Police recently surrounded the house of an individual known as Jakkree Pannoi, or Big, but failed to locate him. His wife was detained and questioned to establish links to the Chaowalit Thongduang case. Jakkree’s wife denied any involvement. Meanwhile, Jirawut Chumsri, or Boy, an associate of Sia Paeng, agreed to surrender today. Jakkree is believed to be an accomplice of Chaowalit, also known as Sia Paeng. Chaowalit escaped from Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital, in southern Thailand, on October 22. Reporters revealed that following the discovery of a white Mitsubishi pickup truck, believed to be used by Jirawut to flee Maharaj Hospital, investigations intensified. The truck was abandoned in the town of Phatthalung, and the police suspected that another vehicle, driven by Jakkree, was waiting to pick up Jirawut from the location. Officers searched the nearby area, which was a mere 5 kilometres away from the home of Sia Paeng’s elder brother, but neither Jirawut nor Jakkree were found. Throughout the previous day and night, after the white Mitsubishi truck was discovered, the police speculated that it was Jirawut who had left the vehicle and fled in another car. They suspected this second car was driven by Jakkree or Big. The police searched the vicinity, which was close to where the vehicle was abandoned and only 5 kilometres away from Chaowalit’s brother’s house. However, neither Jirawut nor Jakkree were located. A Chinese woman went viral on the Chinese social media platform Weibo when she embarked on a journey of cycling 4,000 kilometres from China to Thailand to train with famous Muay Thai boxer Sombat “Buakaw” Banchamek. Muay Thai has captured the imagination of others outside of Thailand recently, as highlighted in the case of a teenager in the United States. The teenage American boy announced on his Instagram account, @reed_harringron23, that he would undertake a task suggested by one of his followers, once his follower count hit the magic 200,000 mark. The teenage boy successfully hit the target and the follower, who received the most likes for a suggested task, asked him to learn Muay Thai in Thailand, win a competition in the Land of Smiles and return to the US to compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Muay Thai idol Buakaw commented on the boy’s post and offered to take care of him during his training in Thailand. The boy is now raising funds for his tickets to Thailand. BANGKOK (NNT) - A top government official praises the Thai film "Sapparor", or "Undertaker" in English, for its authentic representation of local culture and promises support to bring Thai films to the global market. Srettha Thavisin, the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, revealed his thoughts on the movie "Sapparor" after viewing with Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Deputy Chairperson of the National Soft Power Strategy Committee, on the night of October 25th. He believes that "Sapparor" sheds light on a profession many are unfamiliar with, offering deeper insights into Thai culture. He further pledges support for talented directors to showcase both short and long films on the world stage. Regarding censorship and content checks, he considers these to be outdated practices that need modernization to allow more creative freedom. This is especially important for Thai short films, which often lack funding. Dialogue is needed, but the Committee on Soft Power has already taken notice of the issue of lack of resources. "Sapparor" tells a story that subtly incorporates elements of "soft power" through the lifestyle of Northeastern villagers. It portrays the funeral rituals and traditions, setting a new standard for the Thai film industry. Since its release on October 5th, 2023, it has earned a staggering 500 million Baht nationwide. The film continues to receive positive feedback and consistent ticket sales. Moreover, "Sapparor" has become the highest-grossing Thai film in the past eight years. The Finance Ministry’s Fiscal Policy Office has decided to reduce its Thai economic growth forecast for 2023, from 3.5% to 2.7%, due to the tourism slowdown and export contraction. Pornchai Thiraveja, director-general of office, said today (Friday) that the reduction is in line with the 2.7% growth projection by the International Monetary Fund and the 2.8% forecast from the Bank of Thailand. Thailand’s exports for the whole year are forecast to contract by 1.8%, instead of 0.8% as originally projected, while tourist arrivals by the end of the year are expected to be about 27.7 million, instead of 29.5 million. As a result, revenues from tourism are estimated to be around 1.18 trillion baht, instead of 1.25 trillion baht, mainly due to the fewer than expected arrivals from China. A large turtle attracted a crowd of villagers who believe it could be a harbinger of good fortune, after being found in the middle of the road. The spectacle took place today, at 174 House, Moo 9, in Nong Mek Village, Dan Chang Subdistrict, Bua Yai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, which is the home of 61 years old Sant Uthaida. Some villagers even smeared the turtle’s shell with flour, a traditional practice to reveal lottery numbers, before weighing the turtle, which was about 10 kilogrammes. The large turtle, found in the middle of the road, instilled a belief among the villagers that it would bring good luck. The length of the creature from head to tail was measured at 18 inches, and the shell was 17 inches wide. Consequently, villagers used these numbers to try their luck according to their individual beliefs. Some, after smearing the turtle’s shell with flour, claimed to see the distinctive numbers 71 and 65, reported KhaoSod.
