapest way, it would mean after 12 months stay in Thailand he would have 12 Cambodian visas using 12 pages of his passport. I would have thought that immigration would be concerned at the number of Cambodian visas in his passport.

I understand that he can go by way of the double entry tourist visa route but I am only talking about the 30 day NE visa entries.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

  12. Today, I received a monthly annuity payment from my pension provider in the UK. They, my pension providers, charge a small fee for this transaction of £2.85 to forward to my Thai bank.

The payment method is the same as what the UK government pension use, i.e. Citibank in the UK to Citibank Bangkok and onward transmission to my Thai bank. The pension service does not charge and I always receive the full amount of my pension into my Thai bank account.

On checking the annuity payment this morning, I found that Citibank Bangkok had taken B400 to transfer this annuity payment to my Thai bank account.

A bank to bank transfer within Thailand seems to me like a hefty charge.

My pension provider is looking into this but the last update I received earlier today was they have no control ever Citibank Bangkok.

Can anyone offer any information/advice in this respect?

  13. The subject heading to this thread is absolutely unbelievable.

Of course you have to attend in person so that the officer can test your knowledge of Thai (it happened to me at my very first time of 90 day extension), so be prepared. Furthermore, as Mario stated, you will also (if falling on or about the same date as you extension) be required to report your 90 day address reporting which is a completely different department in CW.

    Enjoy.
