I'm not sure if he is paraphrasing an immigration police officer or whether he is decided to editorialize in his Twitter comment, but we know that the claim you need to go to immigration only for the first time, is not true. With a new passport it also appears to be a requirement to turn up.

As to his last paragraph that "it is getting better", that is simply not true. 15 years ago, this requirement was in place but was not enforced. That was the best of times. Since it has been enforced, the improvements have been painfully slow, and from a very low baseline.

I have just renewed my UK passport. Does this mean I can do the next 90 day as usual ONLINE?

At least I did first online, no issues.

However if you have new passport that has no 90 reports history, first one had to do in-person couple of years ago

I have just renewed my UK passport. Even though I have successfully done it online in the past, am I correct that the next one has to be done at Jomtien immigration?

  3. I have now received my new UK passport and need to transfer all necessary info from old one to new one. I have been quoted by agent 2,500 baht to do this. If I were to do this myself, what would I need to take to Jomtien immigration and what is the procedure. I am a sick, 82 year old so unless it is easy I will use the agent to do it.

i just got a new US passport, as my last extension was issued in Trang and i am in Phuket, rather than dela with transfer the stamps to new passport and than file the 90day i am just going to use the mail service an send copies off all relevant pages to Bangkok.

How do you know what the RELEVANT pages are. This Thailand?

  5. I am in the process of renewing my UK passport and expect to receive the new one before the end of the year. I normally do my 90 days online but understand that after getting a new passport, I will need to go to Immigration in Jomtien for the first one with the new passport. I will also need to transfer all my visa etc. information from the old passport to the new one. Is there an agent that anyone can recommend to do this for me and approximately how much will it cost?

But does your French pension provider specifically require life certificates to be witnessed by someone "of suitable social standing" as is the case for the British State Pension? Or are they more easy-going as to who can perform the witnessing function?

I have it done by a consul in Pattaya and it goes on to a data base so can be accessed by private pension providers and also the government. My UK one I have done by my bank for 100 baht.

But legalised fraud, though, unfortunately, if that's not too much of an oxymoron. What particularly gets my goat is that, not content with freezing our state pensions, HMG then goes and adds insult to injury by tax-coding some of us as if we were in receipt of the full current triple-lock whack! And, if that was not bad enough, HMG then goes and rubs further salt into our wounds every couple of years or so by subjecting us to the life certificate witnessing process in just about the most cumbersomely bureaucratic, awkward and antediluvian manner imaginable to Man in the 3rd decade of the 21st Century!!

With my French pension I have to supply a Life Certificate annually.

  8. I am looking for a good Maxxi tyre supplier in Pattaya for my Honda CRV. Any recommendations re name and location.

  9. My wife is planning to buy a rabbit and cage to put in our garden. She obviously has too much spare time left after looking after me.

Does anyone know of a suitable pet shop in Pattaya where we could find them. On the Darkside would be preferable.

We have two Honda CRVs both have Maxxis tires all round on them, no trouble and no concerns with them ever.

Replaced two on the front of one of them after quite a  few years and many miles a couple of weeks back, at the Maxxis place on Sukhumvit just South of Pattaya   (southbound carriageway)  B3100 each, if you buy four price drops a little.

Maxxis has manufacturing plants in Taiwan, China, Thailand, Vietnam, the United States, the Netherlands, and India. The tires made in these plants are shipped to over 180 countries all over the world.

Do you know what model of Maxxi tyres you got?

    235/60 R18?

I see..those Westlake and Maxxi tires are decent, mid-level tyres.

Dunlop and Michelin are some of the highest rated tires you can buy, thus the high price. Michelin's are very durable and long lasting. Dunlops have softer rubber, very good performance, such as traction and braking.

The Dunlops would certainly be better but the Westlake's and Maxxi's will be fine if you're on a budget.

What about Bridgestone. I see several shops in Pattaya supplying those.

  12. I am about to buy 4 new tyres for my Honda CRV. I am looking for a cheap solution as I don’t do many klms a year or drive much on motorways. I was offered today in Pattaya, suitable size 18 Westlake and Maxxi tyres for just over 3000 baht each. Dunlop are asking about 5400 baht. I was wondering if any informed reader has any opinion on these particular makes.
