  1. I had an interesting pm some one wishing to sell me 100 rai of trees, after I stated I know little about the business!

I would be interested in knowing what sort of price they were trying to get for 100 rai and location and age of trees . It's been a tough few years and the locals are having to sell small parcels of their rubber plantations to get the banks of their backs. We picked up 10 rai with 10 yr old good producing trees for 900000 Bt earlier this year. Even if prices are currently down for production of rubber. I will still be miles ahead with just the predicted land prices in the years to come .

Dont put all your eggsin one basket , keep most of your investment choices in your home country and just like gambling. Be prepared to lose everything if sh#@ goes pear shaped.

    Just my 2 cents .

Didn't get any details as I had a change of mind, just a fleeting thought of riches from rubber just like when I thought of having a bar in Phuket, thankfully I wake from these dreams quickly. As I have no farming back ground best look for something else, as for a drinking in bar background thats another story.

Some properties I looked at: 60 rai for BT4 mil 4000, 4yo trees. many smaller trees bending over and supported by bamboo props, not sure what that means. Sorry a bit vague on the area, near my gf's home in the Chaiyaphum district in some hill country near the Chulabhorn dam.

25 rai 800 mature producing trees first price mentioned by the guide? 1.2 mil, price from owner 1.3, price from owner the next day on phone 1.5 ?

As you rightly point out there may be value in land price in the future.

  2. Hi oziex1

My recomendati8n to you is , DONT.Future of rubber is not looking good at all..Many countries who were not growing rubber before, are now growing millions of rai. They can have cheaper wages than Thailand.I wouldnt do it now, but Im here now so we keep going. Many ways to make money better than rubber.

The fqrmers who have nice houses.I can guarrantee you they diddnt buy them at 30 bart per kilo for kee yang and 60 bart a kilo for sheet.

Anybody wanting to sell there yang to you will be very happy to think somebody will buy it.

I wont even go into your other questions as I dont recomend doing it at all.

    KEEP YOUR MONEY

    Thanks Cobbler

I did detect a feeling that the people selling were trying to unload the poorer performing chunks of land, nothing wrong with that. I guessed that the good times may have passed. I'll look for something else to do.

  3. I read a few years ago that diabetes would be the number one problem in Thailand based on the amount of sugar used in nearly everything they eat and drink.

Its not just a Thais it's happening all over the world with the kids and the internet games which they play for hours on end when they could be out playing and exercising and unfortunately parents are using these games to act as babysitters when they should be encouraging the kids to take up a sport.

Shame with the obesity with all the great healthy food that's available in

Sugar is the new tobacco, as you point out it is in everything. It is also offered as a condiment to be added to food that already contains sugar.

We will eventually discredit Big Sugar as happened with Big Tobacco, but in the meantime they don't give a damn!

  4. Of course, Rawai is so much better, right? cheesy.gif

Actually, the roads in Rawai and Nai Harn are pretty good.

Kudos to whoever is in charge of them.

I agree Patong is battered. But, I imagine, give it a few more years and they might even get that new road completed.

They probably should have kept it closed until finished.

Certainly the roads that I cycle when passing through Rawai are generally in good condition. Rawai beach road has the best designated private vehicle parking areas that I've seen anywhere on the island, with properly marked spaces for motorcycles along the sidewalk next to the beach, and car parking spaces on the other side of the beach road (must be parking for over 100 cars along that road).

Agreed but when are they going to fix that hole in the sea wall thats taken out the pavement?

  5. Hi All

Been having a look at some rubber plantations around the Chaiyaphum area and would like to get involved in rubber production, at this timeI know very little about the business. Looks like it has been successful for many judging by their homes cars etc.

A few questions, what is a chanote when buying land seems most of the properties I have looked at do not have, have only a document that seems second to a chanote.

The future of rubber production in Thailand?

Future for small producers, 20-30 Rai?

Producing rubber in sheets, labour intensive?

Where can I monitor the rubber price

    Moving forward, alternative crops?.

    Cheers

  6. What an idiot!

I wouldn't have him teaching tricks to a dog let alone English to a Thai. At 63 why isn't he retired anyway?

"Why isn't he retired"? Because we don't have good pensions in America anymore and the middle class has eroded exponentially over the last 20 years. Unless you're lucky enough to have been a high paid executive or have a good government job or high ranking military job, you're left with Social Security at age 65 which is very small money (if you take SS early at age 62 it's really small) and you must pay very high medical insurance costs (we don't have the NHS like the UK or government health care like Canada that's included as a citizen benefit). Plus our property prices have not gone thru the roof and exploded like UK property owners who got lucky and became millionaires just because they bought a flat in London 20 years ago. So, unless you made big money and invested wisely most Americans have to continue to work as long as they are physically able, that is, if they even have a job that pays a living wage. Now 40% of Americans make less than the 1968 minimum wage (inflation adjusted). That's one of the reasons I live here because of financial concerns...

Yep, Australia wants to be like this as well, I feel for older Australians who did not acquire property or lost it in failed marriages. They have nothing and a pension will not pay rent. See you all in Thai or other developing nation.

  7. Oh please, this is a serious state of affairs an action brought about by greed is not going to give any concessions to the greedy in tourist ghettos. Sorry to the people touring but if you can't enjoy your self without getting smashed, bad luck, or drink and get the girls in the day.

    Good luck Thailand

BTW I am in Phuket, went to bar at 6pm left at 9.40 had a great time.

  8. OK although things seem clear to me or as clear as possible in the LOS, I'm about to return to Phuket after 7 days back in Australia, I will be on my second 3 month tourist visa 60+30 days. I am about to apply for my visa in Perth tomorrow. I do not have a history of multiple entries using the 30 day visa exempt system.

I believe i will have no trouble entering Thailand, I Think?

I think you will be fine as you have pre-arranged your tourist visa each time, and have headed back to Australia in between. I'm and aussie and did this sort of thing many times before I was given my non-imm type 0 visa after I had my baby (half thai, six years ago now).

If you have your return flight to Australia, or a flight from Thailand to another country, you will especially be okay. If not, you can say you are going overland or whatever. I would think you don't have enough history of visa runs etc to make them even raise an eyelid, but I'm not expert.

Let us know how you get on and good luck!

Flew into Phuket this morning feeling a little apprehensive about entering on my second 60 day tourist visa this year, Spent 10 days in Perth after flying out of Phuket, asked the good people at the Thai consulate in Perth about the current situation they had no knowledge of the recent crack down, just started giving advice about being careful if I was going to BKK.

Three immigration gateways were manned with about 5 officials at each, bloody hell I thought I was going to get mobbed and taken down then I saw the sign on the counters TRAINEE, the crowds were there to mentor the newbees.

Breezed through as usual no questions, no check of ticket out, finances, where I was planning to stay or anything. Hmm will I be able to do this in 3 months from now? Also the airline in Perth didn't ask for proof of a return ticket?

At Phuket airport while waiting for the baggage to appear on the carousel, I noted a young Russian family happily playing with their children to pass the time. Quality tourists I think yeah,

She was not travelling on a tourist visa (hers had long since expired); ergo, your circumstances of travelling on a new tourist visa make your situation entirely different.

Your reward for following the rules?

    Entry to LOS ;-)

Yep I'm doing it correctly too may others including the Russian lady are taking the piss, as stated in many posts above, no countries will tolerate this.
