LOL. I left the country many years after I left my partner and her children, during which time none of them tried to stay in contact, so nothing to regret never seeing them again.
Now your in new Zealand, any regrets ? What would you do differently ????

I did not walk out on my EX and moved to Thailand and yes, I was married for about 30 years and we both moved to Thailand together. Long story short, I met me Thai wife on one of our holidays and fell in love, got divorced and remarried. I am not like most of your posters here I never blamed my first wife for braking up, it was my fault. Still married till today but moved away from Thailand because of financial reasons. So, stop blaming your EX all the time some time it is yourself.
Wow !
So you met your current wife (Thai) on a holiday to Thailand with your now ex wife?

Hi Sid, after I returned back from hospital tests in the UK (see post above), I planned to return to Burma to continue my in-class teaching. However for the second time the military junta refused to issue me with a visa. So with that situation and bearing in mind my cancer 'scare', I decided to retire from in-class teaching and only teach online (which I have mostly been doing for the past few years anyway).
After recovering from the UK climate on Phangan Island for a couple of months I moved back to Luang Prabang in north Laos where I was once the Principal of the international school. When I start to draw my UK pension (in only 22 months from now yippee), I will probably move down to live in Vang Vieng because with the new railway and motorway it's only an hour or 2 from Vientiane and the only decent private hospital in the country (although exercise/good diet keeps me healthy, I am mindful of my age and assume that other medical ailments may arise).
My small but adequate pension will also enable me to spend more time doing voluntary teaching in the community ????
Wasnt you living in Madagascar at one stage?

On my recent visit I checked out several Pattaya gyms ,
3 were for sale.
Whilst I have no business experience in Pattaya I was very much thinking of leaving my job in Australia and buying a Pattaya gym
Unfortunately one guy didn't have financial books , all his machine were very old I would have to spend money on more and he wouldn't budge on his asking price, but I would have to install a shower as he had none
,another was very desperate to sell and rang me when I got back to Australia to say I can have 100k off his 3 million asking price and can move in tommrrw if I want,
I thought great until I saw his high monthly rent plus .. yes key money and knew no way he was making any money .
Unfortunately there seems to be no direct debit in Thailand.
So my question to you is in Pattaya what do you look for in a gym?
It appears Air con is number 1 going by my questions to some gym goers ,is that important?
What about machines? What machine do you want there?
Many gyms are crowded at 5pm and machines are taken up,is multiple machines important?
What about lockers ?
How important is shower facilities?
What about towel hire?
I notices in my Pattaya gym travels some didn't even bother to enforce the towel policy of Western gyms where you must have a towel !
Is 24 hour important to you?
Personal trainers?
But he honest is pricing important?
I know jomtien gyms are charging from 1400 to 1800 baht per month

Does Thailand have Zoning laws? I still amazed at how the infrastructure in BKK can support so many high rise condo buildings.
Theres a house owned by farang just near the Arcadia beach resort condos in Pattaya that has a construction site next to it ,they are building another condo.
The balconies will overlook his backyard

Certainly some sad stories
I recall two stories a few weeks ago ,talking to a 62yo bar owner sitting at my table ( no didn't buy him a drink )
He had tears in his eyes as he told me he uprooted from farangland after been married 30 years , left his native Belgium leaving his adult sons behind who have refused to speak to him ever since !!
"You left mum " they reply to him
" It was her fault" he said ,
She was nagging nagging every night after my work !!
He was tearing up ,6 years later he is living in a room on top of his bar, whether he is happy who knows
He lets his ex wife keep the house she pays him half rent but never spoke to her since ,strange case and sad
The second case was a cafe owner who only sees his grandkids via WhatsApp but the ex wife won't talk to him
He had a nervous breakdown in 2015 in the UK ,lost his job etc
"She caused me to have a breakdown he says
Decided on a trip to Pattaya to get away ,and decided 2 weeks later to leave ,his ex wife bought his half of the house and he has never been back
Strangely it's always the wife's fault !

How did you do it?
How did you make that first step to walk out in your ex wife / family and make it to to Thailand?
I know there's some heartbreaking stories , but I want to know especially you guys in your 40's 50's with children
Did you just walk out and say I want a separation I think I will have a better life in Thailand or Asia ?
Did you say to your farang wife who you may still love " it's time to go love , I need to start my life !!!
Your kids did they understand your separation ....did they understand your new life ...
Regrets on leaving ...how much heartbreak did you leave back in farangland

Yes i've always wondered why they are building so many condos, another 2,000 going up at the Grand Solaire near Pratamnack. I guess it's to launder dirty money.
The Arcadia is in a bad location. The bottom of a big hill and nothing close within walking distance. I would never buy anything that wasn't on the baht bus route and with some shops/bars in walking distance. Plus the rooms are very small. OK to rent out for short terms but you could never live in 26 sqm.
Yes your right , they are very small 1 bedroom 26sqm
But I love the pool and good gym they have , I think the building fees are 18k a year compared to the view talay which I heard was 45k???? could I live in such a small room all the time ??? No
-
Yes I do like some of those units in that road between Pattaya and jomtien but yes renting them out to tenant would be difficult.
-
A lot of new condos still being built and I must say I'm very tempted to buy a studio or 1 bedroom for the future.
I liked the Arcadia beach resort condominiums in jomtien ( well on the way to jomtien) I can't remember exactly where it is but I stayed there a few nights and enjoyed it
Does anyone live in Arcadia beach resort condos ( it's no where near the beach by the way)
But anyway the more I thought about it ,I couldn't live in a 1 bedroom 26sqm room and then there was tourist visitors with screaming kids by the pool to put up with.
The thing is ,those type will be hard to rent out to people if I needed money as a landlord and no resale value really
Some of these all completely same look inside ,no difference ranged from 1 million to 1.8 million.,I guess depending on floor
There is going to be too many condo going up ,the question is why ?
Do you think Pattaya / jomtien needs all these in the future?

I don't like pools
I saw the pool at the Nirun apartment
,I wonder if it's cleaned properly?

I guess though if your say 67 and on a aged pension from your country and you had around 300,000 baht spare then buying in the Nirun would be ok.
As long as I have a balcony ,air conditioning, and a good TV I would be happy .
I guess you would get used to seeing the old drunk farangs around as you walk to the supermarket etc .
The only thing I wouldn't like is if the neighbours are coughing everynight from smoking or music karaoke playing in the hallways outside your door or drunk farangs shouting etc.
Whatever the case it probably would be far far better to live in the Nirun than say the government housing of Birmingham or Sydney's Mount Druitt

Well it's obvious..and ...I must say interesting that there are no Nirun members on here !!!
I wonder why ? They aren't readers of Thai forums?

When I lived there a lot of the guys did not seem like they owned computers or had recent cell phones. Or if they did it was some old model that they did not really use unless just for calls.
The guys seemed too out of it to post ???? or be technologically literate however stupid that sounds. It was like old guys who were kind of confused and not real with it.
Your probably right ,they are too drunk or not technically advanced to post here.
Well at least we know that the residents of Nirun are not readers here .

I bet that BMW is still parked there in the carpark with dirt n dust all over it !!!
Surely there must be residents of Nirun on here ???

Well, to say it's low class is a bit bigoted in my humble opinion. But Nirum is a "low rent" and old condo project that is quite crowded and is pretty much as you describe. I used to do my laundry there 5 years ago since the laundry was close to my condo down the street and had proper wash machines. I regularly saw the kind of thing you are talking about. There was a restaurant bar next door to the laundry and more often than not a shirtless farang drunk off his ass sitting there being waited on and fed Leo after Leo. I've seen rents as low as 6000 etc there. Small rooms from what I remember.
Yes 10 in the morning drunk farangs , I think rents are lower than 6k a month I heard 4k

Yes people I notice tend to want to disagree with you if you post and they make up BS I believe.
So they wrote they were away 7 years from Australia and still got it( pension) on arrival, whether they did ,how they did ,who knows?
Some just want to post to disagree with you even if it's not true.
Do I believe them,no !!
