  1. ok, i'm fraking out so did Tin Tin finally get a home or a at least a safe santurary? last told he had dissapeared and did not return for dinner. What happened?

Hey, thanks for your concern. He's ok. :)

It turns out Tin Tin outsmarted me last night, and hid out of the way until way past his usual taken-away time.

Oh man, he is one smart pup...

I would think we should have him run for political office showing more brains than the current crop that Thailand has had for the last few years but, being smart as a whip, he would probably head-off and hide. That is good everything turned out for him. I bought my wife a golden retreiver labrador puppy, not a puppy anymore, about three years of age, and she is treated like a queen in the living block where she stays with the aunt. My wife is returning to Thailand so we can start building a house where said labrador, named Terra, will have air conditioning for the rest of her life. Tin Tin alwas looks as if he is smiling.

  2. But with all this praise continually flowing I couldn't keep it in any longer.

Hmmm... all this has really got under your skin, eh?

Fortunately this thread is not about either you or me - it has been all about trying to find a home for a homeless dog that deserves a better life.

That said, abandoning any pet is WRONG

In your race to display your pathetically righteous indignation, you seem to have missed the point:

Tin Tin is not anyone's pet - he is homeless.

Any additional comments from you on this matter will from now be totally ignored by me.

Many thanks again to Womble for taking Tin Tin, and also to Elfe for backup if it's not possible for him to stay at Chaweng beach.

Hopefully I'll be able to bring him on the boat to Samui this coming Monday.

And many thanks to all that truly care. :)

  3. My wife has some land in Phitsanoluk, chanote title, which she wants to sell but we have no idea on pand prices there. Can anyone advise?

Another dumb question: how does a rai compare to an acre? I have about 3000-4000 U.S. saved for land.

    1 rai = 0.3954 acre

    1 acre = 2.529 rai

Land prices vary depending upon use (farming, residential, business, industrial, etc.), access (road, electric, water, etc.) and other such variables including type of land title and location within the Province.

Thank you for that info sir.

  4. That is just nostalgia. I bet you get all goose pimply about Reagan too. Now the world knows the current Thaksin led a failed violent revolution attempt and is a wanted fugitive. Time to move on and away from that empty dream.

Let me guess, you drank the liberal kool-aide and now thing Regan was a tyrant and didn't bring back America's pride and power? I think you need to stop watching the news and actually learn it Really Really.

  5. Vote You bloody cowards!!!!! What shirt would you wear?!?!?! Comeon you Bangkok elitists, get off your farang high-horse and vote. Comeon, you backwood bo-hicks, get off your buffalo and vote. All those supporting KFC, drop your chicken and vote!

Whoa now, I will engage in Gorilla warfare that makes the red shirts look like Ghandi if KFC is in danger! LoL

I secretly support KFC, I got hooked on those pita chicken sandwhich thingies...well, I guess it is not a secret if I just said it...but I still voted down. Up with crispy fried chicken!!!!

  6. moral to the story(?) if you see Thai people arguing, stay clear.

If it appears they're drunk and there are weapons involved, duck for cover.

However, on the other side of the coin, there are some among us who might be inclined to step in to try and rescue someone being browbeat. pedestrianus emptor.

Hope they caught the a**hole with the gun - and get him to suffer the full weight of the law.

This happened in Pattaya a few years ago, 2 brits pulled a thai off a restarant owner that was getting slapped,, he returned later with a gun and killed 2 of them, as advised elsewhere, keep out of thai arguments, they dont value life as we do and dont consider the consequences of their actions, . :)

Thais do value life when they are sober and calm. What's frightening are the petty things that can take that calmness away. There are violent people everywhere in the world. Thailand is probably unique in that even a sarcastic remark or a caring criticism can get you killed by people who are not even gangsters by any stretch of the imagination.

It is called "face" or "saving face". They aren't thinking beyond that.

  7. Why can we not edit our own post after posting it and leaving the forum for elsewhere?

Occasionally I'll go back and spot an error I made but didn't see after posting and I would like to change it later. I can't seem to do so except immediately after posting to a topic. :)

You can, you just can't wait for ever. Get on it man!

  8. Thanks for the info, OMR.... Sounds like it will be part of their regular package... that's GREAT!!!!

fyi, it was interesting.... I was watching the Angels baseball game Sat. on ESPN, and noticed when they showed the box score graphic on the screen, it was showing as the YES network....

That's the name, I believe, of the HK cable operation that ASN is part of, if I recall correctly, from what I read yesterday. So it kind of makes sense they'd be carrying a MLB baseball game now...in Asia...since they supposedly hold the Asian rights now...

BTW, is it just me, or does ESPN here seem to be ignoring the Celtics-Bulls playoffs series??? I checked the True schedule, and saw a bunch of other games, but not any from the Celtics, including the upcoming final game 7 of their series...

    ASN....please come to Thailand SOON!!!!!

YES network is also the official network of the New York Yankees Baseball team.

  9. Well I just watched his speech and don't have a text link for this yet, but the gist of it that Obama is going to request that all foreign banks issue USA IRS 1099's to US nationals having accounts with them, and if they don't, the IRS will just assume the worse about the US taxpayers and tax accordingly.

The US government has to get the money somewhere and we are as good a target as anybody. Just a heads up, if you getting any income from Thai bank accounts, even piddly interest, you had best REPORT it. And don't forget your treasury forms due June 30. They are now asking for more specific info on the dollar amounts in these accounts. I smell some hassles coming for many of us, innocent or not ...

While most of us are small potatoes compared to the big corps like Coke which are the fat targets, they are hiring a bunch of new agents to focus on foreign issues, so we might be collateral damage. Enjoy ...

The president will also direct the Internal Revenue Service to more closely scrutinize the tax returns of individuals with offshore accounts and investments, which are often used to avoid paying U.S. taxes

There are already rumbles from his side of the aisle in the congress and the senate. Too many of them fall under that category. Nothing will come of it except to make an example out of a few of the companies who didn't support him. Somebody needs to remeind him that no economic downturn in the history of civilization has ever been corrected with tax-increases or non-productive spending. They always seem to think that they are the ones to finally make it work....

  10. Redneckedness transcends national barriers, it is a right wing, gun loving, petrol head attitude.

It seems to attract misogynist racists who believe in pseudo-science, conspiracy theories and chauvinism.

Their clothes sense (flannel shirts), their choice of beverages and the vehicles they drive are amusing to people of taste.

They do not own dictionaries so much of what I have just said will go straight over their heads.

My take from the Drummond article is that "when in Rome, do as the Romans do" - no country is fond of smart alec "advisers"

Right-wing? Uhm, have you checked out the Unionists, bub? Advisors.

  11. I have lost count of how many farangs have told me that they are friends with the chief of police, he must be a popular chap.

How come there are not ordinary soldier's here in Thailand, they all seem to be Navy Seals or Special Force's.

I'm just an ex-artillery soldier..nothing special...even though once I was asked by the C.I.A. to assist MI6 in helping the SAS to track down some ex-KGB who were working with former German Stazi impersonating Russian Spetznaz who were trying to overthrow the government of Laos but it turned out to actually be Vietnam...besides that just an average soldier.

your good, it looks like you just found me

    Crickey!!!

  12. Well the ex-British SAS I met in a bar in Bangkok was describing some of the clandestine SAS missions carried out in Vietnam during ' the American' war. Is there any truth to this, were the British SAS active in Vietnam? Always wondered.

    Just googled and found this:

There is no official information about any members of the British SAS having served in Vietnam. At the height of the Vietnam war the British SAS were heavily committed in Borneo, Aden and the Radfan. However British SAS instructors are regularly sent on attachment to both Australian and New Zealand SAS Squadrons. It is generally thought that a few British SAS personnel attached to the Australian and New Zealand SAS while they were deployed in Vietnam under the official title of instructor. After the war 70 British General Service Medals were issued with the Bar South Vietnam 1962-64. No Names or units are mentioned.

There was a couple Thai battalions in the Vietnam War. The Australains were involved a bit but no Brits.

  14. "

I was once in Angel Witch in Nana Plaza watching their dancing show when I struch up a conversation with an American guy who told me he used to work for DARPA (Defence Advanced Projects Research) which is basically a super black ops division of the US Dept of Defence... he didn't claim anything amazing, but was impressed that a young Brit knew what DARPA was. Anyway, he told me his team of people had disappeared and he was hiding in Bkk, doing various nefarious dealings with local money traders and keeping below the radar... apparantly, whatever he knew back in the states was a little too sensitive. "

Something tells me if the C.I.A. wanted to find you in Bangkok, they could. Just go to the bars and get drunk farangs to start talking. I can think of better hiding places than a gogo bar or a open air bar to hide.

  15. Did anyone ever meet the ex-US military guy that was here 4-5 years ago that dressed in Miami Vice type outfits, claimed he fought in Panama and Iraq and had killed between 17-26 people (depending on his mood at the time), including women and children? Went by the name of "Rock". Hung out in Gullivers Sukhumvit.

How much you want to bet that guy never served a day in the military? I guess cheap whisky makes you bold.

  16. Why is he now suddenly a Brit? Did anyone ask him? :) Or maybe OberK~ and Boycie are on the inside .... good one guys. Post Mortem time - student practice.

I was wondering the same thing, what automatically makes this guy a Brit? Lots of Canadians, Swedes, Germans, etc etc come here too.

    May he rest in peace.

"Mother Heart" must have been written in English.

Whilst it does not make him a Brit... it does assume he of native English speaking descent

    Mother Heart...Scott or Irishmen possibly?
