Over-hyped for sure but hardly that.

No it really is horrible. An a different subject I tried the Lager beer tonight which was ok, not a patch on Federbrau though, also tried the dark beer which was no to my taste. I will stick to Federbrau at home then and San Mig light when I go out, not many bars sell Federbrau, which is a shame.

This is the key, you have to actually be a tourist.

Tourist Visa or Visa Exempt only, yes they do check.

That may be what they say but in practice no. I exited Thailand in May with a Retirement extension and re entry permit. Presented the form, passport and the product to the desk at BKK (Far right in entrance hall) and they stamped the form. Once airside went to the VAT refund desk and was paid out in full.

Chips are a joke. 10 chips and lots of air!

I dont care what American's call them, they are called crisps. Chips are fried and are served with fish or pirs etc. Whilst we are on the subject, Pants are mens underwhere not trousers and todays date 07/11/23 not 11/07/23

Tell that to those that couldn't return under the travel restrictions when those with a marriage extension could.

It is not really the view of expats that count.

BTW Done both and had home visit on retirement.

That is not correct. When the restictions were in place I returned on a retirement extension with proog of marriage. Yet again your posts are incorrect.

We saw during Covid that those with marriage extensions had higher priority and a few more rights than the retirement extension.

Retirement extension seems a bit more exposed to ever changing rules.

Thats not exactly correct. If you had a retirement extension but were married you had the same right to enter Thailand as someone on a marriage extension.

Banks, and individual branches of banks, may have their own 'rules'. I switched banks to Kasikorn in September, they had set requirements to open a new account - passport with visa, yellow book, pink ID card. Easy process then.

Last month the fuel pump on my motorbike died, fortunately near a repair place open on a Sunday afternoon. They couldn't source a new Yamaha one till Monday, left it there, found a motorbike rental place, not in a tourist area , the only ID they'd accept was either the Thai or foreigner pink card. Away I went on a Scoopy 24hrs for 310baht.

It's also requested on entries for running events I enter, have five between now and February and part of the online registration process.

    For me, at least, useful.

    And it cost 60 baht.

Not the case in Pattaya. Last April my wife's Thai friend came to visit for a few weeks from Sweden. She wanted to rent a motorbike whilst she was here. My wife drove here around all afternoon without success. No Thai only Farang was the standard reply.

good for you but not my experience....and i would have been happy to come back later if only someone had told me and others that was an option...but no we were all told to go sit and wait and after 45 mins then the guy comes out and says come back later so another 45 mins (for me longer for some others) of waiting that could have been avoided IF someone had so advised.

So you had a wasted morning, what else did you expect? In and out in 5 mins? My last visit to Jomtien was a few weeks ago. I turned up at 09.45 to get my extension stamp transferred to my new passport. I was out of there by 10.00. Picked up my passport the next day. Easy

Granted I have never done a 30 day extension but its standard at Jomtien for a retirement extension. As an aside I always wonder why people go to immigration so early in the day. You gain absolutely nothing as many other people have the same idea. I have always gone about 09.30 no queues minimal waiting same deal, come back later to collect.

Due to  the weather, the  crazy  prices  of   1  pint of beer, and a beer shandy at  15 pounds ( not in central London)

Where did you go to drink that? The Ritz? I struggle to think of anywhere in the UK where you would have to pay £15 for a beer and a shandy. In a Wetherspoons it would be about £6 or £7, even in an expensive pub, no more than £12. Maybe you went to an exclusive club like Claridges.

  10. I sometimes think people who deal with the hassle of paying their bills must be bored and need something to do to fill there days. I pay my internet, Water and Electric by direct debit. You set it up and forget about it. I check to see if its all gone through if I have a need to go into the banking app. Easy.
