  1. Agreed….and when I popped back into Thailand for a few days in October to renew my 1 year extension I told immigration that I would be now spending time outside of Thailand and might not even be seeing them in the future as there is no real need for an extension based on retirement and it will be nice to close out my bank accounts in Thailand and bring all the money back to the US where I can actually get some interest on my funds (which are a lot more than the 800k)
  2. No job, wife or kids in Thailand. Currently with gf in Vietnam and will spend more time back in the US supporting the economy there. The only additional cost is a bit of rent (cheaper here in Vietnam) and everything else is money that I would be paying in Thailand so it’s basically a sunk cost. My beach holidays will now be abroad and not in Huahin, Krabi or Phuket so the hotels there also lose out. I’ll gladly play by Thailands rules and stay less than 180 days. Not only do they miss out on taxes but also 6 months of spending (doctors, meds, massages, taxis, restaurants, movies etc etc). If it ends up costing a bit more, I’m ok with that as I believe in the old saying “no taxation without representation”. Also, I can do my clothes shopping outside of Thailand, get my hair cut outside Thailand, dental care, etc etc etc. I’ll even bring lots of snacks back with me when I return. The people playing the “I’ll just wait and see” or the ones who say “they can chase me if they want the taxes” will possibly get stung by running afoul of the tax laws. They should be doing the same thing as those of us who are bailing out for 6 months. If more people voted with their feet and just left Thailand for 6 months maybe the government will reevaluate their decision to tax us because it’s not just the taxes that they won’t be getting, all of the people in Thailand who’s businesses we supported will be getting much less also. I’ve already let my doctors know that I am just fine seeing a doctor in Vietnam so they’re not happy with the situation either and they support my decision because they too think the taxes are unfair and intelligent enough to know that it is nothing more than a money grab by the government. It’s also worth it to not have to pay a Thai accountant and go through the headache of trips to the revenue department and all the additional forms, time and headache to deal with it.
  3. Don’t forget the overflowing hospitals.
  4. I’ve browsed a couple of the Japanese second hand shops in BKK. Ridiculously expensive for what’s on offer.
  5. Exactly. I don’t trust either side and can’t extract enough truth from the little information available so I don’t vote. One thing that I do agree upon is that people (mostly) aren’t honest. Both fundamentally and intellectually. My experience with leftists however, is that they want to dictate what I think, jab me with vaccines I don’t want/need, force their pronouns upon me etc etc so I can be certain to not join their team of degenerate mid-wits. They are the ones who will turn on you and stab you in the back. One is no longer allowed to be neutral and objective.
  6. You know I’m a political agnostic…..and I was having an adventure at that particular time back in the US where I had to literally escape the clutches of wokedom, sometimes in the middle of the night. Thankfully I escaped back to Thailand before the election….only to have to hastily depart for Da Nang where I’m wating out the 180 day Thai tax rule. You should come on over….boy do I have some stories to tell! Speaking of taxes (as the OP seems to be quite fond of them for others)…do you think he’ll pay them to Thailand for living here over the 180 day limit? I’m betting not….but surely, if he has 80k to spare feeding dogs, he must have enough to pay his fair share. Or will he choose the “rules for thee but not for me” that I find so prevalent in the mindset of the filthy leftists that I have known throughout life?
  7. Agreed, but I must say that I don’t see shades of Hitler in what he wrote….more like Pol Pot. I wonder who he would choose for his culling? Would he step up to be the first in line? Probably not, because he has “analyzed it and has the answer”. If only all of us other useless eaters would just fall in line. No sacrifices to be made on his part….well….except sell his luxury house and of course….no mention of donating the proceeds even though he already “has enough”. I noticed that he also seemed to point fingers only at the upcoming administration. Maybe if Trump appointed a more diverse and worthy group of henchmen like dear leader Kamala would have….because….joy! But ne’er ye worry. He has the answer and can pontificate and lord over the rest of us from his island paradise while stroking his army of loyal dogs.
  8. Never had a problem in Thailand at any time of day or night (other than a few soi dog encounters) I think the Thais are indifferent to our presence even though they can overreact to certain situations or cultural faux pas. It does seem to be that in all the articles of foreigners being “attacked”, just looking at the photos of the foreigners, they seem to give off a negative, aggressive vibe which can put the Thais on edge more so than someone just peacefully/lazily passing by. Maybe it’s the look in the foreigners eyes, their body language or general demeanor but Thais, from what I have experienced are very good at reading people.
  9. I have always been boggled by the Inca stone walls at Cusco, Peru where they are fit together so perfectly that it just defies imagination. https://thearchitectstake.com/short-takes/pictures-of-the-week-inca-stone-walls-of-cuzco-peru/
  10. It’s code for “don’t question the “safe and effective” vaccine narrative and if you didn’t want to get jabbed you are a menace to society. Any doctor who you can bring up who questioned mass vaccination (and mandates) no matter how heralded they were before the pandemic is now nothing but a quack….forever.
  11. Remember when they stopped publicizing the vax status of people who were being hospitalized/died? Now why would they do something like that? Remember when a thread like this would have been shut down post haste…but not anymore? Hmmm 🤔
  12. Nothing that I would post online in order to seek approval from strangers.
  13. Poor people won’t bow down, lick his feet and show him the adulation that he deserves.
  14. Ok Mr. 1% Keep on virtue signaling Matthew 6:1-4
  15. You want to dictate how much other people should be happy with. Many people in this world could only dream of having your lifestyle….or even half of it. And I’ll bet that they work harder than you ever did with no hopes of having enough money to jet around the world to retire in tropical countries. Your “financial security” is another persons “extravagance”. Check your privilege.
  16. There are billions of people who don’t have “enough”. Take Musks stock and sell it all to raise money for them. But sell it to who? Other billionaires? Oh….wait….you want their money too. But first they must divest their assets….to who? I’m sure there are billions of people who think you have too much. 700 million people live on less than $2 a day. Thai minimum wage is something they can only dream of. And Thais make more than billions of people. Should Thais only get $4 a day? how much do you deserve? I’d be willing to bet that you think you deserve more than them. it reminds me of a girl who worked as a concierge in a Los Angeles apartment I used to live in. Complete SJW (like yourself). She was paid $16/hour and would go on and on about how the parking valets deserved $15 a day instead of the $10 they were getting. They finally got it. Her wage stayed at $16. She was furious. She really didn’t care about the parking attendants but just thought that if they got a raise that she would get a commensurate raise too. You are playing the same economic arbitrage that everybody else on this forum is playing. Somehow I doubt you’re living on ฿15,000 a month. But it sure feels good to virtue signal, doesn’t it?
  17. It seems as if every time a health insurance cost thread is started it becomes nothing more than an apples to oranges comparison in prices because only one variable (or none) is presented by whoever is stating their own personal policy cost. To better ascertain what people are paying and why, the following information is vital otherwise the answers and advice will be completely useless. 1. Age of insured 2. Policy limits 3. Deductible amount. (One persons “high deductible” is another persons “low deductible) 4. Prior claims history (multiple claims can cause premiums to increase) 5. Smoker? Drinker? Exclusions for previously existing conditions? 6. What countries will the insurance cover you and to what amount. Many companies won’t cover much (if any) in the US for example. Best to call a broker and just get quotes based upon the policy that you want for your personal situation. What other people claim to pay is of little relevance to what you might pay. No idea if there are “foreign prices” and “Thai prices”
  18. Some are on 7 figure salaries. I wouldn’t donate to them either. https://www.charitywatch.org/nonprofit-compensation-packages-of-1-million-or-more There are many charities that seem have failing grades due to the fact that the bulk of the donations goes to “overhead” https://blog.charitywatch.org/rip-f-rated-charities/
  19. 1. Needs lower price as it’s priced comparably (now) to dealer vehicles. Dealers can and will sit on a car forever. I’d price it between what a dealer is asking and what they would offer you. 2. Needs more information. Is it a 2022 or 2023? Options? 3. Needs correct information in the Advertisement. Wrong mileage. 4. Needs better/more pictures. Unable to ascertain condition. https://www.one2car.com/en/for-sale/honda-hr-v-e-hev-rs-bangkok-metropolitan-thapra-wongwian-yai-rama-ii/15908333 1,xxx KM asking 839k
  20. I apologize in advance for not having a link, but in the western (US) news articles (aggregated on sites such as yahoo) that talk about our (westerners) “needs” to start eating protein from bugs (usually in an article talking about some new business raising crickets), Thailand is actually held up as the example and sometimes there is a photo from some night market of the lone seller of bugs with the insinuation being that Thailand is already eating bugs as a source of protein.
  21. If you want to mask up when going out, that is up to you. Not my problem. If you choose to take the BTS instead of a taxi (I rarely ever see unmasked taxi drivers) or driving yourself, that is also up to you and the risk that you bear by doing so is 100% your responsibility. Nobody else is responsible for “protecting the health of others around them” but it sounds as if you could make the rules, you would have everybody mask up 100% of the time if only to protect you. If you are in a high risk group, it is up to you to determine what amount of risk you are willing to take and if that amount of risk is 0% and you expect people to also mask up in order to protect every old and frail person then perhaps you should “stay home and stay safe”. Having a picture of a masked dog as your profile picture is quite pathetic however.

  23. Do those gdp figures include bombs and guns? imagine how awesome the economy would be if Nazi Trump builds internment camps for all the leftists who talk about internment camps. Winning!
  24. Obama would fall way further down the list….probably at the bottom if people mathematically understood the debt that he roped them into in both housing (all the mortgage workout scams) and higher education. ”People have to be able to afford their loans” he said. All he did was knowingly put people into the noose of unsustainable debt and then, when they were suffocating….he loosened it just enough in order to ensure that they would forever be a slave. Why not look at the cost of education rather than the cost of a loan? Because then he couldn’t ensnare the sheeple with a debt millstone. His housing workouts were especially egregious in states such as California where a person could have initially walked away from the toxic neg-am loan with no repercussions as a purchase money mortgage is non-recourse. This means you can walk away and not owe anything. As soon as the person was given any mortgage workout (usually done with a massive balloon payment tacked onto the end of the original 30 year mortgage which would require another 30 year mortgage to pay off (hello….generational debt slavery!), the loan would become full-recourse meaning that you could never walk away from the debt. Educational debt had the involvement of both political parties (don’t just point the fingers at the democrats oh ye conservatives) where students were slowly squeezed more and more until educational debt could not be expunged via bankruptcy. Unfortunately, most students were too I’ll prepared in high school to even understand the ramifications of signing on that dotted line. https://www.therollinsfirm.com/a-little-history-about-the-student-loan-bankruptcy-ban/ But it was Obama who pushed people into housing at the peak of the bubble and then subsequently into student debt. Biggest conman ever in my opinion. But people, even to this day, don’t understand what happened nor how it happened. Debt is the new slavery….and serfdom is back to stay. Let’s party like it’s 1399* *credit Housingpanic the housing bubble blog with an attitude problem
