  1. I have an IPM Box connected to a Satellite Dish externally, I was in the UK for 3 months came back TV  ok.

The following day we were having power cuts and a drop in the power supply intermittently.

Since then I am getting a message on the TV 'No Signal' ?

I live in Pattaya the system is only 1 year old, non subscription, similar to Freeview in the UK, around 200 channels.

    Anyone having similar problems ?

According to this she needs to apply whilst in her country of residence (Thailand)...https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/apply-from-uk/

I guess the only way to find out for sure is to contact the embassy of the country you want to visit.

But, with so many great places to take her in the UK, why would you want to go to Europe?

Take her to London (is there a more historic city?), Devon, Cornwall, Wales,

Northumbria (my favourite part of England - Lindisfarne - across the causeway, Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick, Berwick upon Tweed, etc.).

Anyway, have fun - wherever you go.

London trip already planned plus trip too Scotland, I lived and worked in Malta for 3 years, nearly settled there but after the Euro was introduced the cost of living went through the roof so decided not too. A great place too visit, very historical with some great places to see if you know where to go.

  3. i will be travelling to the UK with my GF and our 2 year old son in couple of weeks staying for 12 weeks.

i am a UK Resident so I don't need Travel Insurance to cover Medical costs but I will be taking a Policy out for my GF, will I need Travel Insurance for our son, he has a UK Passport?

  4. If I die in Thailand I have no intention of being shipped home, I have no property/car here etc. just enough in the Bank for every day living.

What is the cost of a basic cremation and how would I arrange for it too be paid ?

Could I write into my UK Will my wishes stating my daughter would transfer the money to my GF too pay for it from my estate ?.

  5. We applied for a UK Vistitor visa for my GF, no job, no money in the bank no property etc.

We provided proof we were cohabitating, letter from house owner, photographs, old passport with stamps of coming and going over the last 3 years

i have my own property in the UK so provided proof of ownership plus muy UK Bank Statements indicating I had enough funds too support her.

The Sponsors Letter for me is the most important thing too get right explaining how you can guarantee they will return too Thailand, I must have wrote and rewrote it a dozen times.

it was granted, took around 2 weeks, lots of legwork, visits too the Internet cafe for printouts, translations, got a decent deal from a company in Bangkok, scanned documents and the translations were returned via EMS.

I must admit I received some great advice from posters on Thai Visa, I had thought about using an Agent but you do all the legwork they just put it in a package, 30000 baht plus.

I don't trust the scanning - unless they provide some kind of way for me to check that they haven't missed out scanning any documents, I'll send all the supporting documents direct to Sheffield via fedex or ups.

All documents go to VFS in Bangkok irrespective of what you are applying for Visa or Passport, is this a wind up about sending them too Sheffield?

Do you need to complete the online application and pay for the visa before booking the Biometrics appointment?

You complete the online application, pay then make an appointment to hand in the documents, the biometrics are taken after you handed in the documents in the same area but in a small room off the waiting area.

  8. When we applied for a UK Visa for my GF there wasn't much choice of times and dates. We eventually got one but we waited nearly an hour after the appointment time too be seen,. We were told its busiest time of the year, fortunately the Waiting Area is big enough to accommodate those waiting', I think there were over 30 counters, some Australian I think. They did say only the person applying for the Visa would be allowed in but we had our 2 year old and they allowed the 3 of us in.

What I would say is when we left in the afternoon it was nearly empty so maybe go for an afternoon appointment, ours was 11.50.

Considering this topic is nearly 12 months old and the OP has not returned to it or started a new one asking for further advice, I suspect that he, his girlfriend and her son have had their trip to the UK and are now back in Thailand!

I only applied for the Visa in March before that I was gathering all the info required, getting the various documentation, translations, photographs etc, we are going in June/July

Sorry if this has been covered but I am afraid I haven't read all the posts.

I moved here from the Uk over two years ago.  I am now 62.

I rent my house out via a letting agent.  They should tell you about the tax situation.  You can receive your rent with no tax taken out so long as you fill in a form and send to HMRC.

Do not sell your house.  I have known so many people who have sold their house in the UK to move abroad, something happens and they want to come back to the UK.  Then they find they cannot sell their house (whereever it may Be) or cannot get back on the housing ladder. especially if they come from the South of England.

Don't buy anything over here unless you are determined to lose your dosh.

Keep a mailing address in the UK for all correspondance from HMRC, hospitals, gp surgery.

If you return to the UK for whatever reason, make an appointment well in advance with you GP/Nurse to get your BP checked/urine checked for diabetes.  This ensures you remain on their books and they won't 'delete' you from their list.

With regards to your state pension, don't forget you have to apply for it 3 months in advance.

Also with regards to your lady all i can say is good luck.

Good luck with obtaining your visa - I wish I had known about Ubonjoe and this site before I came here - life would have been much easier.

I go back to the point of NHS Healthcare, a previous poster said you are entitled to free treatment if over 65 years old, I can't find any info stating this.

My understanding is if you are out of the UK.for more than half the year you are classed as 'non resident'  therefore no free NHS Treatment. The Tax rules are different, my local hospital always asks you if you have been Resident in the UK for the last 6 months irrespective of how old you are.

  11. You are liable for UK Tax if you own a property and spend more then 30 days in the UK. Residency rules changed under George Osborne, it used to 90 days irrespective if you owned a property or not, you will still have your £11500 tax allowance.

If you haven't lived in the UK for 6 months prior to any NHS treatment you have to pay one and half times the cost.

You will pay CGT on any profit from the sale of you property if you rent it out for more than 2 years, based on the valuation at the time of renting it out.
