  1. Fair play to those of you who were up at 02.45 to watch it, I confess that on considering my options at 02.30, I decided to go back to sleep.

Wouldn't have expected anything more worthwhile from a troll.

  2. For EPL coverage your better off with I Like HD if you have adequate internet speeds which are relatively low any way.

For 450 baht a month I have all the arena channels from CTH and all the BT sport and sky sports channels it's been excellent,as I like cricket and a whole host of other sports.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check that out, too.

  3. The issue seems to be that CTH and PSI are involved in some sort of contractual dispute. PSI are losing a lot of other English language programmes in the next couple of months.

As I understand it CTH did not reimburse PSI for services rendered, which comes as no surprise. CTH has been cat shit from the beginning and never let up.
Your above response actually applies to all Pay TV services, satellite or cable here in Thailand, like many things they are light years behind.

Time for me to have a closer look at ExPatTV.

  4. Agreed, it is a trifle 'Dick'ish to say thank you in English when you live in Thailand.

    /quote]

Every Thai person answers the telephone with the word 'Hello'.

I would think most Makro staff would understand 'Thank you', so not 'Dick'ish at all.

I guess 'Dick'ishness is subjective, and I did say a trifle.

  5. SUMMARY: My wife has instructed her family that I do not like/want family/friends to drop by for a social "get together" and definitely when we move to Thailand in 2017 "NO" Thai family will use our home as a place to crash (neither for a night or longer). Don't care if it causes a problem with the family but I/we are consistent that our home isn't a bed-n-breakfast hotel.

My wife understands I don't like any surprises and no drama. I am consistent and firm with these ways, no exceptions.

As she has two (2) great boys from a prior marriage, we have discussed to push them for a strong education and when old enough to attend college at our cost. Post their college graduation, they need to find a job and look for their own funded residence.

Post they getting married, we will not be taking care of their kids. If they need to have kids it is up to them to raise them in their home, not ours.

BACKGROUND: My wife & I have been married now for 5-years. I am from the US and she is a Thai National. Since our marriage, we annually travel back to Thailand where she has a nice house about 1-hour north of BKK (in Nakon Nayok). When I/we retire to Thailand in 2-years, I/we will be buying a house fairly close to an Expat community. We don't drink alcohol or smoke, and like sports.

I previously worked/lived in Thailand for 2.5 years and know the Thai family ways of wanting to crash at a relatives house and eat their food.

What does this have to do with the OP post?

Man I would not want to be your relative as you sound like an unfriendly person.

Are you really going to push your kids out of your house after school? Most people like to have their kids/family around. My friend visited from the US and he stayed at my place for a week, he bought all types of food, gave some cash to the maid for the extra work and tried to give me money for letting him stay with me. It was nice having a friend stay for awhile. Same my wife's family and friends stop in from time to time and stay 1 or 2 nights. Her sister comes and stays for a month or so when her son is out of school. It's great to see them and spend time with the nephew. Her sister is awesome, cleans the whole house so my wife doesn't have to do thing when she gets home from work. I enjoy when family and friends stop in for a day or two.

Hope you enjoy Thailand when you finally get to move.

Couldn't have put it better myself. I am fortunate enough to have a great family both in England and here in Thailand.

We live in the sticks where most of my in-laws live, people are constantly in and out of each other's homes and more distant family and friends are always welcome here, it is a pleasure to take care of them, just as it was when we lived in England.

My wife's brother in Bangkok and her family here in the sticks always took good care of us when I (later "we") visited from England. My sister in law gave us a room in her house for holidaying / visiting when we lived in England, we lived there for three or four months while our house was being finished.

  6. I'll show this to some of my in-laws, they think my insistence on them belting up is a little eccentric. That said they very quickly learned that until they all had their belts on we would not be going anywhere.

I can understand locals not routinely wearing belts and helmets, among other things that "we" know better, as they really don't know any better. What I find difficult to understand is the lack of high profile educational campaigns similar to those that I remember from my yoof in Blighty - after all, they manage to delete every mild expletive from English language TV without any difficulty.

  7. Thanks for the replies and advice. They gave me a checklist before, my wife owns "our" house and will accompany me with her papers / book.

I have been through the Mrs BM attitude adjustment course in relation to dealing with Thai officialdom, so no issues with smiling and keeping patient.

We've asked them about TM30 on a few occasions but they don't seem at all interested.

I'll post an update next month after I submit my application.

  8. I'm going for my first extension of stay early next month. I'll have no problems meeting the criteria (55 years old, from England and have kept over 1m THB in a Thai bank for several months).

I've seen lots of posts about applying in CM, BKK, Phuket and Pattaya but nothing relating to my (not so) local office.

I went there for a letter re my address for my driving licence application and found them very helpful and efficient but I appreciate that this is a different process altogether, so, any advice would be appreciated.

  9. it can be cheap if you want or have to live like a poor Thai person but if you want to live like a real human I don't think its cheap, you win a few and lose a few. l don't live here cos its cheap, the money it cost me to live here I could live anywhere in the world.

Repulsive to suggest that poor Thai people do not live as "real humans". Repulsive.

Quite. A disgusting comment, clearly from a sick mind.

  10. The only rats I've seen here are the ones that my wife's uncle traps to eat. Being surrounded by rice fields there must be plenty. I was warned to keep away from any fields with red lights at night as it is to warn against the attempts to electrocute the vermin. Sadly one of our nephews was too pissed to heed that advice a while back and was killed.

  11. Wouldn't it make more sense to picture the other side of the dam, where the low level is?

Could be the other side does not look much different. Or maybe worse.

The other side is only a field, the picture shows the deep side of the dam

You really think so? So is that railway line normally under water?

Yes, it's one of those newfangled open-air tunnels.

  12. I don't understand what did this guy of Georgian origin do wrong? Did he steal? No! He did an honest job taking care of Russian group of tourists. I've seen many times how Thais try to deal with Russian tourists and they purely fail because of the language and culture barrier. In my opinion this is nonsense persecuting people for doing an honest job. Thai police should better focus on real problems, like real crime!

You twice used the word "honest" in your post but it seems you don't really understand the concept of honesty. The guy was working illegally, not honestly. I agree that there would appear to be more pressing matters but that does not justify this criminal activity.
