Wish you people would stop talking like this, my stewardess girlfriend of the time talked me into buying shares when THAI went public at B60 per share.Wonderful investment I must say--not.

Yes, I often think about it, having spent a night in there back around 1985

I had just started work on Bangkok that month.
And my 10th year, we had work in gas plant, pipelines, refinerys, crude oil tank farms etc, and in my near 20 years of that never encountered any accident anywhere near as horrific here in Thailand

I was working in BKK then, was a hell of a mess., many of the dead were very upper-class jus heading home some big function.

I'm not sure if it worked but in central London which has a pigeon problem too they let poeple feed the birds but the birdfeed was "impregnated" with contraceptive.
Releasing them into nearby woods seems a bit daft to me as they have great homing abilities so will just fly back !We have the flying rats around my place and seems they don't like trees, concrete is their favourite, so I have palms and other plants all over my balconies. Wish I had bought an air rifle years back when you could.

Hopefully they will keep the rat in Bangers Hilton forever, NZ jails are already overflowing.

Last time I did it I flew THAI using my airpoints; they gave me a return boarding pass at swampy and on the return I sat in the adjacent seat to the one I went out on. Did have to pay 150baht for my carparking.

Been a while since I've had to go to Sriracha immigration office, but as a pure guess. it is likely because this office seems now to be more focused on the border country migrants and perhaps they have been told to refer the others to Jomtien?
In the 12 years that I worked in that area, all of the extensions were done at Sriracha and that was the biggest change I saw, it went from being a reasonably quiet office to a busy one because of it.
Yes thanks for that; it was always full of factory staff over the past 8 years or so and I was guessing what you are saying was; is how it is now. You would think there would be some kind of sign outside or leaflet or something. The 2 main glass doors still have a list in English of what they did do which was pretty well everything.

A bit of a sideline here but can anyone tell me what the story is at SriRacha Immi office these days. Last year I went there to do a visa extension; they told me to go to Jomtien.
Yesterday I went there to get a residence letter for opening a new bank account; they said again "go to Jomtien".
I live in SriRacha, what is the story here.

If ever there were a thread which provided a good opportunity for people to remind us how long they have been in Thailand (for the 20th time) this is probably it. The current record I am aware of is 35 years. Anybody can beat that?
First came here in 1966 then many short visits every year following then came to work in 1980 and still here; retired of course. I remember being shown a bit of rice paddy about where Italthai headquarters are on Petchburi, my gal at the time said I could have bought for her for 15,000 baht

I've stuck to Toyota in Thailand since 1981 and have had about 3 minor problems over that time in 2 of the 9 or so vehichles; one of which made in Australia.

No doubt this topic has been run previously, anyway last December 27th while waiting for my laptop to get some repairs I went to Krungsri Bank branch to get my expiring card replaced. On the way home decided to use it at a Lotus Express outlet and as has happened before the girl swiped it in one machine but it didn't work so put in another and it paid the 465baht charge. I usually use my BBL card so decided this time to check my Krungsri acct online and saw that I had been charged twice 465baht. Went to the Lotus store next day and a guy there filled in some form and made a heap of phonecalls I think to their bank BBL.Was told it would take awhile to be straightened out; reported it to my Krungsri branch who called me yesterday 18Jan to say it would take 45 days.
The same happened to me at a Toyota service last year to the tune of 9000baht or so and they reversed that in about 3 days, I had used my BBL card there and maybe Toyota use BBL too; but maybe the Krungsri/BBL interface at Lotus isn't the same.
Have seen my card and other peoples, put through different readers on quite a few occasions, maybe happened to me before and I have never picked it up so from now on I will be looking very carefully at my accounts.

A good steak at Mizu's Kitchen after a Singha or 3 at Madrid Bar back in late 60's early 70's was always good; always worth paying the 7.5baht taxi fare from Sukhumvit to go get it.

I had to replace my Bridgestone tyres which were on our Hilux when delivered new. Toyota Chiang Mai said: THB 8,000 per tyre, and it takes 6 to 8 weeks as they need to come from Bangkok. I said thank you and good bye. Half an hour later I had 4 new Good Year tyres mounted at the Good Year shop on Highway #11 near Central Festival for THB 19,000, with a free check after 10,000 km.....
Similar story; my new Vigo was fitted with Michelins; after about 45,000KM all 4 started showing perishing around wheel-rim/bead area; tread still looked very good. Made a change to Firestones which are still in good shape at 120,000Km

Just a quick word; I would say be prepared for a hell of a lot of traffic that time of the year.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed; many times I have seen mainly diesel utes accelerate and blow a big cloud of black smoke out the exhaust; wagons mostly look reasonably new; are these idiots adding something to the fuel??

Just got back to Thailand after a few weeks away and started getting SMS's from "TALK CLIP" to my TRUE H phone; gawd knows who they are- anyway found it cost about 6baht from my credit every time; finally got TRUE to shut them off.

But it's just wonderful to see the optimists carrying on the building of real necessities like TERMINAL 21 with its 24 floor hotel; I'm sure Russians and loads of others are lined up trying to book in there already.

The friend I was talking about has lived and worked in Thailand for many years, petro-chem construction etc; has plenty of assets in NZ; has sponsored other Thais over the years without problem but the latest app was turned down due to "insufficient evidence of travel plans within NZ" and "evidence of return travel".
To him sponsorship includes all required support, adherence to NZ regulations/laws etc, and departure within visa validity. And a return air TKT was submitted with app showing a roughly 2 month stay.
Not difficult to have a return ticket and plan in advance enough to deposit money is a bank every month, right ?

Slightly off topic bv wondering if anyone has had my problem. Approx 4 year old VIGO loses pic from reversing camera after rain., but if no rain for a few days comes back to normal. Have sealed around the camera but still happens. Toyota where I go to service have no idea as a couple of auto elect shops don't either.
